Mario Tricoci Hair Co is Over-priced and Unwilling to Change

by TR R.

I have been getting my hair cut and colored at Mario Tricoci for about 4 years and I have always had excellent service from my stylist and colorist. However, the staff at the reception desk are typically rude and not helpful. My biggest complaint recently is that while I am paying full salon prices, people who ask me where I get my hair done go in and are offered the MOST EXPENSIVE hair treatments to be done on the side outside the salon at half price! I asked their corporate office that given the current economy will they be lowering any prices for services, I was given a complete non-answer-- so I'm not going to hold my breath and will get my hair done on the side along with everyone else. And Mario Tricoci wonders why they have less customers come in for services!

Unfriendly and rushed

by Cat M.

I have gotten several haircuts over past few years here. I have yet to find a stylist I like, and often leave feeling insulted. Stylists are often rushed and I have only had one consultation longer than a walk to the sink. Most stylists have made a comment that it has been a while since I have been there (I get way hair cut at other places and for some reason keep trying here). I would not recommend to anyone who just wants a haircut.

On the other hand, I have had some spa treatments (facials and massages) and have always found the staff in the spa friendly and helpful.

Next time I'll go there for a facial, but not again for hair

one time was enuf 4 me

by susan m.

Went to the Schaumburg Mario Tricoci shop over 15 years ago and never returned.. It was a mad house, supplies were scattered, they burnt my hair with the curling iron even when they were paying attention to me. I think she was trying to do too many people at once or the owners were making her feel pressured to. I have gotten the best coloring, haircuts, personal attention consistently for over 15 years from a local family owned shop in Palatine. I have been at the Arlington Heights facility for facials and my services there were great.. I don't know what it is with that Schaumburg shop.. I had never been to such a chaotic crazy stressful place.

Hit or Miss

by Anonymous

I have been going to Mario for the past 10 years on mall drive since I moved here. The quality has been declining slowly over the years. I have a great hair stylist (Gina) and the colorist is hit or miss. She generally does okay but for the money?

I have tried the makeup, skin care and waxing eyebrows which is all bad. I would NOT recommend doing this here. They push product hard and the product is not so great.

My husband took my 16 year old for a day at the spa and they were both disappointed. I would love to find a nicer quality place in the NW suburbs... Heck I would be willing to go into the city!

Unfriendly Nail Techs

by Anonymous

I have been here at least 10X for a pedicure and frequent this location because it's close to home. I just recently brought my mother and sister here who were in town visiting for a pedicure. It was a horrible experience and I left feeling embarrassed. Two of the three nail techs who were assigned to us were extremely unfriendly. They made us feel as if we were bothering them. They didn't talk and had such a poor attitude. This is the 2nd time this has happened to me. I brought my mother here prior to this and we were given the same treatment. There are only 2 nail techs at this location worth seeing and they are Kathy and Veronica. The rest can go fly a kite!

As Bad As It Gets

by Anonymous

The time before last when I had my hair highlighted the chunks were a ridiculous 2 inches wide. I went back later and she said that she wondered why I didn't say anything when I left. Why didn't she? Then she went on maternity leave and her suggested replacement highlighted my hair. Unfortunately the majority of the highlights were on the left side only. I went back that Sunday and a newer colorist tried to fix it. Now there's more highlights on the left, but they are orange. I suggested to the manager that for my time and effort, something should be done other than my paying their astronomical prices for a colorist that told me she works part-time at Hooters. I also said that it was courteous to tip, so I was tired of paying tips for having my hair redone all the time. The manager kind of chuckled as if I weren't upset at having to spend so much of my time at the salon and did absolutely nothing. Any service she would have offered as appreciation for my time and inconvenience would have been good management. So much for good management! I've still heard from no one and I still have orange hair. SAD!

PLEASE STOP CRYING ABOUT THE PRICE !!!!!

