I was in the mood for a good burger and fries, well how can you mess up a burger.. It happened Saturday night. Not once but twice I asked for a burger without mayo and onions well the first time it was raw so i sent it back well the second

The Tavern On The Summit is one of our favorite restaurants. I noticed zosoboy gave the impression that the chicken fingers were frozed and nothing was fresh. That is not so...The chicken dishes, especially the chicken finger plate or basket (served with their prepared from scratch honey mustard) is the best in Birmingham. It is prepared from fresh brined chicken, brined daily. NO FROZEN CHICKEN FINGERS LIKE MOST RESTAURANTS! Also, on their lunch menu (served until 4 pm) they have a Chicken Salad Club made from their fresh chicken - which again is the best in Birmingham. I normally am not a big chicken eater, but most of the time I order this dish.
Also, their hamburgers are prepared from fresh ground meat (not "ground beef" that is purchased from the store) and really are better than most.
I used to only get the Hamburgers until someone said you have to try their Chicken Salad Club...now I am hooked.
I do like bread served before the meal and wish The Tavern on the Summit did serve bread before the the meal, but they don't.
If you are a hot tea drinker do not expect more than 2 cups of tea without being charged for another tea. This, I think is more dependent on who you get as a waiter. I had to tell one of the waiters I would not pay AGAIN for another cup of Hot Tea after having 2 cups and talked to the manager on duty and the second charge was removed...BUT...THE FOOD IS SO GOOD I WILL NOT STOP EATING THERE FOR THIS ONE MISTAKE!
As far as prices...the quality of their food for the price they charge is not bad. Most lunches are under $10 and I am a BIG man and have NEVER left this restaruant hungry. I do know their baked potatos are not as large as I would like, but if you order fries you get PLENTY!
If you are going to this NICE restaruant to try and pick up girls...you are going for the wrong reason. If you want to go to a sleazy bar...this is NOT the place for that...there are many sleazy bars in Birmingham to choose from.

Pros: All chicken dishes are from fresh brined chicken

Cons: most tables are bolted to floor, not suited well - lg groups

.

This is the worst value ever. Its great if you like to be ignored , spoke to in a condescending manner, and like to spend alot of money for chicken fingers frozen fries . Nothing is fresh and they even have the gale to say the cobbler is fresh but in reality its a frozen grocery store brand. The owner speaks to you as if you work for him which if you are ever employed by these people you will be treated very badly so im told. All in all i wil tell everyone i see that this place i a big rip off.

Pros: good looking waitor

Cons: owners are pretentious staff is rude food just so so

Looks nice inside
Good location
Dress code- casual dressy
attitude- pretentious
service- just as good as Long Horns or any chain-nothing to write about.
Prices- self glorified for what is actually served. Too high. Need more sides or quantity would help. In these days of our economy, everyone is looking for the deal or not dining like they used to. Restaurants are having to offer more incentives or throw in a salad or something. The Tavern still thinks its 2004 and should not play this game. The attitude shows in the menu pricing, quantity, and service.

Yeah, the Tavern on the Summit is awesome! I personally love their salads and soups - delicious. But, I guess I'm out of the loop though. What happened in 2008?

I love the chicken salad the chicken salad salad, the chicken salad melt and the chiken salad all five ways they make it. and ofcourse the chiken tenders and chicken tender basket and the chiken tender dinner. I think that it was the atmosphere that darkened the style of the resturaunt

I went to tavern on the summit when I was A kid I loved it the tuna with wasabi was awesome. However, what sam fallaw allowed to go in his resturaunt in 2008 was very very unproffessional and i hope that girl gets every cent of his money.

