Taryn Bruner did a pretty good job cutting my hair, but she is a terrible colorist. Despite seeing the blonde tones in my previously highlighted hair and my telling her that I want the entire crown blonde, she gave the entire top of my head a mousy brown color which perfectly matched my natural hair color underneath NOT what I asked for or wanted. I wanted blonde as I had previously. When I went in to have her fix it by adding blonde to the top of my head she ruined my hair by adding about 12-15 strands of hair that are anywhere from completely stripped of all color (with top inch dark brown) to red to brassy yellow also with dark brown roots. I have never looked this bad in 20 years of highlights. Just awful. I have an appointment with a different stylist next week. I wish I could post a photo. Near my temple, if you lift the top hair, there is a section 1 inch wide that was stripped to pure white and the roots are dark brown. The top of my head is an awful mess of terrible tones. Not a single pretty blonde color there.

I've recently relocated from out of state and was told of Tribez by a woman at the gym. She had great hair style and she told me of Vivian at Tribez. At first, I was reluctant however, my fears were laid to rest once Vivian walked me through her consultation. Her suggestions were constructive keeping in mind my needs, face shape, hair texture, skin color, etc. She explained to me what was current and appropriate for my age in terms of styles that were in keeping with today's trends. Vivian is a great communicator, experienced stylist, and very patient. She focused her attention on me and also knew that I was looking for a new look without going overboard. After my first experience, I realized that I was in good hands and look forward to seeing her again. I left the salon feeling like I was on 5th Avenue. Atmosphere is very upscale and vibrant. Thanks Vivian.

Agreed that this is not a top tier salon. The talent pool seems to be generally low and egos are very high. Donald cut my hair twice and both were bad experiences. If you want amazing layers, skip Donald and head to another salon

After a 2 year battle with breast cancer, it's been hard trying to get my hair back to normal. I went to several stylists in the Danville area that tried but could not get my hair back to normal.

That all changed yesterday when I was referred to Taryn Bruner at Tribez salon in Danville. Taryn took the time to evaluate my hair and understood my concerns about cut and color. After an hour in the chair she changed my hair from rags to riches! I love this GIRL! OMG! Amazing cut and the color is PERFECT.

I am in awe of her and her talents as a stylist. Pricey naw.. I paid about $25 more for a salon cut in Danville at two other upscale salons. In my opinion, you get what you pay for, so why not go to the best. Taryn is not a stylist she's an ARTIST!! She takes good care of you!

Thanks Taryn,

Lizz does great color, my hair is "dirty blonde" and I usually come in for highlights. Sometimes I like it lighter and other times with more low lights. Lizz always gets the shade precisely right and works with me to find the shade that I am willing to maintain (she'll adjust it for touch ups every 6 weeks or 8 weeks, depending what I want). She uses good quality color that does not leave my hair damaged or dry.

I am extremely particular about my highlights; she takes very small sections all around to achieve the natural look, even though I am sure it takes much longer then doing a few "chunky" highlights. I am also very particular how the highlights fall around my face and how close they are to the scalp and she does a perfect job. The blonde always comes out nice, not brassy or ashy. At times when I want to save some money, she works with me and does partial highlights in the front and top but it still looks great.

Additionally, she is a very professional and nice person. And she can always get me in on the day and time that I like.

Since Lizz transfered to Tribez, it is now further away from my house, however I am willing to drive extra distance to see Lizz.

I highly recommend Lizz!

She is definitely up to date on the latest in cuts and styles. She has always been very attentive in making sure I am happy with myr hair! I highly recommend her!

Found myself looking for a new hair stylist recently so I went online to investigate my options. What else would any self-respecting blogger do? Tribez Salon looked like a clear-cut winner as I found many positive posts about the salon. One in particular just raved about Taryn Bruner. Seemed almost like synchronicity as my maiden name is Bruner.

Noon today I arrive at the shop and enter with trepidation. It's been years since I walked out of a salon feeling like a million bucks. Seeing the Diablo Magazine "Best of the East Bay 2006" poster made me feel a bit more at ease. I signed in and was offered a seat, very comfortable I might add. As I sat there I felt the energy flowing about the stylists and their customers. There in front of me were people with really great hair syles, complete or in the making. The lady nearest me had the most amazing cut and style. Being the prepared person I am, I whipped out my digital camera and asked permission to take photographs of her hair style to show my new stylist.

