It had been over a year since my mom and I had gone to the DAV, so we decided to stop in today to see if it had improved. The prices are still ridiculously high ($8.00 for a stained up old lamp shade), I saw one "worker" lounging against the bookshelves staring at the customers, and the cashier in the boutique was too busy chatting with her friends to help my mom when she asked to see an item behind the counter (they were also discussing things that were inappropriate and disgusting.)

i have been in this store. thinking of going today to look around. I can not belaeve that they get this stuff for free and charge the prices they do. No one there is friendly at all, and they act as if they dont care. Every know and then you can find a deal but its not offten. I think its a joke that they act like the money goes to vets. When in all honesty only about 20 percent goes to vets.. THATS A SHAME..

While the "boutique" is very messy, I'm not usually daunted by that. My concern is the VERY uncooperative management and sales staff. Many, Many, Many of the items are not priced. When I asked the clerk for a price she said "those items belong to the manager and he's not here now." I asked if he could be contacted by cell phone and she said, "when he goes home he doesn't want to be bothered with things at the store, so the secretary told me to not even try." I live 60 miles from the store so a sale was lost. The last time I tried to visit the boutique on a day/time they were scheduled to be open there was a paper sign on the door just saying "closed today". I don't understand the relationship between the boutique and general store as all that separates them is a passway door and they seem to work from the same administrative office, couldn't they just have a salesperson float? If the prices were reasonable I could see going back, but I'm mostly disappointed for the veterns who lose out on the funds which could be generated with better management and a more courteous sales staff.

Wow, this place is unbelievable. This place has CHANGED DRASTICALLY! First, it's way OVERPRICED! A sofa there was selling for $800.00! The sofa was also damaged. This was located in the "thrift" section of the store. Plus the store is not customer friendly anymore. They have secret shoppers who follow you around the entire time you browse the store, pretending to browse the same section as you. So uncomfortable to be watched and followed. It's the employees there who get the good stuff that should be watched...not the consumers who contribute! Now, they even have a figurine on the counter for "bad customers". Enough! I'll make a donation to the DAV, but I will not contribute to the store's proceeds for their ridiculous overhead.

And in response to the anonymous post below: I'm sure I wouldn't believe some of the things people bring in...but, that's because I don't work there...and couldn't know.

I drove aimlessly up Timberlake Road yesterday in an attempt to find something for my grandmother to do after her senior bowling day. She had no idea I was doing this, but the later I keep her out during the day the happier she seems to be in the evening. So we turned right out of Fort Hill Bowling Center as I hoped I would not have to resort to the mall...

The products in this store are way overpriced. I went there today and saw used books for $4, a cracked plate for $10, and a table and chairs for $800! Granted, the table and chairs were very nice but you could buy them brand new for that price...they were selling each chair for $40!

I absolutely LOVE the DAV. I have never been in any store where everything was perfect. Some employees are lazy and some work very hard in any store or wherever you shop. All stores are sometimes messy (especially BUSY ones) and not everyone is on the same page!! I found my experince to be GREAT! The employees were there to work and I loved rummiging through there stuff. I always leave there with something regardless if it is used or new and just simply like to browse. I have been donating to the DAV for years and if you donate nice things they get sold quickly but if you donate damaged items or pure junk it will get thrown away or or sent off. I am shocked at the junk that some peope donate, do not waste the DAV's time--take it to the dump yourself!!! You can not find prices cheaper than the DAV and If you don't like their ethics than don't shop there.

I have been in here a couple times to give it a fair chance. ALWAYS messy and I found the items to be wayyyy overpriced for a used, donated item. I will NOT donate items there.

I have donated to the Lynchburg DAV and have actually seen the items be thrown directly into the dumpster. Some of the workers are too lazy to make room in the store and would rather throw good things away. If you walk through the building, the same things are in there that were there 2 months ago. Instead of throwing the items away, they could put a "FREE ITEMS" sign of the boxes. If you donate anything the workers want, they take it home (free) and either use it or sell it so they can keep the money. This store is a joke! someone needs to come in and take over so the donations do go to VETS

I also found the store to be unethical. I donated to the Fredericksburg VA store (which is now closed). I donated a TV, and computer and household items. I went back near closing and saw an old woman employee and driver loading items (including part of my doantion) in their cars. I donated to help the veterans not a shady old lady and crooked driver.

They are not an ethical DAV. They are way overpriced, and half the stuff they keep for themselves to sell outside the store to line their own pockets.

I always walked away with something from this thrift shop - be it a book, pair of jeans/shirt, and even some great shoes. I got my box spring and full size mattress frame here, and they have a nice selection of furniture, as well.
