Castro Theatre

This is the best art house theatre I've ever been to. Located in an old movie theatre in the heart of The Castro -- The Castro Theatre oozes character. Some of the best films play here. Definitely a must see for any film buffs.

What may be more striking the the movies shown is the architechture of this theater. Built in the twenties, the decor is that of the old movie palaces of the golden age of cinema. To add to the excitment there is a live organist to serenade you before the screening. Oh, and the movies, mostly independent and classics back for a theatrical run. Top notch!

PROS: It's beautiful and the movies are fantastic.
CONS:

Located in the heart of the Castro district the independent film theatre usually plays independent films. The theatre is more for locals and for people that are interested the independent films. The theatre is not that nice compared to AMC and Sony.

Go for an evening show and listen to the organ player bang out a tune on the only pipe organ in the city. Watch everything from new independent films to revivals of old film noir. Great space to watch a movie.
