I had gotten a recommendation to go to fringe from someone at an event when i complemented her hair. It would have been easier for me to go somewhere closer to where I live because then I could go on a weekend rather than shoehorning it in after work on a weekday (it's about 8 mins from my work). I am SO glad I went there instead of anywhere else. The stylist, Angie, was very knowledgeable and very nice, despite not feeling well and being stuck alone with me for 2 hours on a Friday night. I walked in with a sketch of a funky and somewhat bizarre haircut that I wanted and Angie knew exactly what I wanted and what to do. The haircut itself only took about 30 mins. Other places I've been have taken much longer than that for much less difficult cuts. Having been to different hairstylists, I know of couple of things to look for during the course of the haircut to tell if someone is a good stylist or not, and Angie did them all well. The main reason I chose fringe is because the person who recommended them had turquoise hair and I wanted some funky colors. Most salons do not keep colors like pink, purple and turquoise on hand, but they do. Even though I have very dark hair, it was no problem for me to get the look I wanted. The environment at fringe is great, too. They have very eclectic decorations inside, the receptionist was a sweetheart, and i loved the indie rock they were playing. As Far as price goes, Fringe actually cost more than I am used to, but I have almost always gone to a family friend or a place like Head Start. I absolutely think the extra money was worth it, however. I got exactly what I wanted, and it was nice to work with a stylist who was more like me than my mom or grandmother. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone, but I would especially recommend it to those who don't want "run of the mill" styles.

Thank you for all the wonderful comments. I have so enjoyed working with the fabulous folks at Fringe! Chris Presley (co -owner), Barbara Mason, and I have worked together for more than 8 years and have all been in the business for more than 10. A year and a half ago the three of us moved down to Fringe and decided to call it home. The salon has recently been revamped and we've added one more to our team, Mrs. Laura Eason, a fabulous make-up artist with 10+ years experience who will be available at the salon or on location for special events, lessons, day and night wear applications. Of course you know we cut a good head of hair, but we also specialize in color correction, highlighting and glosses. We offer facial and brow waxing and treatments for damaged hair. We're open Tues and Thurs 9-7, Wed and Fri 9-5. and Sat 9-2. Call for ahead for an appointment! I look forward to meeting you. Proud new co-owner, Diana Baker

After a number of years with the same stylist, I found myself having to look for someone new to cut my hair. I tried some of the bigger names and was frankly unimpressed. As I bemoaned this with colleagues, I was fortunate enough to receive a recommendation to try Fringe. I've now settled in with someone who does a great and consistent job with my hair. If you're looking for a high quality, professional service (don't get that one strange meth redneck comment) I'd suggest that you give these folks a try.

I recently moved to Birmingham and went to Fringe to get my hair done...I was very impressed by the warm, friendly staff (and the best shampoo techs in the business!). I have already recommended Fringe to several friends, and will continue to do so...oh, and I didn't hear any of the stylists describe themselves as "meth-addicted rednecks". :)

If you don't mind dealing with self-described rednecks with a meth problem, then Fringe may indeed be the salon for you! I've spoken to more than one person who never went back due to the stylist's behavior.

I have been going to Huntsville to get my hair done, I had used a stylist in Cullman at one time and had lost him. I heard he was at the Fringe in Birmingham. I decided to check it out. There he was. I have never had a stylist as knowledgeable as Jason is. I feel like a Queen when he does my color and cuts. He knows what he is doing and is always open and honest with me as to what looks the best on me. He is also the first person that has ever did my hair blonde and I do mean a platnium blonde that was a true plat. blonde. I highly recommend him to anyone that will try him. He is FANTASTIC to say the least. I will always use him for all my cuts and colors from here on out and will tell all my friends about him.
PROS: precise
CONS: none

I recently heard about Fringe via word of mouth and decided to make an appointment. Upon calling i got connected with a stylist by the name of Jason and decided to try him out. When I got there I was taken to the back and shampooed by Bj. She gives the best scalp massages that I have ever received. Afterwards, I went to Jasons station. He was professional, knowledgeable, and helped me decide on a cut that would better fit my facial structure. I left that having a great experience and a great hair cut. I would definitely recommend Fringe to anyone looking for a great hair cutting experience.

