Antigone is a great place to just browse, shop for gifts or shop for yourself. They have a great selection of calendars, cards, journals, letter paper and they will make you laugh, too. The staff is friendly and helpful, too.

Sometimes I forget that Antigone's has a reputation for being a lesbian or feminist bookstore, because that's far from all they have to offer. Yes, they do specialize in those categories, but they also specialize in wonderful books overall, plus wonderful music, writing materials, cards, decorative doodads and knickknacks, and also many wonderful special events. Their monthly newsletter which is now available by email, always includes a calendar of signings, readings, meetings and contests - and a coupon or two. Anything you want and they don't have? Special orders are their specialty.

PROS: a place to linger and wander and relax and enjoy
CONS: come early or you'll be sorry when closing time arrives. Oh, and if you have younger kids, herd them to the great children's corner, or else be prepared to answer questions like "mom, what does dike humor mean?"

Antigone is a locally owned bookstore in downtown Tucson. They carry a lot of gay and lesbian support literature, but they also have a lot of good books, toys, cards and trinkets for everyone else.

Another plus: if you don't take a bag, they put the savings into a local charity.

This bookstore is located in Downtown Tucson and is an alternative bookstore. It suits the reading needs of gay & lesbian people. It features a very large selection of gay/lesbian books, but also has some mainline books as well.

The store was clean and somewhat organized. The store employees were friendly. It was a small store.
A unique experience to say the least.