YOU get what you pay for . SOME people want what they can never have I`m so sick of hearing complaints about I paid this much and walked out with this . I HAVE SEEN HORRIBLE LOOKING WOMAN COME IN AND THEY EXPECT TO LOOK LIKE A MOVIE STAR WELL LET ME PULL OUT MY MAGIC WAND AND KABOOM YOU ARE A SWAN .SOME PEOPLE JUST HAVE BAD HAIR AND THEY THINK BY PAYING MORE FOR A HAIRCUT WILL MAKE THEM MORE GOOD LOOKING .GET REAL! YOUR HAIR IS WHAT IT IS . YOU ARE INDEED IN BETTER HANDS. THE TRAINING PROGRAM IS BY FAR BETTER THAN OTHER SALONS THAT HIRE STYLIST THAT ARE FRESH OUT OF SCHOOL AND ARE LEARNING ON YOUR HAIR. ALL I CAN SAY IS CHECK OUT THE OTHER HIGH END SALONS IN THE AREA AND SEE WHAT THEY CHARGE THE PRICES ARE VERY COMPARABLE . AND IF YOU DON`T LIKE THE PRICES GO TO YOUR LOCAL RINKY DINK SALON THAT HAS NO TRAINING AND PRAY THAT YOU GET A GOOD SERVICE .

Half ass hair color for $270

by Rosie D.

I went to the Mall Drive location by the recommendation of a friend, who told me that the hair technician would do a great job, and I would get exactly what I wanted.Trusting that she was honest, I saw her same technician whom she bragged was awesome and they were close, when I first told her that I wanted the same thing that my friend had, she didn't even remember her or even know who she was. Well, I had to show her what I wanted and explained to her time and time again the same stupid thing. Well, make a long story short, I was charged $270 for a hair color that was only the top of my head, and now my hair looks like I'm wearing a two-color toupee'. I had to go to Walgreens and finish my own hair, which only cost me $8 for a box of color and I did exactly what I wanted. This place sux and won't recommend to anyone.

$20 dollar hair cut for $60.00

by Anonymous

This was my second time going to Mario Tricoci Hair Spa.The First time my hair cut was of pure quality. Richard had put a fantastic style on me. He just look at facial features and went to town with no direction from me. I never looked better. And It showed all my friends and co-workers were very impressed. The price was $70 and it was worth every penny and more. I left feeling I got a MarioTricoci hair cut. Unfortunately the next time I need my hair cut he was gone.Which now I was left to try another stylist or search other salons. I decided to try one more time. This was my first time seeing this stylist. She asked what I wanted and I could tell her what I liked about my last hair cut which was everything. I was sent back to be shampooed about 10 minutes after my friend had hers washed. Place in her chair and she asked did I like bangs or how I wore my bang. I told her I like them off my face. because I have a small face and short forehead. I did say I'm going to 44 and I don't want a hair cut to reflect 44 single mom. That was about all we talked about. I really can't put down in words how bad I looked when I left. but I had almost a full bang and my sides were plastered down on my sides. And the last thing she said to me now you don't look like a mom. I never have felt more like a 44 mom with a bad and I mean bad style lets just say it was not worth $60. I went to see my friend to see how she was coming along who started 10 mins. before me and was not done yet so I waited for her for aleast 30 more mins. Her hair cut was beautiful and I was taken in 10 mins. after and was done 30 mins. before her that should say something. If I had to guess I would say I could get this hair cut from any local salon for about $25-$30.00. There was no persision cutting involved. And that is why I went to Tricoci's in the first place. She spent more time talking about life, stars, and bottle water topic. With every one around us instead of the work she was hired for . I beleived she has done hair a long time but has lost what is important finding the right cut for the person in your chair and working for someone with that reputation like Mario Tricoci. She should be a Ulta or another type salon. But not there. When I left with my friend she agreed full heartly that my cut was not worth $60.00. She said it looks like when my friend who does hair out of her basement does it. I was a hairdresser at one time myself so I feel I know what I talking about. Now I'm a customer a very dissapointed one I woke up this morning and recut the top and sides. I don't think I'll be back. If I'm going to receive a cut like that I can get that any where. Thanks for reading this.

Day Spa Dump

by c f.

