When life involves you & your pet in an emergency..

by Bev L.

My apartment complex treated the yard with a poison to kill locusts. I did not know this or my dog would never have entered this area. Kirby was fine and then he was not. His hair around his neck began to fall out in clumps. I bathed him and large amounts of hair clogged the drain. Kirby was having heart palpitations, shaking, lethargic, & semi-responsive. I was fearful of the answers to come at the clinic. My brother in TX knew a veterinarian at the clinic. Calls were made and Kirby was in transit to Lonoke Animal Hospital. Dr. Steve Nelson had advised the staff that we were coming. Kirby was immediately taken back to the exam room. Dr. Nelson examined Kirby and said he had been had been poisoned. He did not have any time to spare. While he began the treatment, I called to find out what had been in the yard. (My first thought was someone had poisoned him intentionally.) The manager did not know what they used. Dr. Nelson advised us that notice had to be given to tenants in case of this very thing happening. They offered nothing.Dr. Nelson assumed the choice of treatment, & I was relieved. I do not remember the exact name or amounts of his treatment, but I do know that Dr. Nelson would not give up. Kirby had several shots. Each time Dr. Nelson told me everything and why. We prayed for the outcome. He stabilized Kirby (after quite a long time for Kirby to react). I can not tell you the joy in everyone involved. Dr. Nelson and his staff saved my dog (and me). His knowledge and dedication were exemplary. He advised us on what to feed Kirby for several days, antibiotics, & signs & symptoms of possible problems.Today Kirby is his healthy, happy, people loving self. He is loved and adored by our complex. He now has everyone watching out for him. Our apartment complex is on notice to provide information about spraying or using poison in or near our complex. I think all pet owners should have notice given to them when anyone has a potentially dangerous poison in the area of animals. Would I recommend Lonoke Animal Hospital? Most assuredly, I will. The staff and the vets are concerned, loving, gentle, owner oriented as well as our pets advocates. For usual and scheduled treatments like shots & heart worm checks, they are just as kind and thorough.

Was the clinic clean? Immaculate

Are they animal lovers? The angels on earth

God bless the Lonoke Animal Hospital and the staff.

by Joyce I. | insider Insider | Rank: 18,662

The vet helpers are kind, caring and helpfull.Your pet is in good hands when they are at this hospital.I have had a cat nuetured here and have used their dipping service. The pr
ices are very reasonable and their care is beyond reproach!
They also offer grooming which is a plus for one stop care.

PROS: Good service at economical fees
CONS: none
