Best of the Best

by bobby j.

Santa Fe Day Spa has the best service providers. They are always making sure you are taking care of. They try so hard to make you feel special and glad you are there. Never have I felt uncomfortable or out of place everyone ask if I would like a drink or if I have been taken care of.

Very Happy with my stylist, Becca Henderson!

by Julie D.

I have been going to Santa Fe for almost 2 years, always to Becca, for my cuts and colors. She has never once let me down, each time better than the last. She always tells me what products she uses on my hair and also shows me how to style it when I get home so that I may have the same experience at home. I wouldn't dream of anyone else touching my hair!! If I could say the same for the front counter staff.... I am rarely greeted, usually ignored until Becca sees me and comes around to get me and when I am left sitting right in front of them, they just look down at me like I shouldn't even be there.

Usually enjoy- not anymore

by Tiffiany A.

I have been a regular of Santa Fe Day Spa for a few years now. I would have continued service there, if it hadent been for the unprofessionalism, miscommunication, and un sympathetic staff. my husband called 2 weeks before and booked me an appt. with my regular therapist. I called 2 days before to confirm I was requesting someone for my massage. when i arrived i waited 20 minutes to be serviced and then someone named Katie came and said "Im doing your massage", and i said excuse me i requested someone. then she proceed to walk away and "tell management". then they came to regretfully the person who scheduled my appointment (who just so happened to be the mananger) forgot to notate it in the system so i was left with the choice of getting a massage by someone new or continuing to wait. so you decide is Santa Fe worth the money? not to me anymore... not only was i not shown any regret but i was not offered any type of discount either.

The Worst

by Cindy L.

Nail Tech was running 25 mins behind schedule ,she was running her mouth and made no apologizes for being late. The other one my daughter had spent the whole time talking about partying the night before and her sex life. Don't waste your TIME!

Santa Fe Day Spa will ROB YOU BLIND -do not take a chance!!!

by susan p.

I came there to get my acrylic nails taken off, the woman (a blonde older woman-middle aged) was rude and snotty to me. Instead of just soaking the nails off in acetone, she wraps them in tin foil that has a acetone soaked cotten ball inside (this takes longer), so she asks me if I want another service while I wait; I went for a pedicure, because I picked a different color for my feet & hands, she gave me an attitude like that's uncouth. She made fun of me when she saw my feet (remarking how I needed it), even after I told her this was my first trip out since having my baby. Those cotton balls wrapped in tin foil kept sliding off, and she got mean about it, scolding me not to move. When it came to paying up, she turned on her smile, I was so in shock that I didn't realize till I was driving away that they overcharged me by $55 ! I called them, the receptionist sounded like she didn't care one way or another, she tried to set me up w/ spa credit, I refused that; and that charge never went back to my card. I tried calling for a manager, but they always say they'll call you back -but they never do. I live an hour away, and I have a baby, but if I had the time, I would go in and demand to speak w/ a manager.

I have real issues w/ this place cause they try to keep the break down of the prices away from you, and if you tell them a certain percentage to add for tip, they will add the service you got "plus" the products you bought there. Because they don't provide receipts w/ price breakdowns, you leave thinking, "thats kinda high", then you realize that they did not listen when you asked them to NOT ADD THE PRICE OF THE PRODUCTS I"M BUYING W/ THE SERVICE THEN CALCULATE A PERCENTAGE TIP.

Also, there are a lot of ditzy types working in the hair salon there, they are not very personable, they seem very into themselves, more then their clients; they don't try to make an effort to keep you wanting to come back.

IF you read this, please don't go to this spa, I have had so much better experiences at Green House Spa instead, trust me, SFDS needs to be reported to the BBB.

Response to earlier post regarding Heather

by christie w.

Heather is my stylist and I am shocked to read the review by the one lady that apparently had a bad experience. My hair, when I first started going to Heather, was very badly damaged and she has been able to repair it and get it looking so amazing! She is highly trained by Redken and has also taught at a Redken school. My color always looks amazing and my cut is wonderful! I am just appalled that someone would post something so mean about her. If you are looking for FREE services like that lady obviously is, Santa Fe is not where you need to go because they actually employ people who know what they are doing. Heather, if you read any of this, please do not worry about that lady....you are fabulous and you know it!

Also, in response to her comment about her wearing tacky clothes, she is pregnant and she cant wear the same cute clothes that non pregnant people can. But I have never seen her look unprofessional!