I went here for my birthday "spa" day 12/06. My fav place is in a strip-mall near home, so I was really looking forward to a "fancy" spa. The hair salon looked nice, but the day spa area was a dump. It is a tiny hallway of rooms with pocket doors from the 70's. I almost stopped the massage b/c of the sliding, slamming, talking, and rolling of a chair on tiles in the room above. I-290 would have been a quieter place to get a massage. Even better, the therapist had to leave to get additional supplies, and I loved it when his cell phone started vibrating. Oh so relaxing. I about gagged when I used the toilet. This closet was also being used by staff -- the toilet paper holder had been ripped out of the wall, and the spa bought a "stand" for the paper, and repaired the wall holes by stuffing them with toilet paper. The dirty grout and plunger in the corner added extra ambiance. After my massage, I heard the nail tech complaining outside to the massage therapist that I was putting her behind -- like it was my fault! I ended up cancelling the rest of my appointments - the spa couldn't rearrange anything for me. What a disaster. What a rip-off. I will NEVER return to this salon.

Ok

by Mary A. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,900

This salon is way overpriced for the services they offer. You may get a decent job done, but I think can get it done just as well at another salon that charges half the price! They do good colors but I honestly think it can be done elsewhere. And expect to feel like you need to give a large tip!

Completely Over Priced

by Katelyn R. | insider Insider | Rank: 14,613

If you are looking to pay way too much money for an average product come to Mario Tricoci. You can find much more qualified and more personable hair stylists at locally owned salons and pay less for a better haircut.

While the place is professional enough, their prices are a bit high for just a simple haircut. I probably wont go there agin anytime soon, as I can get the same cut done much cheaper elsewhere.

Hectic & Rushed

by Alvina C. | insider Insider | Rank: 13,019

I had an appointment for a waxing and a pedicure. The appointment maker reversed the appointment--so I had a pedicure done first then the waxing. It turns out they did not book enough time for the waxing services (I was having 3 areas waxed)--So with one more coat of polish needed--I was swept away to go get waxed--since there was only 30 minutes for that--the esthetician had to rush to complete it then the nail tech had to come back and put another of polish on. Very disorganized--I expected more from a big name place that has so many locations---My services were good but the whole ordeal was a lot more stressful than relaxing. I may have to pass on returning to this location.

PROS: Servicing technicians were great.
CONS: Inexperienced appointment makers. Disorganized.

AVERAGE STAFF AND SOMETIMES AVERAGE SERVICES

by Elicia A. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,344

I went to this salon just once and that is enough for me. The girls were not exactly friendly and the hair stylist that I had was not what I expected for a big name salon like this. I also had my make-up applied here and even though they were good at it, they did it just how I do it. If I had of known that I would have saved my money and done it myself. The prices are a bit on the expensive side, so for me the services they provide dont justify the prices they charge.

PROS: Big name salon
CONS: Average employees and quite expensive

Designer Hair

by Marianne D. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,038

If you are the kind of person who wants to feel like they are wearing the latests clothes and are up to date on what is "in" regardless of the cost, this is the place for you. They will make you feel like you are doing "the best" with their consultations and large assortment of services, but all that feel good service comes at a price. They are very well trained and professional, but with a little effort you should be able to find an equally trained stylist at another salon for a lot less money. But if you want to feel pampered, they do an excellent job.

I have gotten my haircut here once before. I did not like it very much. Some of the girls can be very moody. Also, the prices are very high for just a haircut.

Mario Triccoci is the best place to get hair done from. They do a great job. Best of all, they give you free a free consultation and advice with each appointment. However, it can be a little bit expensive.

Over-priced Haircuts

by Jennifer C. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,020

The salon service at Mario Tricoci is professional, but I think you could get the same haircut for a lot cheaper elsewhere. The prices range from (approx. $40-60) depending on who your stylist is. I've seen people that love their hair style and also people that hate it, so it really depends on who your stylist is. I also got my makeup done here. The cosmetologist was also very professional; however, I could have gotten the same makeup application done at a department store makeup counter for free.

PROS: The are a full-service salon and spa.
CONS: Pricey services.
