The new Corvettes is excellent.
by Kevin M.
Best cheeseburger that I have ever had! My gf and I were worried when we heard that Corvettes was moving. We feared that they would change the menu, and the food quality would go down. (That is what happened to the Rock Bottom in La Jolla.) Then my GF read some negative reviews about the new Corvettes. But we went with an open mind Friday evening July 24, 2009 about 5:30 p.m. Here was out experience.
Finding the new Corvettes Diner was easy, even without the address. For an adventure we simply decided to head to Liberty Station, the former NTC off of Rosecrans. Once we entered there off of Rosecrans the signs directed us eastward toward the diner. There was plenty of free parking, which is why we many times didn't go to corvettes in Hillcrest; we were tired of paying for parking.
The new diner is very noisy, more so than the restaurant, which was plenty noisy also. But for an hour or more the noise is tolerable. I wish the music would be turned down a bit though. It was crowded and there were a lot of kids. We were told 15 or 20 minute wait and given a pager. After 10 to 15 minutes were were summoned and seated in the room with black light. This was a great effect.
The service was excellent. They didn't throw straws or bubble gum but that is okay. Change isn't bad, if what replaces it is good. The DJ was busy and the kids and people were having a good time. The same great hits of the 50's to 70's were playing. There is a large TV screen over the bar that runs a continuous loop of 50's and 60's film clips; really good stuff.
We both ordered the DeeDee burger. When it came I bit into this and the taste was unbelievable. It was incredibly tastey and juicy and filling. My GF agreed. We thought the fries weren't as good but they were acceptable. They were dry and probably healthier. But I didn't care because the DeeDee, which is a cheeseburger with all the fixings, was fantastic. If I hadn't been filled up I would have ordered another for dessert.
The only true fault I found for the entire time we were there was at 6:45 p.m on the way out I stopped to use the restroom, both of the soap dispensers were completely dry and empty. I worry about handwashing for the patrons but I wonder if employees use this restroom also. That is easily correctible and I would hope that handwashing would be made a very top priority for the management.
Otherwise it was a good time and a nice new Corvettes...and the best cheeseburger I have ever had.

Great fun atmosphere for a non-typical dining experience. The waiters act 'rude' but it is part of the game so play along. The shakes are amazing but they will fill you up if you drink it all before dinner. Typical diner menu but with a delicious twist. Even if some ingredient combinations sound strange TRY THEM! (you'll be surprised!)

This restraunt is fun for the whole family with its kid friendly atmosphere and energetic staff. No matter what your age or who your going with, this place will make any dull day a great one. The food is great, but fattening so don't go there if you do not want to pack on calories; getting a salad there is just not as fun and pointless. When you go get into the atmosphere and jump out of your boudaries, it will bring you back to the 50's like is used to be.

The Corvette diner doesn't only have great food, they have a fun and welcoming atmosphere. The servers are upbeat and cater to your needs. This is also a great place to take kids and have parties. The price is moderate and can get expensive, but it is well worth it for all you get. Beware though: the servers do make jokes and throw straws and gum on the table. Not in an offensive manner, but in a fun way. If you ahve never been and haven't heard about it, it could be misconstrued as offensive. You have got to see it to believe it.
The retaurant is centrally located. Parking isn't always easy to find, but be prepared to pay a parking fee for the parking lot, or bring quarters to park in a metered zone.
