Wisconsin Humane is a killing field

by jeff k.

You are absolutely correct about WHS. They are horrible. I worked at Ozaukee Humane Society which is run by WHS. We did all our training at WHS, took our animals there for spay/neueter, and picked up new animals from them. There is no compassion involved when it comes to the their "behavior department." Its disgusting the amount of animals they kill in a day. I want to expose them so badly to the media but don't know how to really. Especialy since Fox 6 and WHS are like best buddies. Any ideas?

Wisconsin Humane Society is a money making machine

by Sam S.

This place is a rip off. I took my dog to this dump after we lost our home. We cried all the way home after we gave Wisconsin Humane Society our last $35.00 to take our dog in and find him a good home from their supposed "low-kill" shelter. When I walked in the door, I had a message on my phone that, if I didn't get back to their shelter with $75.00 to get my dog out, the Wisconsin Humane Society was going to kill my dog. I had to borrow $75.00 from my neighbors and fly back to that dump to save my poor dog who was returned to me by some doughnut eating fat man behind the desk. I paid that place $110.00 for them to tell me that they were going to kill my dog, My dog had not one thing wrong with him. His only problem was that we lost our home. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. THEY PULL THIS ON PEOPLE ALL OF THE TIME WHICH IS WHY THEY HAVE OVER $7,000,000.00 (THAT'S RIGHT) $7 MIL. IN STOCKS, BONDS, CDS AND CASH.

Putting Animals To Sleep

by Breanna W.

How could you? Putting animals to sleep is really mean. You are losing money because what if somebody wanted that dog? Well there goes your money down the drain. Just expand the humane-society. Animals have feelings too.

Really caring

by Anonymous

I adopted my cat from here and they are very nice people. They have nice size cages for there animals. They have toys, blankets, and beds in the rooms for the animals. They have a nice adoption policy. I like that for cats if they are 2 or older they are free! It was nice to be able to get a cat that day and we were able to take him home with us that evening. They worked well with me to get him adopted that night even though they were closing. They gave me a lot of free stuff including a free vet visit and they are gave me food and litter they had been using for him. That was nice that note everything is his life was changing! My cat is doing great!

My Dog Ginger

by Susan L. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 8,582

I would like to compliment the people at the Wisconsin Humane Society. My daughter and I went there several years ago to adopt a Jack Russel Terrier. She was an abused 3 year old dog who was looking for a second chance. This dog is the most loving dog I ever had. Whatever they do, these dogs are great.

Great organization

by Steve T. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 9,474

I got my cat through this organization a few years ago, and I had a great experience. They made the process easy, and the person I worked with was very friendly. They make sure all their animals are spade or neutered and they even give you your first vet visit free. The humane society has a good repuation in Milwaukee, and I know why. I would definitely go through them again.

Great organization.

by Holly D. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 11,017

If you're looking for a pet, look here first! They have lots of great, friendly pets (cats, dogs, rabbits, birds, gerbils, rats, etc) that need good homes. I have adopted a total of 4 cats from this center and they've all been great additions to my house. They also have a great wildlife rehab center so if you find an injured animal you can always take it here!

PROS: Great for adopting pets, good staff, wonderful animals
CONS: none.

Nice for the lost to have a place to go...

by Crystal G. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,405

... but I wish there were plans for after hours care. We had a lost puppy we just couldn't keep. We had him Friday evening, and decided to take him to the Humane Society on Sunday while we were going to drive past there. They were closed. I called the emergency number, but that place was closed, too. I had to take him to the police station until the Humane Society opened!

PROS: great care of the homeless animals among us

Looking to adopt? Start here!

by M D. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,899

The Humane Society is a great place to find a forever friend to take home with you. The selections of animals is great. (too bad it's in that kind of situation) When they take their animals in, they do everything they can to accomodate them and make their stay a good one. They also treat them great and try to find the best people for the animals to go home with. The staff is really great and helpful. They won't let you make the wrong decision when choosing an animal because you can take all the time you need to decide and play with it before leaving. You can even hold an animal to make sure it's the one you've been looking for. Adoption fees are reasonable and the hours are great.

They care about there work, they helped me find a home for a pet I cared about

by mike p. | insider Insider | Rank: 14,861

I had a dog that I was suppose to watch for a month. They never came back. I had lots of people that would have taken it but no one I would have let have this animal that became part of the family and I already had a dog myself and can not take care of another. They had a list of people looking for this type of dog (chiwawa) . They made me feel comfortable that he was going to a good home. They also gave my dog its shots and chip. They treated her as if it was there own.

PROS: Staff was great! prices were listed and fair
CONS: They need a cafeteria :)

Pets that need a good home.

by Krista R. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 360

I am so thankful for the WHS.
And they have a nice gift store inside.

Cats that are over a year old are free for adoption.
All other animals have a fee.

PLEASE take the FREE month of insurance that is offered for the newly adopted pet.

We adopted one of dogs from here. Do NOT believe everything they tell you.

We were told that the dog we brought home was only 4 years old, in reality he was 11. Which does not make a difference to us, we just wanted an animal to love.

Adoption Fees & Benefits

Type of Animal *General
Fee
Puppies (5 months and younger) $150.00
Dogs (over 5 months) $125.00
Cat (1 year and over) No fee
Kitten (5-11 months) $85.00
Kitten (under 5 months) $100.00
Rabbit $15.00
Guinea Pigs $5.00
Gerbils & Hamsters $2.00
* Please add 5.6% sales tax to all fees listed above.
*Senior citizens will receive a 5% discount on Animal Antics' merchandise on the day of adoption.

PROS:
CONS: fees are high. lines are long.
