I have been taking my pets to City Vet for years and have never received anything but the best of care. Dr. Effie is always kind and takes time to explain what is wrong. The front desk staff is very friendly and courteous. I would never go to another vet!

I have been going to City Vet for approximately 4 years now. I have never had a bad experience with them. Yes they are expensive, but you get what you pay for. Dr. Dennis is the primary vet who see's my pets and I can't praise her enough. Thank you guys for being great.

I've been going to City Vet on Oak Lawn for about one year.I have spent approx.$1000.00 there in the last 6 -12 months. When I found a stray pit puppy with mange, ear mites, starvation and couldn't find a place to place him I called there. An employee told me she would check with a rescue I'd already talked to and call me back. When told that I couldn't keep him-my landlord, out of work, two rescue dogs already-I was told nobody should put him down more humanely or not-yet I received no call back and no other suggestions. One of the rescues told me not to have the dog put down anywhere but private vet as SPCA etc. might use gas.I am very attached to the dog after a week and didn't need to be made to feel worse. I'll never go back.

I cannot sing the praises of City Vet enough!

I took my dog Buster in for fast-kill heartworm treatment, and although I was extremely nervous about the whole process, Dr. Hill and the staff completely put my mind at ease. I was updated daily, sometimes twice a day while he was going through his treatment. I wholeheartedly trusted City Vet with Buster's care, and they came through 100%. Kind, sincere, caring, and compassionate.

I recommend this clinic to anyone looking for these qualities, and who expects the best when it comes to caring for their companion.

I have finally found a vet I trust. Dr. Effie Gianopolous is incredible. She's so knowledgeable, compassionate and always takes the time to explain things to me, which I find very important.
She has been able to diagnose and successfully treat problems that I thought were chronic and wouldn't go away. I work with a cat rescue group, so I have taken many cats there. I also take my own dogs there. I wouldn't go anywhere else now. Most of my experience is with Dr. Effie, but have also really liked the other vets I've been to at CitiVet.
The place gets very busy at times, but the staff is always welcoming and helpful and nice to both me and the animals.
The bottom line is that I'm pretty skeptical about vets, and I've been to some I'd never go back to. But I have complete trust in Dr. Effie. She is really good at what she does. And, that's hard to find in my experience.

Our dog has the distinction of being one of Dr Cannon's first patients, but things have sure changed over the last few years. While we still find him an honest caring vet I can not say much for the practice in general any more. They routinely use high pressure sales tactics to bump up the bill, they just add things to the bill without asking. Our routine teeth cleaning today, even with the "February Discount" was over $600 for two dogs. That's over twice as much as our own with xrays, gas, and all. Our yearly checkup in Dec had so many add-ons that I don't remember being asked or even told about. For yearly shots and check-up one of our dogs bills was $496. Across the street you could be checked in or out in 5 mins. Try 25-30 mins. now. Don't even ask about our problems next door in boarding. Ever wonder why their online cameras were not working for almost a year. They mysteriously stopped after we used them daily to check and consequently throw a fit over our dogs care while on vacation. To be fair Dr. Cannon himself called us to apologize and adjust our bill, but in that instance money was not the issue, it was prearrainged (4 months in advance)special care for our handicapped dog was not being done. City Vet just seems to have become a practice for unquestioning wealthy clients. In this failed economy that's not me. I'd love to know if their vets and nurses work on commission.

I have 3 house rabbits, and also had a beloved squirrel for almost 8 years. Dr. Effie Gianopolous has been and is their vet. I cannot imagine ever letting anyone else touch my rabbits. She is knowledgeable, compassionate, extremely giving of her time. Many vets say they 'see' rabbits, but the difference between that and a vet that is truly 'rabbit savvy' is the difference between life and death. Dr. Effie is constantly learning and is always open to hearing things that I have learned about house rabbits. Most of the staff know and call me by name. While it is true that one may often be put on hold when calling (they have a very large practice) I find them all very willing to assist me any time I need help. It takes an hour for me to get there, which is a huge hassle, but I simply cannot imagine any vet other than Dr. Effie treating my precious buns. She really, really cares about them.

First, Dr. Hill has been a great doctor for my pet. I am very pleased with her. Now, I wish I was as pleased with the admin staff. Not pleased at all. They seem to be leaderless or unmotivated every time I come in. Now, don't get me wrong, I think they are caring and competent but just not trained and versed on how to care for arriving patients and for efficiently getting patients through their system. I think with the right office manager or with the right training for the current office manager they could actually improve throughput and customer service at the Oaklawn location.

I recently adopted a bengal/siamese mix kitten from Texas Exotic Cat rescue. I took him to see Dr. Dennis at City Vet. SnowFoot was a big hit at CityVet. Unfortunately, he had a very bad case of ringworm, which I learned is actually a fungal infection, not a worm. I've had pets for many years and never knew that.

The vet and assistants at CityVet were very informative and helped me throughout SnowFoot's month-long quarrantine (from my other cat), even taking him in for one weekend when we had to go out of town. I was afraid to leave my brother-in-law in charge of kitty medication. Not to fear-- CityVet offers cat-boarding in the main facility, and even offers the "quarantine" boarding for sick animals. I was told that EVERYONE loved my little baby and spent time playing with him while were were away on the weekend! Now that's dedication. Of course, he is a gorgeous baby!

I highly recommend Dr Dennis at CityVet, and I have always had a great experience with the front desk staff and animal assistants. Great job, guys!

