I think the review posted on 1/13/09 is not real! But that is just my opinion. I have spent over $50,000 at the EA Galleria area and completely agree with customer who says that customer service is a nightmare. Nothing gets fixed, nobody cares about you. Once you bought the furniture and payed the money it is hard to get their attention. I have been waiting for about two months now for somebody to come and fix the crooked cushions on the sofa that cost me over $7,000. And the chairs, I have been waiting for 5 months now and been told to wait for another 3 months. And the story goes on and on and on... Horrible customer service!

We spent almost $6000 on 3 pieces of upholstered furniture. First of all, it took over 4 months to get the furniture. We were told that the fabric may have been discontinued on one of the 3 items and that we would not get a refund but would just have to pick another fabric. Luckily, after 4months, they were able to find the fabric and make the last chair. Also, the staff at the Houston Galleria location knew very little about the details of the furniture protection plan which they strongly recommended. The furniture protection company said that only the store itself (i.e., Ethan Allen) would know the details of which protection plan they were offering. After a week of multiple phone calls and hours on the phone, and being told by the EA people to "just read the contract", I was finally directed to someone who could answer my questions. The attitude by the EA staff has been "I don't understand why that is an issue for you", trivializing my concerns. The delivery service is a whole other nightmare. They don't call to give you a 30 minute window like they promise and so you end up waiting all morning only to be told that they are running late and will not make it during the time that they promised. When you call the EA store about this, they just say, "Traffic can be bad, you know."
AS for the design help, they basically agree with everything you say. They first suggestion they made for patterns was totally NOT my taste, so I had to show her pictures from the catalog of the exact furniture I wanted and then ask them for the fabric. I could buy furniture like this at Pottery Barn or Target for a fraction of the price.
The furniture is pretty DESPITE what we had to got through to get it. Beware of what you are getting yourself into. EA thinks it is a high end furniture store, but they don't treat you like a high end customer.

I purchased a cabinet from Ethan Allen over 5 years ago, and it had an imperfection on the top of the cabinet. I didn't say anything at the time but over the years it bothered me more and more. I called Ethan Allen on the outside chance they might be able to smooth it out. The furniture repairman came out to evaluate and I thought I'd never hear back. I just got a call from customer service today, and they are going to replace the entire cabinet, "as a courtesy". That's what I call customer service!

Ethan allen offers great wood furniture in a variety of prices and styles. This furniture store downtown is gorgeous. The people were friendly and helpful.

PROS: Beautiful place to shop
CONS: Wish they had a kids area
