I have always been a big fan of Happy Hollow and with the remodel excited to bring a couple of my students for the day. We were pleasantly surprised with the rides, the animals, the food and the care that went into the design of the park. A must for any preschooler or young grammer schooler.

Pros: location-fun filled days ahead

Cons: Parking Fee!

Most of the people who seem to like this place bring up how they grew up going to this place. In other words it was really great when you were 7, but you were 7 about 30 years ago. The truth is 5+ years ago this was a horrible excuse for a zoo. small dirty enclosures for the few actual "exotic" animals they had and less than stellar facilities. SJ citizens were dumb enough to pass a bond in 2000 that dropped $50 million dollars to this park as well as others and then after being closed for 2 years the park reopened after an 'alleged" $70 million green facelift. Now, the park is a $100 million crap hole. The City should sue the company that did the renovation and replace every single solitary person involved in the renovation plan. Parking $10 and the line was ridiculous, 40 minutes. $12 to get into and for what, the same tired exhibits and a petting zoo where you can't and probably would never want to pet anything that is there. How this place got accreditted as an actual zoo is proof that bribes can happen anyplace. The employees are pathetically uninterested in customer service and you simply walk around wondering where in the hell did they spend the money? Nice new entry plaze, new gift shop, hey the restaurant is new. But those pathetic animals, Wow a new playground. I can take the kids to a nicer one for free. San Jose Citizens, to support this place is an absolute crime and sin against every moral fiber you may possess

This zoo is nothing compared to the san francisco zoo. They do have some rare animals but my 4 year old didn't really enjoyed. He was looking forward to see some elephants and giraffes. He enjoyed the rides though.

This zoo has a very small selection of birds, monkeys, and other small animals. They have some very nice playground and picnic areas, as well as a small fast food store. I would recommend bringing your own snack and lunch for your children because the price for food here is quite high. Also, don't expect to see large animals here like elephants, lions, giraffes, etc., because you won't find them here. My children were actually a little disappointed because they couldn't see those types of large animals here. One plus point, though, is the fact that they have discount ticket days(I believe the second Tues. of the month where admission is only $1 or $2). Call in advance or check out the website because I am not positive about exactly which days the discount is in effect.

We went to Happy Hollow with some friends and their kids. I think the magic of this place is done when your child hits 5-6. THe younger kids loved it- the animals and the rides. Our older two were bored out of their minds.

I love Happy Hollow. It is just the right size for little kids. The zoo is not that big but they make up for it with the rides on the otherside. Always a fun time.

Happy Hallow is a great place to take your preschool children. It is small enough that you can go on every ride and see all the animals. The House of Mirrors is my favorite. I recommend getting a season pass. Don't forget the puppet show. This is a San Jose landmark.Dia

The kids always have fun and love the zoo. It's a great place to go early have some fun and tire the kids out for the afternoon.

The petting zoo is fun as well. All the animals in there seem to love all the attention.

My young kids and I always have a good time when we go to Happy Hollow. We have bought a season pass so we can enjoy the zoo and rides. The fun low tech rides spark the kids' imagination. The zoo's animals are well taken care of, and a hit with the kids.

PROS: wholesome fun

What a great place for young kids! You can easily walk or stroller through the zoo portion and the displays and animals are very easy to see for young kids. Adventurous kids can feed the goats, donkeys or llamas.

The rides are nice for kids 5 and under and the puppet shows are always fun. The snack shack can get a bit crowded, especially on weekends, so a good strategy is to get food a bit earlier or send one parent to buy food during the puppet show.

My daughter loves to go here. She was really scared of rides till she started going to Happy Hallow. The rides are really very kid friendly and non-threatening. The hall of mirrors and the train ride are all time favorites for my kid.
The animals are a nice addition.

My daughter and I used to frequent this place. Worked out well with a year's pass that we purchased. We would go visit all the animals - this place has a nice petting zoo. Then we would go enjoy some of the rides in the park. My daughter used to love this. Kids between 3 and 5 years of age would love this place. The toy train is fun.. The ride with fire-engines and stuff is fun too. The parking is expensive, so we usually park on the street outside and walk to the park. Recommended

A good family place located in the heart of San Jose. The zoo is on the small side but is accredited by the AZA. The best feature would have to be the family farm area where children can go in and feed the animals and pet them too! The attched park is porbably a larger attraction with several rides and games at no additional charge.

