We love the zoo. We have a membership for our household and we use it often. You can go all seasons. The weekend gets super busy...especially on warmer days. The only con is kids whose parents don't supervise them close enough and they end up running into you and causing mischief. Pack a lunch and you'll have a blast.

If you are not a fan of zoos, I won't tell you that the MN Zoo will change your mind. It's still animals in enclosed spaces, trying to look a little like their natural habitat. Plus an IMAX theater. However, if you do enjoy the zoo experience, I would recommend the MN Zoo. Even in the cold, we were able to make a toddler-sized day out of the indoor exhibits. They cover all the bases, including a dolphin show (currently not running as one of the dolphins is about to give birth), special events (Farm Babies started at the end of March 2009), exotic animals, the elevated train, farm animals (where you can learn how a cow is milked, etc), native MN animals, turtles, monkeys, snakes, nocturnal animals, a butterfly area in the summer, and you can plan to have your kid's birthday party there. Of course, there's a variety of standards in the food court. (But if you plan right, you can bring your snacks in with you in your diaper bag.)Every area is well kept and the animals look like they are well cared for. I think it'll be family favorite for quite a few years to come.

Most people think of going to the Zoo in summer, but this Zoo is just as visitable in summer as it is in winter. Most of the exhibits are indoors. If you are adventurous, you can still venture outdoors in Winter.

Children love to go to the Minnesota Zoo to see all of the animals. It is a long distance from where I live, so I do not go there often. I do enjoy going down the different trails to see the different animals; such as the northern trail, the Minnesota trail and others. You get to see birds, turtles, monkeys, wolves, and so many more animals. It is best that you bring your own lunch, because the vendors charge a lot of money for their food. It is nice that you can rest while walking the trails. I believe that children still get in free on Tuesdays. The price of admission is not too high considering what you get to see. If you have never been to the Minnesota Zoo yet, I would highly recommend it to you. Enjoy the adventure.

I remember going on field trips to the Minnesota Zoo and waiting nearly all year with great anticipation. There are varieties of animals from nearly every continent, including lions, tigers, and bears (oh my!). Plus, attendees will have a special offer to see one of the world-class Imax films on their special Imax screen. Just don't sit in the front row!

PROS: Imax, fine specimens
CONS: price (sometimes)

What a terrific zoo to visit on a dreary winter day. This zoo is only closed on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas so it is fun thing to do with your kids on a winter weekend for a change of pace. THe animals and their habitats are well taken care of and the staff is helpful and fun. The gift shop is wonderful. The admission price is reasonable so taking your family there is affordable for most. The zoo is easy to find and is only ten miles from Mall of America. What a great fun time.

They have a wonderful shows exhibits are really great. . They have the tram to ride which you have to pay extra for. I don't know that it is worth it there are not a lot of animals to see there and is hard to see . i enjoy it more when we walk it but it is a long walk for small children or elders . it is pretty pricey and you even for parking

PROS: a must see once a year
CONS: price

We're members at the Minnesota Zoo and enjoy going once a month or so. Recently they've update the look of many exhibits--a great improvement. They are adding a new Africa trail which should bring more fun animals.

The dolphin and bird shows are not to be missed. During winter they have an indoor bird show that isn't quite as fun, but the birds do fly closer to your head!

The farm part is closed over the winter, but during the summer the milking demonstration is always educational and enjoyable.

It's gotten fairly expensive, so if you visit more than once, it's worth it to buy a membership.

We have a family zoo pass that we renew every year. This is a great year round zoo. IN the summer we go and walk all the trails and see the animals in their natural environment (no cages, and the fences are hardly visible). In the winter we do all the indoor things like the dolphin and bird shows. The animals seem to be very well taken care of. Everyone that works there that we have met seems to really love the animals.

There is no doubt, the Minnesota Zoo is pricey. Definately look at the season pass options. For our family, we figured out by just going two times during the year, the pass paid for itself. Also as a passholder, you don't have to pay for parking, so figure that into it also. Overall, the zoo is wonderful. The dolphins are definately the highlight. The zoo seems to get many different exhibits so there is usually something new to see. In the summer it is so nice, because there is so much to see outdoors. Yet, it is great to come during the winter because there is enough to see just inside if it is too cold to go out.

Minnesota zoo is by far the best zoo we have ever visited! There is so much to do, you almost need the whole to spend there. One of our favorite things was the camel rides! You can have your picture taken as you ride around on a live camel. They also have a swan shaped paddle boat that you can ride around the lake in and a tractor ride that takes you to a nearby petting zoo. Besides all of those fun things there is also plenty of animals to see. The zoo is a little pricey but definately worth every penny! I highly recommend taking a trip to this zoo if you have not been here.

They have a wonderful dolphins show which I just love. And the inside exhibits are really great. I think they change the main one every year. They have the tram to ride which you have to pay extra for. I don't know that it is worth it there are not a lot of animals to see there. They could use some more in the back. You also have to pay for parking. All in all it's a great place to go and have a fun day.

The Minnesota Zoo has a lot of animals. They have a lot of exhibits also. The dolphins are a huge hit with our family. We like that there is a lot to look at. However, we think that the zoo is really lacking because they don't have some of the more popular animals that kids like. And, the animals that they do have that are popular are far away and can't always be seen. Because of this we think 12 dollars a person is a lot to spend when como zoo provides entertainment for the younger crowd. We do have an annual pass to the MN zoo. That is the only reason we visit.

The Minnesota Zoo is a zoo that is concerned with the health and safety of their animals as well as their guests. Animals may not always be easy to spot because they have so much room to roam, but you know they are kept healthy and not just cooped up in a tiny cage. Memberships are very reasonable and depending on the size of your family pay for themselves in just two or three trips. The educational opportunites abound and it is just a great place to spend a day with your family. They have lots of indoor exhibits and that makes it a year round destination. And the member only lines get you in quicker during the busy summers.

