Dr. Joel Ang

I was a patient of Dr. Ang for more than a year and he failed to take interest in me after I got into a serious bike accident. Instead me passed my on to an assistant who was nice, but not my doctor. He also failed to get paperwork into my insurance provider on time, which caused all kinds of headaches on my end.

I have been Dr. Ang for 4 years now and I continue to be impressed by the level of care over the years. He is thoughtful, thorough and takes the time to go over testing which is done in house. This prevents the need to go to a separate lab and incredibly it is ready by the end of the visit. It is concierge care without the price tag done under the insurance. The billing system has also been improved and now I can tell what insurances actually pay for.
Overall, his practice is impressive and an asset to the community.

I have been going to Dr. Ang for the last two years. In reality I've probably been there 5 times due to some pre-existing health problems I have. I have been consistently impressed by Dr. Ang and his whole operation. I was very surprised to find the negative review listed on this site, especially since I've been raving about him and his practice to all of my friends and family.

First and foremost, unlike many other doctors and specialists I have been to in the DC area, I feel like Dr. Ang cares about me and takes the time to ask me about any symptoms I am experiencing. Although all doctors are pressed for time, I haven't felt like he is rushing me out the door which is a pleasant change.

I have also been incredibly impressed with the thorough digital printout of all blood test results, symptoms and topics we have discussed about my medical background that is given to me as a report with each visit. Further (at least for my condition which affects my absorption of nutrients) he has extensive nutrition testing done with every visit which is available by the time I see him in his office (the results are processed on site at their lab within an hour). Every time I go in they take blood and check my vital signs (done by nursing staff) and then all the results are available when I sit down with Dr. Ang (admittedly this can take about an hour to process in the in-house lab). He also has various specialty equipment available in house. I have had an EKG, bone density scan and breathing test for asthma all in house (included in my one insurance co-pay for the visit - instead of having to go to a specialist and paying another co-pay).

CONS:
The only cons I have experienced are with billing. The admin staff has always been nice and reasonably competent, but I wouldn't say they are extraordinary. They did once list charges on my bill which they were later able to get the insurance company to pay for. If I didn't ask them to press my insurance company, they would have had me pay for it. Also, it does appear to be VERY expensive if you don't have insurance that covers everything. Check carefully that he is in-network with your insurance plan before choosing him as a doctor. I would also say the office, which is in the bottom 2 floors of a beautiful town home is a little dark, but still functional.

Went to Dr. Ang last week for a phyiscal and was impressed by the level of service of his staff and the practice itself. Packed in a row house just off of Dupont Circle, the practice has in house lab for running the blood work quickly. Comprehensive physical, actually sat and chatted with Dr. Ang for a bit and felt very comfortable. Highly recommended and very convenient if you live or work down there.

PROS: comprehensive service, sent copy of blood work to my house
CONS: long wait but hey, it's a Dr.'s office!
