Mikato Japanese Steak House

The waitress in the sushi bar is absolutely the rudest person I have ever met. We went back a second time to give it another try and she was just as rude as the first time. She spilled water all over my husband's leg and did not even say she was sorry. The food is delicious if you can't get past the horrible service.

Me and my husband loved it. The cook we had at the grill was a lot of fun. Especially the joke he made about "Japanese Cowboy." My husband tells everybody about that. Also the food was wonderful and even had to get take outs. i recommend that place to everyone. I been there several times and will go back again. The service may not be good enough for rich people because they don't cut up the food for ya, but fine for those who used to McDonalds! Ha ha!

The cook had no showmanship at all in fact is was a race to see how fast he could cook our food, and he just plane looked mad during the whole ordeal. No egg toss which our grandsons 4 and 11 always enjoy, as well the tossing of the shrimp. Our bill usually runs about 190.00 to 300.00.. We always tip very good since we have a daughter in pre med that works at a restaurant part time. We will spread the word to all of our friends about our bad experience, we told several employees about the problem and it was, like oh well, we are sorry, maybe a better attitude would have been some comp or let me get the manger for you and find out what was wrong.. If I had wanted take out I would have went to take out.

I have been to Mikato's several times, you have to try the Bama roll (sushi) it is yummmmmmmm. I have had poor service on an occasion or two but the food is still great, I look past it. The restaurant themselves can not always help the attitude of the waitress, however I know every time I have ever had a problem, we never see that waitress again. So no matter what, give it a 2nd try if you don't like the first. I have never been disappointed in the food or the grill show.

I have been to Makato many times and I guess I am a glutten for punishment. The service is poor and the waitstaff acts like you should feel honored to have them serve you. Especially the girl that waites on you at the sushi bar. The menu is very limited. Today when we went for lunch, we wanted UDON soup. They do not serve UDON. We did not want sushi and I was not keen on the hibatchi grill. The waitress was pissed that we were not ordering $40 worth of sushi. I have gotten better sushi at Fresh Market on Airport. Please drive the extra 20 minutes and go to Daruma in Daphne or Toyko in Fairhope. Mikato makes me feel used!

The Mikato first caught my eye because it was named after a famous Gilbert & Sulivan musical, "The Mikato." After my first visit, I was enchanted by it. All of the wait staff are in kimonos and the atmosphere is very elegant. It has both a sushi bar and hibachi grills. The hibachi chefs are a lot of fun and very generous with their food. The price is what I've come to accept as normal for Japanese food, about $10-20 a person depending on what you order. The sushi bar is nice too, although a bit small. They have some creative types of sushi; too many choices to cover in one night. For special occasions I love going to the Mikato.

PROS: Great tasting food with a fun atmosphere
CONS: Sometimes the waitstaff forget to refill drinks-a lot
