This is one of the worst pet stores I have ever been in!! You walk in the door and there is this poor Macaw, cage and water is filthy, it has no toys what so ever. (I have 4 birds, one of them being a Macaw, so I understand it is a lot of work to keep them clean). As you walk to toward the back there is a group of people around the counter handling a couple "hand feed quackers". You pass the counter and to the right is an "encloser" with SEVERAL rabbits in it, there was so many there was no way they had enough room to actually move around like they needed to. Do to the very back wall and there is more birds with feces piled up under their cages, and the POOR puppies, there was two group of Chihuahua/chihuahua mixes that were "BUY ONE GET ONE FREE"!!! The poor pups were on grated floors with a small area that was solid (looked to be minimum requirements by law). There was no food or water in the bowls and there was feces on the glass and stacked up under the cages. In one of the cages there was a little dachshund puppy that was walking kinda sideways and was having a hard time standing. I left after seeing the puppies. Later that night I had dinner with some friends that live in that area and they said it "use to be" a nice pet store but the owner is not as involved as he use to be and it is younger kids in there now! They said it is more of a side job for the owner now. This place needs to be shut down!!!!!!!

I bought a used light fixture for my saltwater aquarium from the owner of the Fish Bowl who assured me it worked properly. When I got it home I discovered it had been dropped and the LEDs no longer worked. When I questioned him about it he told me LEDs have no benefit to the life in a saltwater tank and he acted as though it was no big deal. My Bad! I should have known better than to buy a used fixture and should have done my homework on the importance of proper day and night lighting. It doesn't end there though. I needed to replace two of my daylight bulbs with actinic bulbs only to find he doesn't stock more than one of them at a time and the one he had was broken. That one he ordered after I called and requested it. I've been trying to get this thing for a month and all he can do is order another. No thanks! I'll go online and get it for less and it will be a Coralife. His helper tried to sell my wife a Panther Grouper knowing we only have a fifty five gallon tank and the minimum recommended tank size for this fish is 300 gallons. Obviously these people are only thinking of the sale and not the welfare of the animals or the overall satisfaction of the customers. I bought a live rock from them and for some reason it only grows hair algae and the rock itself looks like cement that has been cured and marketed as "Live Rock". Heck, he even tried to sell my wife a plastic ornament as "Live Rock". Wow!! The owner himself is usually rude and acts like he never has time to deal with me when I have questions. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy! The only reason I go there sometimes is because it is the only pet store within 100 miles of where I live.

I honestly dont think this is the worst pet store. As for buying dogs and cats- you get what you pay for. WHat do u expect- they arent specialty breeders who spend their whole lives doing this- they get animals from other breeders so that two people to go thru. A lot of breeders dont liek to give paper work to show how much of what they have in the dog to prevent others from breeding it- its controling the retail of animals.
I, myself, own a frill dragon and us the fish bowl to shop for food- the reptiles there are kept how they are anywhere else who sells reptiles on retail.
This place is fine.

Excellent source for fresh and salt water fish, living coral, pet food and supplies. This is where we have shopped for the last 9 years--I have nothing but positive to report from the customer service and staff. Regarding the review on kittens, any kitten they acquire is through people bringing them in without shots, and the animal needing a home. The owner then vaccinates them, gives them medicine for fleas and parasites, and sells them at a much reduced price to cover the expense of housing and feeding them. I know this as the owner once took in three dumped kittens our kids discovered while biking on our country roads. Jack's heart was big enough to accept kittens, even though they are not huge profit making ticket items. I would rather support an honest local business man who is long established in the community than to continue to feed the Wal-Mart giant and Sam's heirs.

This is the most terrible thing that I have ever seen in a pet store. They are selling tattooed mollies. The common tattoo method involves grabbing the fish, taking it out of water or putting it in a very shallow amount of water or a wet paper towl (easier to hold on to), NO anesthesia, and just jabbing it with a ink-filled needle repeatedly, then tossing it back in the holding tank. It's extremely cruel, the mortality rate is astronomical, and it seriously shortens the lifespan of the fish. The inks haven't been through testing like human tattoo ink, and when the cheapest inks possible are used, there's a good chance that something in it might cause cancer, tumors, reproductive damage, or just generally venomous.
Dr Peter Burgess, a fish health consultant whose work on dyed glassfish was published in Practical Fishkeeping in the 1990s, said:
"The skin of a fish is living tissue throughout. Any colouring method that damages the skin's protective surface will render fish prone to potentially life-threatening infections.
The artificial colouring by laser presumably involves restraining the fish out of water for some time and this is likely to cause further unnecessary stress. And how do we know it isn't painful?
"This practice should be condemned as being cruel and totally unnecessary. It devalues living creatures and treats them as if they were some inanimate object that can be decorated purely for whim or commercial gain. For too long, fish have been widely perceived as cold, unfeeling creatures that do not perceive pain, but we know this is far from true. This despicable practice only serves to perpetuate the myth."
After taking a quick stroll through the store the fish area was the last place that I ended up. I asked the man that was working there about them and he told me that yes.... they are really tattooed. Like that would make me want to buy one? After that I turned, walked out of the store, and will never buy anything from them. I would rather go to Wal-Mart in Cabot to buy my pet supplies or fish.

Pros: large selection

Cons: mistreatment of animals

Fish Bowl is a great place to shop or to just visit. Love it, like going to the zoo, for free. They are the only pet store in Searcy. Always a wonderful experience.

I shop at the Fish Bowl whenever I need supplies for our pet ferrett. If they do not have what we need, they will order it. Their staff is always friendly and courteous. I stop by whenever I can.

Honestly, this is the worst pet store I have ever been in. The animals cages are full of feces and flies and the animals look like they have been rolling in it. The smell is so bad I was nauseated. Today ALL of the cats and dogs water bowls were bone dry. Someone needs to help these animals.

Pros: Many of the fish were dead and out of their misery

Cons: Many of the fish were dead, cages full of feces, inhumane
