The greatest theater!  5 Star Rating - World class

Sunshine Cinema is fantastic for all movies. In fact I don't think I've ever seen a movie there that I didn't like. The people there are really helpful and they can advise you on different movies playing because they are in the know, in case you're not. They have comfortable seats and lots of showtimes, making the whole thing a very pleasant experience. I always enjoy seeing movies there and I will continue to enjoy the experience. The movie selection is similar to the Lincoln Plaza location, but the crowd is younger.

CHARMING!  5 Star Rating - World class

Sunshine Cinema is what Angelika failed to do. The theatre itself is gorgeous - I mean, jaw-dropping gorgeous. There are no subway nuisance and the seats are actually comfortable. Another plus factor, is there are so many little seating areas throughout the entire theatre so you're never going to be crammed in one "lounge" area.

PROS: Indie flicks in a beautiful setting

LES Limelight  5 Star Rating - World class

The Sunshine Cinema is convenient to get to, and so happens to be in a hopping neighborhood. The pricing is equal to other theatres but the feeling I get when I leave this particular theater is memorable.

PROS: Comfortable seating
CONS: n/a

Great Theater  5 Star Rating - World class

This theater always plays the most interesting movies. There are about four or five movies showing at one time, but they are usually indie and unique. The theater is so low key. Although it can get crowded, it never feels crowded once you are inside. A trick of the trade is that once you are in, you can pretty much go to any theater you want or go to more than one movie (ie sneak in) because there are no staff really in the upstairs area. A favorite for me.

kicks Angelika's butt  5 Star Rating - World class

Sunshine has a really friendly, laid back staff. They also have a good selection of art films and other films. On the weekends, they play old movies at midnight, they call this "midnight movies." The building is nice looking, like a real theater, and the seats are comfortable. It's a good place to go for a movie and popcorn.

sunshine  3 Star Rating - Satisfactory

It's hard not to like a place as innocent enough to name itself Sunshine. Aside from the whimsical name ,this is a pretty standard theater that shows independent films, with a concentration in documentaries. So if you are dyng to see March of the Penguins and don't want to deal with the more pretentious art house places, this is a good choice.

Independent film theater  4 Star Rating - Very good

Most independent films get shown here. They have a great selectiton of movies, and also show foreign films. The theaters are comfortable and have very prett gold ceilings. They have snacks in the lobby, but nothin special-just popcorn and candie.

Best Spot for INDY films  5 Star Rating - World class

Whenever I want to see a movie, I check the listings at Sunshine. They get all the best documentaroes (just saw the Enron film and liked it) and independent films.

Also offer classics at midnight and other special events. The crowd is low-key and artsy. The theaters are on the small side, but very comfortable seats.

My Favorite Movie Theater in Manhattan  4 Star Rating - Very good

Sunshine is the spot to see independent films and documentaries.

The cinema gets the edgy selections and always has something good playing. The seats are comfortable and the theaters are clean--what more can your ask for?

They also do special events, such as movies for new mommies and thier babies.
