For general health issues and annual checkups and shots we take our menagerie to Park Hill Vet Clinic. Dr. Emerick is our ??regular vet?? and is exceptionally good with the animals and her staff is warm and attentive. The clinic prices are very reasonable and they are also quite patient with us, the doting ??mom and dad??.

Having said that, if any of our pets have an acute health issue we take them to Hillcrest Animal Hospital - emphasis on the word ??hospital?. The veterinary staff at Hillcrest Animal Hospital provides a comprehensive range of knowledge and skills. The office and support staff could not be any more helpful and attentive. They all seem to develop an individual relationship with the assortment of creatures presented to them for care. Among other awards and experience Dr. Larry Nafe is an Arkansas board certified Internist & Neurologist, the 2006 Arkansas Veterinarian of the Year and Summa cum laude graduate from the University of Missouri??s School of Veterinary Medicine. Impressive.

My husband and I feel utterly confident in Dr Larry Nafe and his staff with the wellbeing of our pets.
You should certainly check out the website which provides information on the staff??s background and education.

Best group of vets anywhere. As a nurse I know that sometimes a heart must be auscultated under very noisy conditions. The earlier comment underestimates the power of experience.

One of the vets here is the only internal medicine specialist in Arkansas and for that reason I drove 200 miles to take my 2 young Newfoundlands for heart exams to assess their suitability for breeding. The breed is prone to a genetic heart condition and I felt the extra effort and expense of a specialist was justified to gain the assurance that my dogs were free of the condition and would not, therefore pass it on to their offspring. The exam was by auscultation (listening to the heart) which requires a quiet and calm setting. In this instance however, rather than examining my dogs individually, both of my dogs (weighing over 100 lbs each) , along with my wife, the vet and myself, were taken together into a tiny exam room barely big enough for one large dog, let alone all of us. The exam table was too small for my dogs so they were examined on the floor. Auscultation is subtle and can be challenging. Simply the noise from the panting of the dog can mask murmurs. In this case, my dogs were hot and cramped, on the floor, and not only was one dog panting, there were 2! After a quick, rather cursory exam, they were pronounced sound and we were dismissed. To add injury to insult, I was still charged for 2 examinations. Total cost for a 15-minute check with a stethoscope: $210 (plus another $240 for fecal exams and shots!). I would not be complaining had this been a more thorough exam under proper circumstances but, even though my dogs "passed", I still wonder if I know any more about the condition of their hearts than before I arrived. I certainly did not get the assurance I had hoped for. I feel the service at Hillcrest Animal Hospital was extremely unprofessional and in the future I will go elsewhere, even if it means traveling to another state. I urge others, with dogs needing more than worming and vaccinations, to do the same (and you'd better have deep pockets even for that). The health of our dogs and the future of our breeds deserve better.

Conveniently located in the middle of Hillcrest, right next door to US Pizza, the HIllcrest Animal Hospital has friendly, helpful staff that provide wonderful customer service. While they are busy, they can nearly always get you scheduled to come in on the same day and are very happy to accomodate any needs you may have, as far as when you drop your pet off and pick them up, etc. If you have your hands full, they offer to help you out to your car (a big plus if you're toting kids as well as pets!). If you're looking for a vet who is professional, friendly, yet easy to get into, consider the Hillcrest Animal Hospital.
