I'm honestly surprised about the bad reviews on here, though most do not seem to have much merit. We have been seeing Dr. Jones for the past few years, and he is wonderful. My 2-year-old daughter adores him and he is extremely thorough. We always book appt's for first thing in the morning or after lunch to avoid having to wait. I've never had to wait more than 24 hours to get my child in for a sick visit. The office is clean with lots of things to entertain kids in the waiting room.
Anyone who is remotely familiar with the hassles of dealing with managed care (your health insurance) would not be surprised about the $30 fee for flu shots, which is credited back to your account if and when your insurance company pays. And people complaining about a no-show fee is just ridiculous to me, especially considering THEY TELL YOU ahead of time that you wil be charged if you don't show up. Duh!

We were recommended by my doctor who delivered our daughter. We should have ran after the first appointment. They tried to get our credit card information in case our insurance did not cover charges. How convenient! They would probably bill the insurance then the credit card and we would have to fight for them the remove charges. Besides, they probably wouldn't even credit the card they would give you credit on your account! How nice of them to decide where money goes. We went to see Dr. Jones and we had mixed feelings with him. He answered our concerns, however he provided us with as little information as possible. For example, when it was time to start feeding solids he provided me with a brief meal recommendation. Failed to tell me when I should adjust to stage two and how much she should eat. Being a first time mother this would have been helpful. We decided that we would leave this Doctor and find someone else after our daughter received the flu shot. We come to find out that although our insurance fully covers all immunizations, we would still be required to pay the full amount for the flu shot. Then the office would bill the insurance company and we would receive credit and the doctors office. This was extremely irritating since we did not want to return to the office and because that was the purpose of insurance. When asked about this the office responded by saying that this is what the Doctors had decided to do and that they could not verify that the shot was covered by the insurance. However, it didn't seem to be a problem for all her other shots.Extremely dissatisfied with this office. We will not be returning.

I have been taking all three of my children to Gilbert Pediatrics for years now and love the doctors and nurse practitioners!!! They are compassionate and listen to my concerns. In addition, I feel as though I am a part of my child's health care plan. Both Dr. Carroll and Dr. Leavitt are wonderful and have a fantastic knowledge base. I recommend them to anyone wanting a great doctor... but are also willing to do their part and show up for appointments etc.

We had had some pediatricians in the past that I have not cared for. When we moved to Arizona I was worried about finding a good Ped for my 4 year old. We saw Dr Jones, and were very impressed. I have NEVER had a problem with this office. All of the staff are very nice and accommodating- from the front desk, the assistant, to the billing dept. I applaud Dr Jones for the great work he does. He spends a lot of time examining my son, even for a yearly check up. He is the first to pick up a heart murmur. He spend's even more time discussing his results with me. His wait time is reasonable. On times my son is ill and needs to be seen, they always get us in within a couple hours. I don't know about the other doc's in the office, but I am VERY happy to have found Dr. Jones.

I am LDS and Gilbert Peds came highly recommended from the ward members, specifically Dr. Auxier. While I found him to be a competent doctor, our personalities did not click. I didn't appreciate him lecturing me and the fact that he told me what to do instead of offering suggestions. Plus he spoke about the church a lot which I found to be inappropriate in that setting (he didn't know I was LDS).
They charge a fee for EVERYTHING...$7 to call for after hours advice, flu shot fees, immunization fees, everything! And this is on top of what they bill your insurance. And when you check in they make sure they get that co-pay up front or they won't see you. They also discuss your account balance right there in front of everyone which is embarrassing and unprofessional.
And the WORST part of it all...I went in recently because my kids were sick - fevers, vomiting, other nasty symptoms. My son is only 3 months old so I was VERY concerned. We didn't even see a doctor, we saw a nurse who couldn't give me a diagnosis. She wrote us some prescriptions and sent us on our way. I tried to fill the scripts at 2 different pharmacies but they were unable to since the drugs had been OFF THE MARKET FOR OVER A YEAR! What?!?!
Putting my kids in danger was the last straw. Incompetent, unprofessional, money-grubbers. AVOID!
There are so many quality pediatric practices to choose from in the east valley that no one should deal with this.