A great and personable experience was my experience at Fringe. My appointment was set up with Jason and his knowledge was exceptional. I was vague in my explanation of what I wanted but he knew exactly what I was talking about and I left feeling like a million bucks. One of my pet peeves is being on time, I arrived 10 minutes early and Jason was finishing up his current client and was right on time with my appointment as scheduled, this was very important to me since I have such a busy schedule to follow. BJ followed up with a shampoo and scalp massage that was out of this world. My color was the best I have ever had, perfect match to what I was looking for and has not faded like what I have gotten at other salons. I recommend Fringe and Jason over anyone in town.
PROS: Timely, Courteous, Affordable and Lots of Fun
CONS: None

I have grew up in the Birmingham area all my life and don't know how I have lived this long without Fringe Salon. I got tired of trying so many different salons so I decided to look online. This is the best decision I have ever made to try Fringe. I did not know who to ask for so the lady booked my appointment with Jason who she said was new there. I was not excited about seeing someone new but I thought what did I have to loose, right? Jason greeted me with open arms and made me feel right at home. Come to find out he was not new to hair just new to this particular salon. Jason gave me the best color and high lite I have ever had not to mention the cut. I walked out the door feeling like a world class model, I couldn't stop looking in the mirror. All of my friends could not believe the wonderful change. I can't rave enough about Fringe and of course recommend a better person than Jason to do your hair. Jim made me feel right at home with his southern hospitality and down home humor AND the shampoo assistant, BJ, is worth her weight in gold. I have finally found where I belong, HOME at Fringe!
PROS: Friendly, Fun, Experienced, Wonderful
CONS: I cant carry BJ home with me

I moved to Birmingham a few months ago. I used to get my hair styled in a salon in Huntsville. When I moved I found Fringe. Jason has done my hair ever since. I have never had so many compliments on my hair before. I also have to say that I love the way BJ shampoos my hair. I really enjoy the atmosphere at Fringe.
PROS: Atmosphere, stylists, conversation
CONS: none

I have been living in Birmingham for 6 years now, and this is the first hair salon were I get treated so nicely. Jim and Jason are very nice, I felt like I was having a haircut with two good old friends. I have to admit I was nervous when I was getting my color ,haircut, and style. But, That all went away after my haircut and color were done, I am pleased.

I'd lived in Birmingham for about a year when I finally found Jim. Tired of driving back to Atlanta to see my stylist, I had tried four or five salons at varying price points in Birmingham with no luck. A friend recommended Jim and I was thrilled!! Finally a great cut, color and style at a decent price--AND a place with some personality!! Fringe is very relaxed and hip, having my hair cut is like visiting with friends. I love the way everyone knows each other, it's an incredibly energetic and fun place, not to mention BJ gives the greatest head massage ever. Plus, everyone at Fringe wants to help you look your best--they're honest about what styles work best with your hair and your features and won't give you a color or style that's totally wrong for you just because it's cute on someone else!. My husband and I have both been going there for more than two years and couldn't be more pleased. Thanks ya'll!!

I have been going to Fringe for about two years and it is by far the best salon I have ever used. Their prices are very reasonable and the their services are very professional. What I like is that all of the stylists really listen to their clients so that I am always extremely satisfied with their services. I also enjoy the atmosphere of the salon where everyone knows you by first name. I also enjoy the shampoo massage and would recommend Fringe to anyone who wants a great stylist at very reasonable prices.

I have been having my hair done at Fringe for 3+ years. My criteria for a worldclass hairstylist is one that does a professional job and provides excellent ambiance. Fringe is the place. Their staff is highly professional and more importantly they are just top notch quality people who care about their clients. I live in both Dallas and Birmingham, and specifically arrange my travel schedule around my hair appointments in B'ham. Does that not say it all?

I guess it's because I'm a guy, but the prices they charge here are just too much for hair. It's not impossible to drop 200 dollars here in one visit. But I have to admit: they know what they're doing. Anyone can walk in here and walk out hip and beautiful. I recommend all of their stylists. Make an appointment as soon as you can if you need to get your hair done.

If you don't like spending too much money for a good hair style, then don't go to Fringe. But if you're willing to open your wallet just a little wider, it's a very good place to go. The stylists are very personable and friendly, and they actually listen to you when you tell them what you would like done to your hair. If you want to be treated like first class, go to Fringe.
PROS: friendly stylists, good location
CONS: expensive

Fringe is a fun place to go to get your hair cut, and styled. Staff know you by name and they treat you very special. My very favorite is getting my hair shampooed and massaged. I would pay a lot for a little pampering.

Fringe is an awesome hair salon. Very talented stylists who really listen to their clients. You can not go wrong choosing this salon. The shampoo lady is the best you could find anywhere!! They sell salon products. Extended evening hours and Saturday hours as well. I will not trust my hair to any other salon!
