Super H Mart

If you like fresh vegetables or seafood then the Super H Mart (across from Paul VI high school) is a place for you to visit. They have some of the best prices for fresh produce in the area, and all of the seafood I have tried has been very fresh. (shrimp, flounder, read snapper)

Super H Mart is a pretty good supermarket that carries good quality produce, meat and other foods. The selection of produce is quite vast and almost always fresh. The price is quite competitive and the customer service is pretty good as well. Parking usually not a problem but like many Asian food stores in the Washington DC/Northern VA area, it's best to avoid the weekend if possible because they tend to be very crowded. Their store is very clean and because of its large size, the aisles are pretty easy to navigate. As far as the type of food they carry, it's mostly Asian/International but they do carry some "regular" food like cereals, milk, and the like. Super H Mart is probably best known for its produce and the Asian food. Good store!

We've been shopping there since it was open a few years ago. Before that, we went to another store in Falls Church owned by the same company. This new store was designed more like traditional western style grocery store. Guess they targeted not only Asians, but other main stream shoppers. Prices were a little higher than the previous store in Falls Church, nonetheless, they still offer decent prices on a lot of items, especially thosse oriental ones. We usually buy fresh vegetables and fruits from them. Like in summer time, water melons are usually much cheaper than Giant, Safeway, even Costco etc. Same with vegetables, meats, fish and other fruits. Not all the items are cheap, you just need to pick those on sale. Non-asian items tend to be very expensive. like peanut butter, cereals etc. Buy those from elsewhere. The store is usually more crowded than Giant or Foodlion, not as organized as the other two either. But for the price, it is well worth the inconvenience. Compared another Asian grocery store nearby, Grandmart, Super H is cleaner, more organized, certain items are cheaper, certain are more expensive. If I 'm within the same distance to both stores and do not know what items are on sale in each store, I usually go to Grand Mart, just because usually they have more cheaper items than Super H.

I highly recommend this supermarket for the variety of products they offer. This is a Korean-owned store, so a large portion of the items are Korean products. They also have Chinese, Japanese, Other International foods, and the usual American products. Right inside the entrance, they have seasonal items (such as moon cakes), and a deli section with Asian selections. The produce section is large and you can find many vegetables you don't normally see here in Fairfax. The fish section allows you to pick live fish, in addition to frozen products. The frozen aisles offer a large selection of meats, prepared entrees, side dishes, and a lot more. The regular grocery aisles allow you to find regular household items and food products you are used to see in the American grocery stores. The merchandise section offers small electronics and other International household items. Therefore, everyone can find things you want in there. Unlike most of the International stores in this area, Super H Mart has a very modern look. The store is huge and bright. It is very comfortable to shop in. They do not usually offer competitive pricing, but they offer the uniqueness and the selection. Sometimes they do have very good sales. You can also check out the coupons online at their website. Most employees do not speak English, and they show a very strong preference to Korean customers. Sometimes I feel they are quite hostile when I simply try to ask a question. Therefore, don't even expect customer service there (unless you are Korean). The parking lot is very busy, but you can always find a space.

PROS: Unique and huge product selection, fun shopping environment.
CONS: Lack of customer service, higher than average pricing, unhelpful employees.