Stop bashing because youre angry. I love this spa

by C B.

Grow up and stop pointing fingers because you didn't like your haircut. And I have never heard of a place that flat ironed your hair free of charge. I loved my experiance at Santa Fe. I moved here from Houston Texas back in Jan 08 to get married. I am VERY picky about my hair cut because I have always had very long hair. It took me forever to find a place but I was finally recomended to this spa, and had one of the best hair cuts ever...Her name was Robin, by the way. She was young and beautiful and cut my hair perfectly. She talked to me the entire time so it wasnt boring. She was awsom. I wasnt even too specific on details of how I wanted my haircut. I was brief and told her to just make is look nice with the shape of my face and she did. My fiance (now husband) told me non stop how sexy my new hair cut made me look...Oh that reminds me....I need to call and set up another appointment.

Terrible Hair Stylist--HEATHER!!!! Stay AWAY!!!!!

by Anonymous

I feel like I HAVE to write this to let everyone know to STAY AWAY from Santa Fe. I went there about month ago on a Saturday around 12 noon as a walk in. I didnt ask for anyone in particular and they right away walked me over to a sloppy appearanced girl named HEATHER. This was my hair stylist? Great, I thought. Her hair was parted into pig tails and looked like tacky. That right there is a pet peeve of mine b/c if the stylist's own hair looks terrible than I dont have much confidence that they will make mine look great. Also, her clothes were quite unappealing looking...another red flag to me. Also, she barely even tried to talk to me and I noticed that none of the other stylists even paid her any attention...another flag. I talked to her about what I was wanting and looked through several magazines to point out pictures and tell her what I dont like also. We decided to do a angled bob and a highlight. She never mentioned prices to me. She was washing my hair and all of a sudden I smelled something really good. I asked "that smells good what is that?" She replied that it was some type of conditioner. She didnt mention anything else. She asked me if I wanted it flat ironed? I said "sure" b/c I had always had stylists at other salons do this. Again, no talk of price was mentioned. My hair style was nothing great to look at while I was there but it wasnt terrible.... until 2 days later when I washed it and tried to style it myself and it looked like garbage!!!! It was completely uneven and Ive had bobs before that were awesome but this one was very poorly cut. My color was also "copper" colored I was told my friends. It was not flattering. I was so upset I had to go call another salon in town and pay another $40-50 to have my cut done again and done right this time. And it was too soon to get another coloring session done. Even the stylist at the new salon talked about how poorly the cut and color was done. I had several friends tell me it looked bad.

Heather-hair stylist is a thief! She con'd my money,haircut/color was bad!

by Anonymous

Heather rang up the ticket and she never showed me a receipt with the breakdown of the prices of the services and said "oh, that will be $300+"..I said "well, how much of that is for the products Im buying?" She said "oh, you want to know that?" Well, of course! I'm not gonna tip you off the cost of product.how rude! She said "$221" still without showing me a receipt. So I paid the $221 with the 15% tip of $33 and when she gave me the receipt I noticed something. She charged me $25 for the good smelling "conditioner" that I didnt ask for! Also, she charged me $15 for flat ironing my hair..she never told me I would be charged for that! When I talked to her, she said "well, ive been trained by Redken and this is what we do to make sure the color lasts!". I stupidly accepted it and left. I got home and got mad! I called several times to speak to mgmt but they had Heather call me instead! She was very aloof to me said I could come back in for a "store credit"..are you kidding me? I asked for the money to be put back on my card. After almost 2 weeks and speaking to the "owner-Gail" who could of cared less about what I had to say and didnt call me back when she said she would...I finally got the refund. I even had to ask Heather for the refund of the tip I gave her for the conditioner and flat iron that I shouldnt have paid for. She gave me back $3, which wasnt even 15%! She did not refund the flat iron price either. I had even gone up there 2-3 times and was always told that "the managers are all gone for the day"..ya right! I was so mad about all this, that I returned all of the products I bought also. I dont want to have a dang thing to ever do with them ever again and I will tell everyone I know not to.

Certainly not the best day spa

by Eve B.

