No Level III NICU - not recommended for high risk pregnancies  2 Star Rating - Wouldn't recommend

I didn't even realize they didn't have a Level III NICU until I went into pre-term labor with our 2nd baby at 31 weeks. I checked into the maternity floor at 10pm, and had to be transported to Stanford via ambulance at 1am because they have no way of caring for a baby born before 34 weeks. The birthing suites are spacious, clean, and comfortable, but I can only recommend it if you are having a normal pregnancy. If you are at high risk or have a history of giving birth pre-term, you need to find a different hospital, or at least have an alternate discussed with your OB. Feel bad for leaving a low rating because it is circumstantial.... however, I must agree that I wouldn't have chosen this hospital if I knew this fact ahead of time since our first child was born 4 weeks early.

Emergency Assistance Super Slow!  4 Star Rating - Very good

I have only visited the Emergency branch of this hospital, but they were horrible. I had a bone broken in my foot and they spent a really long time just to even get me into the consultation room. It took forever for me to recieve any pain killer and on top of it all I got billed for a "late night" charge on my X-rays. Aren't they always open anyway?

PROS: Closest Hospital to Burlingame, CA.
CONS: Slow.

Mills-Pen  5 Star Rating - World class

I had my oldest daughter here and just loved it. My husband was able to stay in the room with me the entire time and when my family showed up we had lost of room. The best thing about this place was the epidural pump - I didnt feel a thing. (On my 2nd in another hospital I only got a shot and it wore off and I wasnt allowed anymore.)

Mills Hospital  5 Star Rating - World class

My niece gave birth to a bouncing healthy baby boy in June of this year. This Family Birth Center was amazing. Her room prior to delivery was like a master bedroom with comfy coach for the family. The bath tub doubled as a whirpool. It was a wonderful experience to see my great nephew born!

The best experience  5 Star Rating - World class

One cannot expect any better fom a birthing experience at Mills Peninsula Hospital birthing center. From the checking to the time they see you off the nurses and doctors and the staff treated me like a queen. I really felt special being a mother. Their service is excellent. the nurses checked on me every now and then. They are polite, friendly and very professional. I was there for four days and had a preemie. They were very open and easy to talk to and answered my million questions!
The labor and delivery room was extra large and the bathroom was big too. The futon was big enough for my husband who's a big built guy too. Their nursery is superlative. My daughter stayed for 4 days. they called me every time she woke up and showed me and taught me first hand how to change, feed and clothe my baby. Being a first time mom, it was excellent. They taught me very patiently about latching and breast feeding too. After I checked out, my daughter was to stay the weekend to be released by the doctors on the next Monday. they gave me a 'maternity inn" free of charge which is a room like the labor and delivery room, the only difference being they did not provide any drugs or nurses those 2 days. i could still stay there and eat from their pantry next door. My family was also extremely delighted with the hospital services. Overall, highly recommend this birth center.
