This is a large zoo with a lot of exhibits. My family spent the entire day there. We all loved the dolphin show. My daughter really enjoyed "gardening." This zoo is really impressive - even the gift shop!

Ratings_icons Fun for everyone

Andi B. | insider Insider | Rank: 17,482

Thiszoo has so much to offer in such a great hands on environment that I enjoyed it even more than my own native National Zoo in Washington DC.

The animal exhibits allow a close up and realistic look at each species which encourages children to ask questions and examine things more thoroughly.

My toddler particularly enjoyed the petting farm and though leary of the goats eventually warmed up enough to pet them and the resident horse as well.

The food at the zoo was pricey (or course) but well worth the money. The organic hotdogs we enjoyed were so good, I have been searching for them in the stores. The meals were pleantiful and fresh.

The design of the zoo was a welcome change from others I have been to. With a central promenade, you can get from one side to the other in minutes and cover the whole thing on one day.

Excellent for a fun day with the kids

Ratings_icons World class zoo

R F. | insider Insider | Rank: 13,813

The Brookfield Zoo is truly a world class zoo. With every animal in the world, you will see all of your favorites plus a lot more. It is relatively clean and safe, parking is ample, and there is a LOT to do here. My only disappointment was "Boo at the Zoo". When we attended, there were no Halloween activities like we heard about, and quite a few of the animal exhibits were empty.

Ratings_icons I love this zoo

Donna S. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,050

This is a great zoo for a family outing. I always buy a membership where you can get great deals and save a lot of money. I like taking my family here and spending the day and picnicing in the park. I could spend hours with the Gorillas. This is just a fun place to go on a nice day. I totally recommend buying a membership, then you or your family can go several times a year without paying for parking or admission. Brookfields membership packages totally beat the value of Lincoln Park Zoo.

I haven't been to many zoo's, but this one is great! So much to do. Kids and adults will have fun. There's a lot of walking, but there are trams that go around.

This zoo is awesome! The memberships are really affordable and a must with my big family. The kids love the petting zoo and the hamil family zoo. It can get pricey without a membership so i suggest that you have one!

Ratings_icons Great for Young and Old

Huge natural environments for your whole familys viewing. Comfortable seating throughout the zoo. Handicapped friendly. Great shows such as the dolphin shows. Several nice gift shops to pick up some souveniers. The animal figure wax machine is always a family favorite. A great way to tire out your kids and create lifelong memories. Check out the monkey exhibit with no glass between you and them it's very cool. Our favorite family destination hands down.

Ratings_icons Best Zoo Ever

Jennifer T. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,264

By far the best zoo Ive ever been to. I love the way the park is laid out, devoting sections to each animal and sort of recreating the environments that they would be naturally found in. The monkey house is spectacular, my favorite part. Theres an unbelievable Discover Center that offer children to work hands-on, Children can touch animals, build habitats, examine animal X-rays, plant gardens, dress up in animal costumes, discover insects, and more. (www.brookfieldzoo.com) This zoo is nothing short of amazing.

Ratings_icons This place is a zoo...

One of the top zoos in the nation. The place is huge, seeing every last thing in one day is pretty tough. Look for the plaques that tell you what animals are exclusive in the world to this zoo. Be sure to get at least one plastic molded figurine from the machines. It is a stop on the metra Burlington Northern Line if you want to come in from the city. Admission is currently $8. Be careful to check the hours its open before you come late in the afternoon.

Ratings_icons Great for the whole family

Kathleen P. | insider Insider | Rank: 18,753

Brookfield Zoo is a great way to enjoy a beautiful sunny day. Children and adults of all ages will enjoy the nice atmosphere and many animals that are out on exhibit. If you think you will go more than once a year then it is well worth it to get a membership and amble parking is included. The other zoo in the Chicagoland area is Lincoln Park Zoo. In contrast, Lincoln Park Zoo has limited parking and the zoo is free but there is not many animals out for the children to see. Brookfield Zoo also has a Dolphin Show presentation for an additional small cost and many different themed events throughout the year.

Ratings_icons Great zoo!

Kerstin S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 11,939

Brookfield Zoo is the best zoo in the state and has every animals you can think of, along with incredible indoor exhibits, like the primate house and dolphin show. If you go during the holiday season, they have lights up and the animals get special treats (the monkeys got crazy over cereal!). Also definitely get some of the "animal" french fries. It's definitey worth the drive from the city and is reasonably priced.

Ratings_icons Day at the zoo

Julie P. | insider Insider | Rank: 16,134

Guaranteed to be a wonderful day. This zoo is full of fun perks, with special events such as Dr. day where kids can bring in their teddy bears for a "check-up". It can get pricey as there's many things not included with general admission, such as the children's zoo, dolphin show, butterfly exhibit. I wouldn't suggest spending the $3.00 adults/$2.50 kids fee for what seems like a 15 minute dolphin show, better spend that on the childrens zoo, where they can brush the baby goats and see the pigs up close.

Ratings_icons A fantastic zoo!

Jethro N. | insider Insider | Rank: 13,819

Brookfield is an amazing zoo. In addition to an impressive collection of animals, they also house them in an astounding array of habitats. You don't just walk by the same cage or open area again and again. At brookfield, you really get a better sense of the animals natural habitat as you visit each exhibit.

It's also the cleanest zoo I've been to (which is impressive, given the number of visitors they get). That fact also makes it one of the more kid-friendly zoos I've been to.

PROS: Excellent exhibits
CONS: a little pricey

Ratings_icons EXCELLENT ZOO

Elicia A. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,449

I loved this zoo. It's variety of animals and grounds were excellent. The staff at the zoo were great and greeted you with huge smiles. This zoo is very stroller friendly. I took my 5 month old daughter there and wheeled her around the zoo in her stroller very easily. I have been to many zoos around the world and this was certainly one of the best. My daughter was in awe the whole way through the zoo, its the quietest she has been since birth. So I am planning to take her there again very soon. The admission prices are reasonable and the parking was very easy to access.

PROS: good parking and good admission prices.

Ratings_icons The Best

Julie E. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 643

This is by far the best zoo in the area. The animal habitats are very nicely designed, and there are lots of different exhibits and shows to keep everyone in the family entertained. The restaurants are expensive and crowded, though. I recommend bringing a picnic lunch or else eating outside of high-traffic meal times. Definitely a better alternative than the "other zoo" downtown.

Ratings_icons Excellent Zoo, good variety of animals

Julie J. | insider Insider | Rank: 33,365

We recently took our 10 month old son, along with some relatives, who have a four year old, to the Brookfield Zoo. What beautiful grounds, it is a wonderful place to spend the day. The animal exhibits are very natural, and the animals seem happy and well-cared for. We especially enjoyed the children's zoo, where the children were able to pet a chicken and chick and watch a cow being milked. My son ( 10 months old) loved watching the otters flip and swim in circles, he also loved the giraffes and the polar bears. Having a baby at the zoo, it's nice to see animals who are very active, otherwise he wouldn't really get much out of the experience. My only criticism would be the extra costs to get into the children's zoo, butterfly exhibit, family play zoo, and the dolphin show. In my opinion, if you are already paying to park and for admission, I think everything else should be included in the cost. Besides that, I do think this is an excellent zoo, with beautiful animals and exhibits.

This is one of the largest zoos in the midwest,. They offer an outstanding Dolphin show and much, much more, If you are going to visit more than once during the year, I reccomend getting a season pass. It's a big money saver.