I have had only good experiences at Gilbert peds, especially at the Power Ranch office. I have never had to wait more than 15 minutes to get in for my scheduled appointment and even went there during twilight hours, in which I did have to wait but it was during flu season. Overall, the doctors I have seen have only been the best. The nurse practitioners are not as friendly or helpful, and personally I felt they were condescending. However, if I had the choice I would take seeing a doctor the next day rather than seeing a nurse practitioner that same day. Just a personal tidbit.

I think Dr. Carroll is excellent. He is very compassionate and knowledgeable. He listens to what you have to say and always explains everything very well. My daughter had a heart murmur when she was born and he made sure that she had an echocardiogram and a cardiologist read it before we left the hospital. I am a nurse myself and feel nothing but confidence in him. To everyone complaining about the long waits... Its a doctors office. They take the time to answer questions when you are in there so yes they will get behind. All doctors do. I haven't had to deal with the office staff too much yet so I can't comment on them. If you are looking for a great pediatrician, see Dr. Carroll.

Very happy with Gilbert peds. Will never see Dr. Levitt again, he missed my daughter's diagnosis and blew me off (she'd been turning blue and breathing rapidly off and on since birth), she nearly died 2wks later. Dr. Jones and Dr. Carroll have been very nice and thorough. Dr. Jones listened to my concerns about my daughter after Dr. Levitt dismissed me at our first visit, he saved her life by finding her heart defect. My child isn't your typical healthy child and I am very grateful that Dr. Jones is mindful of this in dealing with what would be minor problems in a regular child. Have only met Dr. Guthrie once and he was okay, he did fix the rash we went in for.
I work in healthcare and some of these reviews are ridiculous. A fever of 107?! Give some motrin and take your kid to the ER!! A no-show charge is easily avoidable, call and cancel your appt. instead of no-showing! You are wasting someone's time and preventing another child from being seen. And the afterhours call charge is completely understandable as well, do you know how many idiotic calls they'd get at 2am if they didn't have that charge?! Put yourself in their shoes. Can you imagine getting woken up at 2 am with a parent telling your their child has a fever of 107? What is he supposed to do for that over the phone?! Y'all have some unrealistic expectations.
We've needed to be seen ASAP a few times and they've always offered us either the same day or the next day appointment. Never had any issues with the front desk either. Never had to deal with billing. Realize that asking them to "just squeeze us in" results in longer wait times, you can't have your cake (docs on time for your appointments) and eat it too (walk in for a quick 5 min check on that 107 fever). My only issue is that wait times for appts could be shorter, but I understand that delays happen because they do squeeze in sick kids.

The doctors are amazing, so I have continued to go. But I don't know how long I will. The office staff has "forgotten to check us in" so many times--which means that as you're sitting in the waiting room, those who just arrived and have an appointment 45 minutes AFTER you are going back. Every time this has happened and I have brought it to their attention, they say sorry, but make no effort to correct the mistake. They just put you at the end of the line. The billing department people are rude and assume that if there is a problem with your account that you are trying to get out of paying. We've been going here for the past 7 years (and one of the doctors is a family friend and was MY doctor for 18 years). So when our insurance made a mistake about our deductible and refused to pay for a well-check, it surprised me how rude the lady was telling me that it would be charged to my credit card if I had not called her by the end of the week. I had just received the FIRST bill on Friday and was in the office on Monday for an appointment. She was annoyed that I had not called the insurance company YET (sure, over the weekend) to figure out the problem. The appointment was from a few months earlier, but THEY evidently took a couple of months to submit to my insurance company. So all she could think about was that the bill was more than 60 days "past due". She stood at the front desk talking loudly so that the entire office could hear. As if any of it was my fault. Whatever. I have never missed an appointment and have always taken care of any bills that have come. On the other hand, I have spent hours and hours (and hours) waiting past my appointment times. When I finally get to see the doctor, they are so wonderful that it makes me forget the mess beforehand...well, until I have to go in again!