I went to the Tavern on the summit Friday with a group of about 15. The food was good but nothing special. We asked for our checks at 6:45. Our waiter confused the checks and when we asked him to correct them he became very rude (he was on the strange side to begin with) so we asked to see the manager. While waiting for the manager (it took him 10 min) another waiter who was helping to clear our table accused one of the women in our group of trying to leave without paying. Since she had already given Rob (rude waiter #1) her money and was patiently waiting on change his accusation was upsetting. When Cody the manager finally arrived he reluctantly apologised and told us that they were both great waiters. The manager checked on our checks and brought a few people their checks back and told us our waiter was right behind him with the rest. After waiting for another 20 minutes we flagged down another waitress and asked if she could find out how much longer it was going to be. Rob the waiter soon came back and said, "You wanted me?' We asked for change and cards back he walked off. Soon the manager came back and said that he asked our waiter not to come back to our table. He then asked how much change we were supposed to get back. He made a big show of giving back some change. Two of us were still missing cards and he promised to look for them. He returned about 15 minutes later and said he had looked everywhere and they did not have our cards. He suggested we should look on our table and in our stuff. He was less than friendly at this point. I assured him that I didn't have my card. He went to look again. When he returned he again accused us of having our cards. At this point we had been waiting for well over an hour and I was quite upset. I demanded my card back and told him I was not leaving until I got it. After another long wait he returned with our cards. He made a big show out of refunding our money. Then he told me he would understand if I never came back. It was now 8:35. They have yet to refund my money.

I went with a group of around 15 for dinner here. The food was good but nothing special. Our waiter confused the checks and when we asked him to correct them he became very rude so we asked to see the manager. Since she had already paid Rob (rude waiter #1) and had been waiting for change for around 10 minutes we were a little upset. When Cody the manager finally arrived we had plenty to complain about. He apologized reluctantly and told us that our waiter was very good. He checked on our waiter and brought back change for three of our party. He told us that our waiter would be right back with the rest of our change. After waiting another 20 minutes we asked how much longer. Rob the waiter came back to our table and said "What do you want?" We asked for our change. He asked how much change we were supposed to get then walked off. The manager came back out and gave a couple of people change he wasn't sure of the exact amount of change so he estimated. They still had not brought back my debit card and another persons credit card. He said he had not seen our cards but would look. He returned 15 minutes later and said that he had looked every where and they did not have our cards. He told us to check our table and our bags to see if we had them. I told him the waiter had taken my card and I wanted it back. He promised to check agin. When he returned he assured me he had looked everywhere and that they did not have my card. He was quite short. At this point it had been well over an hour since we had asked for the check and I was very upset. I demanded my card and told him that I would not leave with out it. He came returned after another 15 minutes with our cards. He maid a big production about giving the two of us whose cards they lost our meals free. He then told me he would understand if I never came back.

Order wine & steak, came with salad and baked potato. Quality average, ok. Problem is......NO BREAD was served with the meal. Asked manager why no bread and learned that "complimentary bread is not provided with meals." Inasmuch as bread IS a staple with meat and potatoes, we asked why bread was excluded and received the following answer: "Me and my partners decided not to offer it." Well, that certainly answered my question in full. Manager was abrupt and obviously unaware that bread IS A STAPLE with full meat and vegetable meals. The city is full of good restaurants that know this. My wife and I eat out 4 to 5 nights per week and love the many breads available at the many good restaurants. We will never eat at the Tavern again. The manager should eat out more often.

The food is really very good. I've been told their salads are all great, but I'm not much on salad. I am big on steak, though, and Tavern's is really good. I was surprised by the fries you can order with it - they were true shoestring fries, extremely thin, and had a very good seasoning salt (though they could've stood to put a bit more on there!). The service is okay, but I usually go midafternoon on Saturdays, when they only have one or two waiters for their whole dining area, and I usually eat outside (highly recommended if it's warm/cool enough!), so I suppose it could just be me. The lighting is almost too dim, but that's nice for dinner.

This is such an addictive place! Everything on their menu is great but my favorite is the grilled chicken sandwich with fries followed by the brownie sundae. Portions are massive so I recommend splitting with a friend. Ask for a booth-they are way more comfy than the tables.

The Tavern on The Summit in Birmingham has a great traditional American menu. They offer salds, sandwiches, seafood, and steaks. You can choose to dine outside with a live pianoist or inside seated in the large booths. The staff is always friendly and the enviorment is very laid back. They are open seven days a week for lunch and dinner.

This spot is both restaurant and piano bar. If you are looking for a moderately-priced, great place to eat...you have found it. The food is wonderful and it is a great place to take a date. The lighting is dim, and the tables are spaced for private conversation. I recommend the spinach dip and the tavern salad!

Although the bar has a nice woodsy dark atmosphere-there really is nothing else to say positive about this place.