PROS: Family fun, good price, good location
CONS: Small size zoo

By the fact there are always tons of kids here, its a great park and zoo to bring the kids to. No big "wow" exhitbits, but many smaller ones and spread out enough to make it seem bigger. One of the main attractions is in the middle of the zoo, a big park with rides and food during the spring-summer seasons. Theres a play pirate ship too, fun for the kids to run around on. Cheap to get in around $5, have to pay to park though, a few on street parking available. Many people dont know about this zoo so spread the word! Hidden out there in east San Jose

Happy Hollow is a great place to take the 6 and under crowd for a few hours of fun and games. The zoo portion is rather small, but the variety of animals always makes it interesting for the kids. My only beef about the zoo is that is is arranged in a circular manner w/lots of obstructions in between. Losing your child hasn't been easier!! The park portion has rides appropriate for the little ones and a puppet show that my children never tire of. There's also a Japanese garden outside the zoo that is worth a peak. My kids love to feed the giant koi there.

Definitely worth the small entrance fee. For the kiddies, you can take them to the Zoo and then to the park and for the adults you can go to the zoo and then walk a block over to the nearby (beautiful) Japanese Friendship Garden. Dont consider this a real zoo with elephants and lots of animals, but for its size it can definitely house a lot of interesting animals. The biggest attraction is the jaguar for the older kids but for you the younger ones it is definitely the petting zoo. A great great place to spend an afternoon at.

Happy Hollows Park and Zoo is one of the places that my kids like to go to. They have rides available like the King Neptunes carousel which instead of horses the kids ride on fishes, seahorses and other sea creatures. They also have a small maze that my kids love to get lost in.

I love Happy Hollow! I used to go there when I was a kid, and now I take my two children there. They only have a few animals, but the best part of the "zoo" is the petting zoo. Kids can buy a handful of animal food for .25, and they can even go inside where all the goats roam around (warning: they may try to eat your clothes/bags!). They also have a really nice park with several small rides (including the original Danny the Dragon!) They even have a puppet show that the kids really enjoy. You can either pack a lunch and eat it on the large, lawn area or buy food inside the park (decent prices, too) Really nice place to visit, especially if you have young children. Check their website as they usually have a day a month (or maybe every two months) where their admission is really cheap.

PROS: Lots of family fun without big amusement park/zoo feel
CONS: Not a lot of animals

My 3-year-old son loves going to Happy Hollow. They have a small zoo (including a petting zoo with a handful of goats) a "park" area with carnival-style toddler rides, and a playground. Admission is about $6, I believe, and they offer 50% off for SF Zoo members. Parking is also about $6, depending on the day. One word of advice -- I've heard that "Toddler Tuesdays" ($1 admission the second Tuesday of each month) are absolutely insane. Otherwise, most of the time, you have the park mostly to yourself.

Happy Hollow has been around forever. The park is definitely one of those "low tech" type places to bring your kids for a picnic lunch or just to get some energy out. There's quite a few play structures (ship, slide house, playgrounds, maze, etc.) and some grassy areas. Also there are a few low key rides for the younger ages. Plan at least for a couple hours to enjoy it fully and dont forget to check out the petting zoo.

I used to go here as a kid, and always enjoyed seeing the animal in the petting zoo, without having it be as overwhelming for a small child as a large amusement park like Great America.
The greenery and variety of animals make it a good place for families to spend the day together exploring nature and feeding the goats.

This is a small zoo, but a great one for your child's first time. They have different sections with the different animals and even a large petting area with feeding food you can buy and feed to the animals. There are different water animals and even a small little pond area where the kids can kick of their shoes and get a little wet. The cost is small to get in and you can even rent their strollers for a very small cost. I believe you have to leave an id as collateral. We only visited the zoo section, so we didn't get to experience any of the food areas. But the bathrooms were clean and easy to find.

PROS: admission fee, plenty to see and look at
CONS: some of the areas were not working.

It's a fun place for the kids, although it's in desperate need for a remodel. Many of the rides look very old and worn. Having said that, kids love it, tons to do once you're inside the park gates. I recommend taking a picnic (the only food offered is a limited fast food menu). The zoo area is cute (although I do feel bad for the animals, the paddocks, etc. don't look the cleanest. The petting area is always fun and you can purchase treats for the animals. They also offer sleepovers for older kids.

Happy Hollow Park and Zoo is a nice park to bring toddlers and small kids. It is not a big park, but there is a lot of fun things to do for this age group. There are a few rides, many playgrounds, a puppet theater and zoo. In the late spring it can get very crowded with many schools visiting. The employees are very friendly and helpful. There is plenty of parking and they charge a parking fee. Children younger than 2 years are free. If you go more often you might consider to sign up for membership which gives you free admission to Happy Hollow and other zoos.