In just a couple of minutes Taryn met me in the waiting area with her assistant Shannon. She set me down for a consultation and asked what type of style I was looking for. I was able to point to the woman with the cut & style I really liked. Taryn commented that it was a bit short and I agreed, but the layers and the fullness were what I had really been talking about more than the length. Taryn asked what types of implements I use when styling. I told her that I blew it dry, but usually had to use a flat iron to smooth it down. She recognized this as a need, and told me that she'd help me with tips so that I would be able to style my hair with a blow dryer alone. We discussed styles, the condition of my hair, color and product. Off I went with Shannon, her assistant for the shampoo.

I learned that Shannon was a recent beauty school graduate who was "paying her dues" to become a great stylist in the future. Rather than getting her own chair immediately, she was assisting in a salon with many great stylists who use different techniques but all do great hair. She is doing this to learn and absorb tips and tricks of the trade. S-m-a-r-t girl. I admire her actions. [Kind of like why I went after all those designations early in my career. I felt I needed to learn from the best in the business.]

Taryn gave me the perfect cut and style. Along the way she gave me all the tips I needed to style my own hair. It starts with the right brush, actually, LOL. There was a lot more detail, but this is not how to do my hair. This is about a young professional that does a superb job for a very fair price. Taryn Bruner is a designer quality stylist for bargain basement prices. Taryn spent two years as an assistant after getting her license. When asked, she told me that she also trained at Vidal Sassoon.

Don't be confused about the reviews about "Troy" at Tribez Salon. In fact, the Troy that is referenced in the Insider Reviews no longer works at Tribez. However, there is a Troy Rong at Tribez who relocated from Geno's Salon in Blackhawk and a Troy Ledo that will start working at Tribez in February from Phoenix Salon in Walnut Creek. Sorry, ladies .... we just can't get enough of them.

I have been a client of Tribez since the opening of the Salon. And believe it or not, it has even gotten better in the last few months as they are expanding and continuing to add very competent cutting-edge stylists. I have used all of the services available there and have found it to be top-notch and everyone there always provides a wonderful experience. I recently had my hair styled and colored by Taryn Bruner, who did a fabulous job. She took the time to discuss with me my concerns with my hair and was able to give me a hair style that looks contemporary and fashionable without being inappropriate for someone over 50 with challenging fine and straight hair. This place has an upbeat atmosphere with great energy and is a must visit for facials, pedicures, manicures, massages and hair.

I have baby fine hair, a lot of it, plus it is curly! Jill did a fantatic job with the cut and color (weave) and really took her time on my hair. Been all around the Bay and she is one of the finest I have been too and a reasonable price. Thanks

Greta had been cutting my hair for several years and I have been extremely happy with her. She always has done a fantastic job even when I sit in her chair and shrug my shoulders when she asks what I want done. I always get tons of compliments and my hair is very easy to maintain in the time between haircuts. I have since moved out of the bay area and have tried several stylists where i now live. They haven't come close to doing as good of a job and I now will drive the 2 hours back to Danville to have Greta do it right.

I have been going to Greta for years and she has never disappointed me in working with my hair! She is absolutely wonderful and my entire family goes to her! Every one of us haas a different hair type, and every time she makes our hair look amazing! She is so sweet & I bring in pictures and she always matches them exactly to what I want! My mom gets extensions done by her, and she gets complemented all the time! My sister, who is away at college, will only get her hair done by her, so when she comes to visit us, she gets her hair done! We all really love Greta and I highly recommend her!=]

I go to Tribez solely for waxing. They are absolutely great in this area and I would not go anywhere else. Although, the hair styling leaves much to be desired, I would and do go next door for all of my hair needs. I went to get my haircut there and it was absolutely horrendous. I will now only go next door to Rachelle or her sister. For waxing though try Denise or Natasha.

I went to Tribez Salon recently hoping to get a cute new haircut and a fun color for the summer. I was seen by Greta. BIG MISTAKE. I don??t think she is professional or courteous with her clients and I??ll tell you why.