I have had an annual membership to the MN Zoo for about 6 years now. It is really the only way to go as admission is ridiculous at $10 or more! You can get a family membership for $70.00 and go for the entire year! They have a nice outside loop with 2 playgrounds and a farm that you can go out to by tractor. They have a large petting zoo there and you can even see them milk a cow! To me, the best part is the indoor track because it offers real entertainment for the winter! When you are stuck in the house in the middle of January, you can go there and let the kids run around and see lots of cool animals! The animals at this zoo are not traditional ones, which I find a bit disappointing, but it is still fun!

The Minnesota Zoo in Apple Valley has a number of buildings so it's a great place to go in the winter as well. Of course, it's lots of fun in the summer, too. They have a farm area where kids can touch farm animals. The zoo is clean and well kept. I just love the prairie dogs! While they have a lot of diverse animals, they are missing a few key animals that you'd expect to see at the zoo, such as giraffes and elephants.

This is a great place to go if you have the whole day, otherwise plan on only visiting the different regions in segments. A day-long visit can be somewhat overwhelming to children and pocketbooks, but if you have the energy and the money, then by all means, go to it.

All of the displays are excellent and many are interactive, hands-on fun. You can visit the tropics or the actic and everywhere in between.

A season or year pass is strongly recommended as you'll surely want to come again!

PROS: Excellent displays and hands-on fun!
CONS: Go only with lots of money and energy or you may be overwhelmed

This zoo is missing some vital animals - elephants, giraffes, etc. However, the membership will pay for itself after about three visits. Very good deal! The staff is always telling us new information about the animals or upcoming exhibits. They truly care about children and their job. It is nice to see that for a change. It is a very quick drive to get out here even if you come from a distance.

Minnesota Zoo is one of the those places entire family can enjoy and never get tired of it. I especially like indoor exhibits, you can spend hours just watching monkeys! There is even an exhibit of nocturnal animals, so one can see them while they are active Minnesota Zoo is the only place Ive seen it so far. Definitely go - and come back again and again, one day is not enough to see everything.

Minnesota Zoo provides a fun experience for everyone, with or without children. It is one of the better zoos that we have been to, with tons of different animals and much to see and do. We especially enjoyed the dolphin show and marine exhibits...very impressive, particularly for the Minnnesota area. They also have a great Imax-like theater experience that often features great shows. I highly recommend it both to those who live in the Minnesota area and for those who are visiting the area.

PROS: Lots to see
CONS: None

The Minnesota Zoo is a great zoo to take your young kids to. They have a petting zoo area so the kids can feed and pet the goats and other smaller animals. They have a good selection of wild animals the kids just love to see because they only see them on TV or read about them in books. They zoo is well kept, the service is very friendly and the prices are very reasonable.

It is a fantastic way to keep our daughter entertained and educated, She loves it there and her dad and I always have a great time too! Our daughter really loves the dolphin show. We came here first, this place is really big and Ashley loved it. Shes a very big animal person and I was glad to be the one to bring her here for the first time. She really loved the burd show and could't wait til we went to the imax. It was a great time to get away with her. I liked the wild horses they had, Beautiful.

I can't believe the reviews here, either. There are over 2000 animals, representing 500 species. These people who didn't see animals must be blind or just not sure what an animal looks like. The animals at Como are in small, concrete inclosures, unfit for living. It's cruel. During the winter, they keep the giraffe in a 10 by 10 pen - for months!! That's the reason you don't see African animals at the MN zoo. There, they do what is best for the animal. In other words, they care. And as far as the price is concerned, have you been to Sea World lately? It's like $80 per person!! $12 at the MN zoo is cheaper than most zoos - most decent zoos, that is.

Great family fun spot. The new Russia exhibit is great and the Minnesota exhibit has been remodeled. Friendly and knowledgeable volunteers all around. Lots of interactive stuff for the kids to learn from.

I wouldn't waste the trip or the money! The place was overgrown with weeds and yet they were still spending millions on a new area for new animals to come when they haven't even faced the problems they have NOW! Weeds were overgrown in ALL exhibits! We rarely saw any animals and when we did they didn't look happy in my opinion. It is a poorly run facility. Some of the best zoos I've seen are the San Antonio, St. Louis, and of course the San Diego Zoos. Don't waste your time with this one!

I was very disappointed in this zoo. The zoo hardly had any animals. The animals that they do have are farm type of animals. I was hoping to see elephants, zebras, giraffes, kangaroos, hipoos...animals like that. The monorail was cool, it's too bad you have to pay the high entrance fee just to ride this....since you can see everything from up there. The only thing I really liked was the dolphin show.

I can't believe the reviews here. The MN zoo has alot of different kinds of animals. I have always loved the MN zoo. It is a fun place to walk and enjoy animals. Sometimes the animals don't cooperate and aren't available (ie sleeping) but the only reason I can think someone would be disappointed is if they were too lazy to walk around and see all the different exhibits they have. As far as the cost, zoo's are expensive to maintain! Hello! It's barely more than a movie and much more educational!!

I recently went to the zoo. I hadn't been there since it opened. I couldn't have been more disappointed. Hardly any animals at all! If they did have an animal there was like...one. We got in the car and went to Como Zoo. It was free at Como but I would have paid what I paid at the MN Zoo for what I saw. Guerillas, Tigers, Lions, Monkeys. We were laughing at how bad the MN Zoo was compared to Como Zoo. Plus, you could get close to them. Forget the MN Zoo...
