Dr. Ballagas is an exceptional surgeon. Our dog, Alli, had a rectal mass and would not have lived without major abdominal surgery. Dr. Ballagas was very upfront and honest with us about what the surgery would be like, recovery time, and complications that could happen while in surgery. He was also upfront with the cost of the surgery even though that wasn't much of a concern to me for my baby to be fixed. The mass came back cancerous and we are going to start chemo tomorrow. He got most if not all of the tumor but we want to make sure just in case there was a microscopic cell left behind. Alli's surgery was on August 2nd and she has healed very well since then. She was in the hospital for 5 days after surgery and his staff made me feel very welcome when I wanted to visit her and were always helpful even if it was 2AM and I was just calling to check on her. Dr. B kept us updated daily on Alli's condition and called to check on her once she was home with us. I highly recommend Dr. B and feel like I made the very best decision choosing him to be Alli's surgeon. He saved my dog's life and I will be forever grateful to him.

This place almost killed my cat! They gave her Tramadol and gave me the WRONG directions for dosing. She spent two days in intensive care at her regular vet trying to undo what this place did to her. She is now blind and has panic attacks. She was perfectly healthy except for a UTI before they saw her and now my sweet, playful, loving kitty has been replaced with a terrified feral stranger. My regular vet told me that Tramadol should NEVER be given to a cat. AVOID THIS PLACE!!

This vet took advantage of my love for my dog to perpetrate a fraud. He told me that he had seen something on the x-ray that indicated that he would die without an operation. After consulting another vet, it turns out that he operated on my dog for GAS AND INDIGESTION.

I took my beloved Benny there several years ago. We had no clue what was his problem. He had had several previous surgeries for hemaginomas at another vet off. Three weeks after his last surgery he was not doing well at all and getting weaker and weaker. I was referred to Dr. Tony Ballagas. Benny was there 2 weeks and in sad shape. I told Dr. Ballagas I was ready to let him go. Dr. B said I am not! I want to know what is wrong as the hemaginomas should not be causing this. That night he exrayed and saw something in Benny's left shoulder that looked odd. He did an asperation or something and sent it to Auburn. 5 days later it came back as cancer in theshoulder tissue. While we could not pin it directly on the hemaginomas, I do. And we do not know where else it had spread in his body. Probably many places But the care, concern and desire to identify what was taking Benny down, shown by Dr. Ballagas will always be in my mind and heart. Say what you will, I recommend this clinic and Dr. Ballagas all the time. He cared, the staff cared and were so kind every day when I came in to be with Benny., Yes, it cost me a bunch of money, but when Benny crossed the Bridge I was there and he was at peace and had been well cared for during the final 3 weeks of his precious life. Thanks to all the staff and doctors. You are forever in my heart.

Dr. Clinton Lorthrip cared for my sick cocker spaniel at this clinic, and I was impressed with his thoroughness and interest in the case. Although the bill for the consultation and resulting procedures was really steep, Dr. L. made all the right calls in diagnosing and treating the acute issues. Afterwards, he called me regularly to check on my dog's condition, answer my questions, and suggest other treatments. I truly felt that he cared. He worked really well with my regular vet at Kidd Animal Clinic and between the two of them, I felt my little guy had the very best of care.

I had a horrible experience. I will NEVER EVER use or suggest ANYONE ELSE Go there either. I was lied to, mislead and Overcharged $315.00 and still had to take my dog to another vet, who helped me video, photograph and report them to the state board and redo the sloppy stitches put in by this so called Emergency Clinic. Run from this place! I wish I had googled them before I took my pet there. Their staff is beyond rude! It's fine to be expensive if you are honest about your fees and treat people and their pets like you charge them. Who wants to pay for inferior care, rudeness and trickery? Not Me! I encourage you to report them to the following agencies if you have had a bad experience so others hopefully won't be treated the same.

My dog was bitten by a snake and needed lots of treatment. She would not have lived if not for the Doctors there. She had to have blood transfusions, plasma transfusions and antivenin. I am so grateful that my dog lived. I am so happy that they were there and could take care of my baby. They are very reasonable with their prices and they offer the best care i have ever seen! If your pet is sick and your vet is not open i would tell you to go here!!!! It is great!

i recently took my 6 week old puppy here that was choking and they were the only place i could find open. the BLONDE vet (a woman) came in the room to tell me that my dog had pneumonia and she was sure of it and tried to get me to leave my puppy overnight for a small fee of 700.00. i told her to give me my puppy back. the receptionist there was rude and could have cared less about my puppy. i ended up paying 201.00 for nothing, especially the freindly service which there was none of. these people take advantage of others who love their animals and come here for help. my puppy did not have pneumonia and the only thing wrong is that she could not breathe out her nose for a little while due to congestion in it. thank goodness for the caring people at Mercy Animal Hospital. this aftercare clinic is a JOKE. i would not recommend anyone i cared for to go there and get scammed. the only thing they care about is getting in your pocketbook.

I have to disagree. I don't normally post comments, but I had to when I saw the previous negative comment. Dr. Tony Ballagas is in with Dr. James Milton, who is one of the best specialists in the nation. Dr. Ballagas has done surgery on three of my beloved pets, and all have had a wonderful recovery. He has performed tplo surgery on both legs of our Lab. Therefore, I have had four outstanding surgery experiences with Dr. Ballagas. He has never been anything short of absolute perfection in dealing with our pets and their conditions. Dr. Milton and Dr. Ballagas both have the DACVM designation. If you research the DACVM, you will understand the dedication it takes to reach this specialty status. Dr. Milton is a retired professor from Auburn University's Veterinarian School. Dr. Ballagas and Dr. Milton are both very caring and amazingly intelligent specialists. I have read your posts on other websites and unfortunately, it sounds like you, the owner, didn't realize the most humane thing for your 13 year old senior pet was to cross the rainbow bridge.

Clinton Lothrop, Internist, performed an US on my sick canine pet, misinterpreted and eventually misdiagnosed my pet with a life-threatening intestinal obstruction. He recommended exploratory surgery.

Tony Ballagas of the same hospital operated on my pet, but he found NO OBSTRUCTION! My pet died 3 days after discharge from the surgeon due to complications. The surgeon never gave me a prognosis other than bring my pet back to the hospital in 2 weeks for suture removal. He also asked me to make sure my pet ate at home because my little dog (8 lb) was not eating while hospitalized (4 days).

On the second day at home, my poor companion had a seizure caused by hypoglycemia, and I rushed him to the local (Huntsville) emergency hospital. The emergency vet performed NO TESTS to diagnose the cause of the seizure. Shortly after I brought my pet home, he became lifeless and rushed him again to a regular vet hospital. Although the vet at this hospital did her best to revive him (my pet became comatose on the way), he died an agonizing death.

They all failed to diagnose Addison's disease--that was my pet's cause of symptoms and eventually his death based on his medical records and last hematology and chemistry tests. The vets at this hospital believed that all the symptoms, radiographic and US readings were caused by an intestinal obstruction.

Out of state veterinarians and a prominent professor were competent enough to identify my pet's cause of death.

The vets. here are excellent and the facilities are first class. I've had to take my animals there on a couple of occassions (they seem to prefer to have major injuries or illnesses on holidays) and have consistently received high quality care. A warning: the care they provide is as expensive as it is good.