I showed her at least 5 pictures of colors that I was interested in and they were all in the light brown color scheme. I have naturally dark brown/black hair and wanted a lift. She assured me she could give me what I wanted. Two hours later, after she had applied the highlights and began cutting my hair, I mentioned that I wasn??t satisfied with the color. I thought it would be lighter and not just brown highlights on black hair. She responded that if she had gone lighter with my hair, she would have had to use bleach and it wouldn??t be healthy, I wouldn??t be able to maintain it, and that??s not what I would want.
I was so furious on the inside because I didn??t think she had a right to decide how I should maintain my hair. She is paid to give her clients what they want, not to give them what she thinks is best. What does she know!?! So very nicely I told her that I still wanted lighter hair and after our 5 minute debate over what was best for my hair (completely unnecessary), I pointed to the pictures AGAIN and said, please make hair look like this. She seemed frustrated but I don??t think I was at fault. Before she starts a treatment, she needs to explain to her clients exactly what she??s going to do and what it will end up looking like. We don??t know or understand hair, it??s HER JOB to explain it to us and LET US decide if we want to go through with it. Had I not said anything to her, I would have walked out of Tribez with the same hair color, but if I tilted my head in just the right light you could see, with squinted eyes, that I had some highlights. I don??t know if she just screwed up or doesn??t know how to color black hair, but the initial product was nothing special. And after 3 hours, my hair was all one color, a brownish-orange. I didn??t complain after that since I was tired of being there and didn??t want to work with her anymore.

I am still so upset with myself for not demanding better service, instead I was more worried for Greta??s schedule and her next client. I mentioned that she didn??t have to dry and style my hair the second time, but she took it to the next level! My hair was dripping wet when I got out of her chair. She couldn??t even towel dry my hair?!? Absurd.

Another reason why I??m upset is because I don??t feel she gave me a full salon service for the price she charged me. I felt she made the mistake, yet she still charged me an additional $25 so I was now paying $180 for something I wasn??t happy with. She may have not been verbally rude to me, but her neglect WAS rude and the way she just got rid of me without an apology for the mix-up or thanking me for being patient and concerned about her next client was completely hurtful. She took advantage of my niceness and I wish I could get my money back.

I really had a bad experience at Tribez and that??s why I had to write this review. Otherwise I am not the kind of person that takes the time to criticize a stranger like this, but Greta deserves it. Did I forget to mention that I gave her a $10 tip because I felt bad. I normally tip very well, but I thought it should be lowered in this case. I shouldn??t have paid any tip. I am honestly ashamed to say I paid $190 when my friends and family ask me how much my color cost, because honestly I??m pretty sure I could have done the same thing using $10 box of hair color from Longs Drugs.

Again, I wish I could get my money back and I hope a manager reads this and has a talk with Greta. She needs to learn how to treat her customers, especially if they??re unhappy. I won??t ever go to Tribez again because of my experience there with Greta.

I wouldn't trust my hair with anyone else. Cimone and Troy - founders of Tribez and formerly the backbone of Salon X and Nuvo (Cimone) - are my favorites - the two have been my hair gurus for over 10 years...They are consistently the most technically accurate and fashion-forward stylists. As a former ad creative in San Francisco, I would free up my schedule to make it out for their haircuts. On the occasion I couldn't, I kept Vidal Sassoon along with Architects & Heroes as backup - BACKUP - they're names preceded the technical ability of many of the younger stylists (a haircut should look great regardless of whether or not you have hair product in it).

Yes, they have assistants - only the skilled touch your hair. Beware of stylists that don't offer education and assistantship opportunities - this means the stylists aren't worth learning from. If you want a major hair change or are seeing a person for the first time, state so that way you can have more time set aside for a consultation. Tribez is the tier of Dekko / Architects & Heroes without the city attitude. And their hair editorials appear in the same magazines - so think world class. The staff is constantly travelling and learning and educating. The stylists are invested into.

From reading other reviews, it's obvious Tri-Valley locals like to have salon people kiss their toes. Grow up. It's a real salon, with a full education program. And frankly, the assistants are more technically adept than many of the seasoned stylists from "cutting edge" salons in the Bay Area. At the end of the day, if you don't know how to communicate the style you are hoping for, then don't expect magic. These folks are pretty amazing - make sure to reveal a little about your personality so you can get paired with your perfect stylist.

These folks are pretty amazing - make sure to reveal a little about your personality so you can get paired with your perfect stylist.