We took out dog there on a Saturday afternoon. She had an infection in her anal glands. The staff and doctors were all incredibly nice and helpful. It was expensive, but it is an after hours clinic and for emergencies! It would be like you going to the ER. I would recommend it for an after hours clinic to all pet owners.

I have just started using City Vet, and I can't understand where some of the negative comments are coming from.

My experience has quite positive. I am in dog rescue, and brought in a feral animal who was terrified. The female techs have been so caring and attentive. They've even worked with him after hours, on their own time. Now he's coming around and warming up to humans. It is a wonderful transformation.

As to price, they seem to me comparable to other big-city veterinarians. The sad fact is, medical care has risen for all of us - including our pets.

City Vet has a wonderful way with animals, and the staff, even though young, are obviously very dog-savvy. I would recommend them highly, if you live anywhere near them.

city vet for hiring the mentally disabled.they have a nice young lady with glasses up front who is a joy to meet but she will talk your ear off. The other girls there are so sweet, and I haven't had problems with prices. I'm a customer for life.

I've used City Vet for both veterinary services and boarding for our dogs for several years. The care has been consistently caring, intelligent and thorough. When a pet is ill, options for treatment are presented in a non-pressure manner, allowing plenty of time for questions. I have never felt rushed in speaking with a vet. Drs. Tate and Murphy (both at McKinney Ave. location) are fantastic. They know our pets by name, and remember history/issues with ease - amazing considering how many animals they work with each day. They performed life-saving surgery on our bullmastiff on one occasion, and stayed in touch with me post-surgery via phone on a frequent basis to update me on her status in ICU.
In reading the reviews below (particularly the negative ones), I can say that the reception desk is very busy during 'rush hours' - the same times at which the highways are busy with work transit traffic. Most people drop off and pick up their animals in early morning and late afternoon. Any reasonable person would plan for this and not expect 5-minute service or perfection at the front desk during those times. When it comes to unexpectedly long wait times for a scheduled vet appointment, please consider that these waits are often related to an emergency case - much like when my dog required emergency surgery to save her life. Crazy things happen in the lives of dogs, cats, and the people who try their best to be good 'parents'. Accidents happen - from car wrecks to poisonings - and the good folks at City Vet WILL put that emergency in front of your (or my) regular check up appointment for Spot or Kitty. The next time you have to wait to see a doc for a scheduled appointment, please remember that when YOUR pet has an emergency, they will receive priority care and others will wait in that lobby. Just as you would expect in a hospital for persons, trauma will be treated before a cold.
We have never experienced the 'over medication' described in a post on this forum. Contrastingly, our pets have benefitted from the meds prescribed by City Vet doctors, and the vitamins in particular have been wonderful in improving our dogs' joint mobility and coats/combatting allergies.
We will continue to use City Vet and feel blessed for the consistently good (over 5 years) care they have provided our pets.

I take my dog to uptown and have boarded my dog at oaklawn. I love both locations! They really work hard and kept my pets health in mind during exams. You can tell everyone at uptown loves animals. It upsets me that a couple of the comments bellow are negative. For the woman who is upset about being told her dog has bad teeth, well most dogs do. Informing you about your dogs bad teeth is the doctor??s job. Bad teeth can lead to other problems. You should be happy you know so maybe you can fix it. For the silly excuse of not using heartworm preventative because of a possible ??risk? is a sorry excuse. Heartguard is approved by the FDA! Do you know what that means!? Now because of that ??risk? you were worried about, it??s going to cost you a lot of $ to pay for treatment to save your dogs life. Good thing City Vet is actually lower in terms of prices. I have taken my dog other places and they were all much higher in cost. I guess they aren??t ??in it for the money?. That comment was dumb too (they are in it for the $)?vets aren??t in school for 8 years because they love $ more than animals. I bet they have days when they see sad situations that you or I cant even imagine. These doctors are sincere when I bring my dog in. When my dog was sick, the dr. did all he could to figure out what it was. They had to do some blood test and x-rays, but I didn??t care?.i love my dog and it proved to me they did too when they figured out what was wrong. I will be a client for as long as I have a pet.

my dog shattered my front window and cut his leg open while i was at work and when i got home around 6 PM all vets and animal hospitals were closed. his foot was still bleeding and i could tell he needed stitches so e-clinic was really my only option. in total the stitches, evaluation, and drugs cost $480 (down from $564, the initial quote). this is pretty expensive but i really had no choice. about an hour later they had my little buddy all stitched up and bandaged and he recovered nicely.

normally, i would say that the costs for the vet visit were excessive but for what i paid for during off-hours i have no regrets and would do it again. the staff was very accomodating and the clinic was well kept. would recommend if urgent care is needed for your pet.

My dog went into shock and I took him to the E Clinic on Fitshugh Street. I could not have asked for a better place to have cared for him, especially Dr. Cox, who was the vet that night, and Greg, the technician-amazing is an understatement for them. The place is rather expensive; however, they explained everything to me in detail and only charged for the services needed. And this is an er clinic- of course it will be pricey! My dog, after being on the verge of death, fully recovered in a only a few days. The E Clinic is extremeIy clean and there is always a vet on the premise. I went to visit my dog several times each day he was there, and every time everyone was very friendly and the vet was always available to speak with me. I highly recommend this clinic for any emergency one may have with their animal.

I have taken my three cats to this clinic since they were kittens. The customer/pet care is excellent. Pick-up times are always exact. Friendly, helpful, genuine employees. The facility has a modern, clean feel, yet is inviting. I highly recommend it. They also sell pet food and products.
