Yummy vegetarian American food served up in a funky East Village dive. The vegan 'un-turkey' club and shepard's pie are favorites but the Friday night BBQ special with mashed potatoes, yams and collard greens is worth the week long wait. Also - the tofu scramble brunch special!! Prices are reasonable; dinner for 2 is $25-30. The staff is typically apathetic and you can count on hearing anything from Bob Dylan to Judas Priest over the second-rate sound system.

I love Kate's, and I'm totally addicted to this vegetarian comfort food restaurant. Seriously, I need an Unturkey Club, stat! Sometimes the service is slow (especially Sunday brunch)...but it's so worth it.

Kate's Joint serves surprisingly good imitation meat. I recommend the buffallo unchicken wings. They also have a full bar, which is a good thing at any restaurant. They have a nice menu (not too big, but a good variety) and i can't say that i've ever gotten anything there that i haven't liked. it's worth a try. Draws a hipster crowd.

this is my all time favorite restaurant. if you like fried junk-food style eatin, and you are vegetarian or vegan, or even if not, this is the place for you. my dad even digs this place. their buffalo unchicken wings are the best thing ever. i get them every time. i never knew i liked greens until i had their collards sauteed with garlic chips. plus, mashed potatoes and gravy as an option with every entree. carb-tastic! (i think? not really sure what carbs are actually.) also they have a delightful brunch with stuff like scrambled tofu rancheros and included in the brunch is freshly-made juice. the music is loud and there's lots of tattooed east village dudes slumped over the counter. i heart kate's.

If you are a vegetarian and have not been to Kate's yet, you have to go immediately! If you're in the mood for vegetarian junk food, this is the place to go. I wouldnt recommend the salads since I've never tried them. Stick to the fried tofu goodness.

Kate's is a wonderful place to eat vegetarian and vegan food, plus hang around with the East Village's bohemian artists and musicians.
Though it's expensive, the fake meats are wonderful. No-turkey club, faux buffalo wings and french toast are my favorites. Corner of 4th and Ave B. They deilver.