I have been to several day spa's in Birmingham as well as other cities. I went for a half-day and found it appalling that the "guest" isn't lead through a peaceful coridor in the back...No...I was lead right by the front doors in a robe while being galked at by a few young boys. I went on Christmas Eve which was chilly and I froze in the waiting area that is right next to the windows. They have a small fireplace but it wasn't even on...why even have it?!? My massage was up first (it was horrible) and a punk-rock chick with 6 different colors in her hair was my masseuse. I'm not one to judge but come on...the staff needs a little lesson in grooming and appearance. While there, I noticed that most of the staff ran around gossiping and bitching right in front of everyone...not peaceful at all.To top it all off the hot tub was broken.

Now for the good: I had a sandwhich and fresh fruit that was AMAZING...I guess that's the.only thing I enjoyed.

I will NEVER go back...such a shame since I live 5 minutes from there.

Highly Recommended/Best in Birmingham!

by Patti S.

I have visited many spas in the southeast due to my work travels. Upon arrival at Santa Fe Day Spa I was greeted by a warm and friendly front desk staff. I had a full day of treatments and found it to be of the best and most relaxing I have ever indulged in. I was escorted from treatment to treatment and there was never a question as to where I would be next. I was pleasantly surprised that champagne and wine were among my complimentary amenities! I usually do not write reviews for anything but this spa deserves it! HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

by h. c.

honestly, i am making this post because i have been a patron of Santa Fe for almost 2 years now? i only choose to use them for particular services that some people would not receive (brazilian waxes, microdermabrasion facials and hot stone massages). i have the same therapists always - jennifer and micheal. my services have always been a positive experience for me.

HORRIBLE.

by Anonymous

I worked here. Little do most of you know, those floors in the locker rooms, they do not get mopped. The drink station is literally infested with flies. The majority of hair stylists are new. It may seem relaxing to some while you are there, but, it is a madhouse. The front desk people come and go so often because of the enviornment. So don't be surprised if your appointment is incorrectly booked. I had such a horrible experience working there that I am scared to even visit another spa within Birmingham. Just remember that wax they put on your eyebrows has been on someone elses pubic hairs.

Response from this business:

Owner Santa Fe Day Spa replied on 03/07/08
Santa Fe Day Spa receives hundreds of guests a week. A Professional cleaning service as well as on staff personnel do maintenance. Santa Fe has 13 stylists some are new and some are not. All are talented and receive on going advanced training. Yes, we do use the same wax for eyebrows as well as bikini waxes but not with the same applicators. Front Desk Receptionist can be a career but in the industry is a turn over position. Santa Fe Day Spa competes with multi chain corporations and is considered by those in the industry to be the busiest spa in Birmingham. There are some staff who work in management, front desk and who do services that also book appointments, who have been with Santa Fe 8 years. Santa Fe's service providers are some of the best paid in the city. So I am assuming who ever wrote this is one of those who did not make the cut. Santa Fe Day Spa has grown from 1 employee to 40 plus in under eight years.Obviously we are making most of our guests happy and service providers happy.

Unbelievably SAD

by Amy W.

I can honestly say I have visited the top 6 spas here in Birmingham. Most don't cut it in one form or another.I can give you a list of why this one does not in many.I found the staff up front to be untrained and unqualified to even make an appt. I found the locker room to be, shall I say "exposingly" small, for you were out for all the world to see(clients and staff) and was severly cramped. The middle of my day was ok but at the final ending of what seemed to be a total shrew of nobody knew where I was suppose to be, I found myself in the midst of the nail dept with a few women who not only were unprofessional in their words but in their dispositions. No thanks.

PAIN

by Suzanne B.

This is by far the worst spa I have been to, in Birmingham and elsewhere. Technician showed no patience, was not thorough. Will never be back, nor do I recommend this spa.

You could just drift away....

by Heather W. | insider Insider | Rank: 23,114

I believe I received the best massage of my life here!!(definately at least get an hour long one- worth the difference in price). The sauna area is very nice and private - very important for me. They offer such a range of services its like a spa, salon, and deli in one! The only negative is there are definately cheaper day spas in the area.

PROS: Great selection of services, great massages!
CONS: A little expensive

five star day spa

by Sadonna P. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,257

The Santa Fe Day Spa is one of the best spas in birmingham. They offer only the best in spa services from massage to facials. The staff is very nice and helpful. On my first visit I didnt really know what to expect or do and they helped me every step of the way. It is in a beautiful setting so you are very comfortable and relaxed. The pricing is a little higher than moderate but affordable.