I went in October to do something very drastic to my hair. I went to get it permanently straightened. I had been recommended to Lori by someone else I know who had the same thing done. I was nervous, because when I got there, there were people everywhere and I was wondering if I was going to have the same attention other people got. I met Lori, who is extremely friendly by the way, and I was so excited that Lori had her own little private salon with 2 seats in it in a different room. The process took a very long time, because I had tons of hair and it was all curls. About 2 weeks later, it started going back to normal. We went back, and she did the whole thing again for free. This time, it stayed for 6 months like she said, and I am going back there tomorrow for another touch up and a cut. I definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants a high end treatment by people who really know what they're doing.

I'm not sure about the other Salon staff in general, but make an appointment with Dean! Her cuts are PERFECT. She listens to what you want, and she has great ideas and techniques for achieving the look you want! I've sent people to her who are now regulars!

Not only did Troy give me one of the WORST hair cuts I have ever had, but the assembly-line service was awful and all for $100 plus gratuity! Troy and this salon are overrated; don't become another sucker--avoid this salon!

While there are many talented stylists at Tribez, the most popular ones are over booked and you end up being taken care of by their assistants. For $100, there are stylists at other salons that treat you like your a valued client rather than just another person on the assembly line. Tribez may be the popular hot spot, but as consumers get smart about the value of a dollar they will go elsewhere.

I have been to this salon a couple of times and am not impressed. I feel like I'm on an assembly line and have to constantly wait for my stylist/colorist to attend to me.

I have tried so many Salons in Danville, San Ramon and Walnut Creek... and this salon is the absolute BEST!!! Their service was wonderful, and the salon is just beautiful. I went in for a massage with Debbie, who is by far THE BEST MASSAGE THERAPIST I HAVE EVER BEEN TOO!!!! I felt great, refreshed, and relaxed. Debbie is a very experienced massage therapist, and is able to offer many types of massage. I have been back several times, and she always delivers wonderful massages! Her rates are very competitive, especially for the quality of her services. And as a bonus, she is such a sweetheart! Trust me... you wil leave satisfied after a visit with Debbie!

I loved this salon. I have had my haircut their and received a facial in their spa. The stylist Janelle was so helpful and I still got compliments on my haircut 2 months after I was there! I now go regulary to see her for a cut and color and have never been disappointed. I especially like when I go in and am uncertain about what I want done with my hair, Janelle always has a suggestion and works with me to find something I like. The reception staff was very friendly and answered all the questions I had about the hair products for sale. I also received a facial from Natasha who was amazing! She gave me more info about my skin type than my dermatologist ever did and after following her instructions I have no more acne!

PROS: Easy to get to, good atmosphere, wide range of services
CONS:

I went to the Tribez Salon through a referral with another hairstylist. She raved about one particular hair stylist at Tribez, Troy. I was told I would be paying a higher price since this was my first consult/appt. with Troy and that I would not be seeing any of Troy's 'assistants.' That, unfortunately, was not my experience. Troy was in the middle of another haircut/style during my own appointment. He was clearly not ready to see me at my appointment time. He 'did' come over to me in the waiting area and asked me about my hair, etc. He seemed rather confused when I explained to him my concerns about my hair. He determined we should keep the same cut, with few changes. I was shampoohed by his assistant and plunked into a chair and waited approximately another 15 to 20 minutes before Troy finally came to my station. To make a long story short, I spent more time with Troy's assistant than I did with Troy. Troy also gave me a horrible haircut; in fact, it was so botched, I had to go to another Salon here in Danville to have it repaired. She did tell me she would speak to Troy. Troy did offer to see me to 'layer' my hair more appropriately, but he ended up ruining my hair even more. When I came home, the next day, I was horrified to see my once beautiful curls/wave reduced to nothing more than frizz and uneven botched layers. My hair looked awful...and I paid $100.00 for it (plus much more in tips and products.) I called and spoke with Tribez's owner/manager. She never apologized, but she offered to speak with Troy. She tried saying that, given Troy is not really her 'employee' (stylists are under individual contracts), she wasn't responsible. I told her I felt that, as the owner, she was somewhat responsible for anyone working under her 'roof.' I finally just requested a full refund. I would NEVER recommend this shop to anyone!! Service was absolutely awful.

This is a fantastic new salon in Danville. Great stylists, very cutting edge or polished depending on the stylist you choose. It is a full service salon that also offers massage therepy, manicures and pedicures as well as hair styling. They also do the new Ionic hair straightening - $100/hr but from what I understand it's well worth it
