2 Stars: What's the big deal? (by Midcoast A.)

I appreciate old-timer's accounts of the good 'ol days, I really do, but what is the big deal about the Fat Boy drive-in restaurant in Brunswick Maine?

When I was little, I remember going to drive-in theatres with my parents. Muppet Movie and Cannon Ball Run double-feature, chillin' in the backseat with my footie pajamas and a pillow. Awesome. I also remember hitting Fat Boy's with Grandma and Grandpa, getting a burger and fries with the chocolate Frappe.. mmmm. I REMEMBER these times with fondness. The time spent with the adults I loved at these places. It doesn't mean that the food or the service is great.

I took my Mother to the Fat Boy drive-in restaurant recently. The waitress was nice in a "I'm smiling at you because it's my job" sort of way, and she brought our food right out. I got the cold cheeseburger and cold fries with a warm soda. My mother got the lobster roll and cold onion rings, with 3 hour-old coffee. The burger was the same kind of frozen meat-patty that you would get at any other fast-food place, and the whole thing was flat as a pancake. My Mom's lobster roll was.. not as good as I remember it. In Maine, it really is a bad thing if your lobster roll is worse than McDonald's lobster roll.

The price of the food was definitely not nostalgic. Apparently we were paying for the convenience of eating in our car and staring at all the other suckers sitting in their cars.

5 Stars: GREAT! (by Jeffrey M.)

This is really like the old time drive-in restaurants - like Happy Days! LOL - we used to go there whenever we were in the area for supper - with 3 small children it was always fun - really! The seafood is excellent , as well as the other food but I LOVE the onion rings. The food is really home made. You can eat inside, which we prefer with the kids as they love the juke box, etc. but can also eat outside with the wait staff bringing you your food right to the car. It's fun in the summer with their 50's style hop which is an annual thing. A++

5 Stars: A great people for everyone (by rebecca c.)

Fat Boy Drive In is a place for everyone. Where you can get simple foods at great prices. The service is excellent, the people always friendly. Many of the employees return season after season so you see familiar faces. Great selection from Hot dogs to sea food. Don't miss the end of the season old car sock hop. You might even catch a server headed to your car on roller skates.

5 Stars: Remember the Good Old Days when there weren't fast food restaurants (by Pamela W.)

but you could get a good, hot meal at a drive-in restaurant? And at prices you can afford? Well, in Brunswick you still can! Fat Boy Drive In is a family owned business with food that always taste good. Their onion rings are even hand cut each day by the owner! How often do you see that anymore? The husband and wife team are there almost everyday and work right along with their employees to see their patrons are well taken care of. Whether you want to stay in your car, eat inside, or order take out, you can be assured your food will be hot and delicious and your server will be friendly.

PROS: Not another chain, taste-the-same, greasy, fast food restaurant
CONS: Not enough indoor seating

5 Stars: Great Food @ Great Prices! (by Jamie G.)

I've been eating at the Fat Boy Drive-In Restaurant as long as I can remember. The food there is great and so is the service. All of the gals that fill the role of 'car hop' there are just spectacular. Fat Boy serves burgers, hot dogs, seafood and more! You can eat right in the car or go into the dining room which is equipped with a jukebox!

Each summer Fat Boy hosts the "Fat Boy Reunion Sock Hop" right in it's own parking lot. It is a 50's themed night complete with old cars, gals in poodle skirts and even food prices from the 50's! It's a great time for anyone over the age of 21! BYOB!

Don't forget to try their old fashioned Frappes!

PROS: Great food, great prices, great staff!
CONS: Busy--but worth waiting for or calling your order in ahead of time!

5 Stars: Old Fashioned Drive-In (by Paulla E.)

Fat Boys is the type of old fashioned drive in from a 1950s movie set. The staff is friendly and efficient and the decor is retro and fun. But the food is what keeps bringing people back. Fat Boys offers burgers, hot dogs, seafood, sandwiches, and delectable onion rings, french fries and cole slaw. This restaurant is a delight to visit.

PROS: Fun, great food, friendly staff, retro look
CONS: none