I feel equally both ways. I understand the $30 missed appt fee, never had to pay it. I don't agree with a Dr call fee of $7. I love having my insurance nurse line to help me decide whether to bring them in or not and would be very upset if I got charged for the advice. You are on call and being paid for it. I have never had a problem with the doctors, especially Dr. Jones, but have always been denied an appt with Dr. Leavitt as he is overbooked. I hate overbooking at a doctor's office as it feels more like they are in it for money than helping kids. The nurses are fine, but office staff not so much. I always have to wait at least 45 minutes in the main waiting room and 30 or so in the tiny exam rooms, and with 4 kids, you go crazy in there. I have chosen a new pediatrician group just cause I hate the office staff and over booked doctors, but on a side note, the cash prices on stitches are very reasonable(we didn't have insurance for a time.) If you want personalized service from the whole office, probably not your thing. But good doctors and NPs.
Oh, and my cousin had a real problem with the misdiagnosing of her son's double pneumonia as asthma for weeks and he was hospitalized and nearly died. (But I'm sure misdiagnosing happens everywhere)

I am about to be a new mom & am looking for a pediatrician. Although there seem to be many negative reviews about Gilbert Peds and I don't plan to go there after reading them, I feel compelled to make a comment. Those of you griping that they are unaccommodating for not seeing your children immediately while in an emergency type situation need a REALITY CHECK! This is a doctor's office. They schedule appointments when they are AVAILABLE. If you have a 6 month old running 107 temperature you don't call the pediatrician you take them to the EMERGENCY ROOM. That is an emergency! I have several nephews & nieces and my family is very close. You can try your pediatrician but to expect them to fit you in for an emergency is ridiculous...that is what Urgent Care and the Emergency Room are designed for! Would you expect them to open up on Sunday for your 6 month old??? Come on now lets all grow up a bit.

I dont know how any one can have bad things to say about Gilbert Peds. They are great Dr.s who take the time to listen to you. Yes there is a $30 no show fee, but if you are respectful and call the day before you will not have it. There are so many many places that charge a no show fee and I think that it is a good thing. The space was blocked out specifically for you and if you do not show up then that time is waisted and some one who really needed to be seen will not be seen.As far as records go I looked it up and it is not required to a Dr's office to hold onto records from a previous Dr's office. Only to the records of the treatments that they have given. Also for the people who claim that they could not get in because of company policy that is a bunch of bull..I have called many many times and gotten in same day or it I called at the very very end of the day I got in next day. Please dont believe the made up stories of some of these people. The office is great, the Dr's are great and they go out of their way to get your child seen ASAP.

I have been going to Gilbert Ped's for 5 years now with my children and after reading these reviews. I have to say that I agree with both sides. I have had some Wonderful experiences and some awful experiences. Yes, they charge you for a no show, an after hour call, will refuse you service if you do not pay your bill, the billing department is rude and the nurse Deborah at Twilight wanted my 1 year old to get all these test that were not needed. Thank goodness that I listed to myself and asked them not to give her all these tests. I had calls the day after telling me I needed to get in. To make a long story short I finally asked to have a dr. call me and he made an excuse for the nurse. I brought my daughter back and after waiting to run all of these test the night before she had strep and an ear infection. How do you miss this??? I think Jane the Nurse who calls you back and the Doctors are all great but the extra help is awful.. I am thinking about changing to another doctor's office.

I have taken my children to Dr. Guthrie at Gilbert Pediatrics for the past 15 years and have never been disappointed. We have always been treated with respect and courtesy, even in the most trying times. I love their evening hours, Twilight Pediatrics. Several times it has saved me from taking time off work to get my children seen when they have come home from school sick.
I am sorry if some people have had bad experiences, but that is not the norm. I would and have highly recommended this practice to parents.

My husband and i just moved here from TX and a friend told us about Gilbert pediatrics. my daughter has tri care; (military insurance) she was running a 104 temp, i had a 10:00 apt. so as I'm waiting i notice new ppl coming in and getting seen before us.that wasn't the problem because they where seeing a diffrent doctor. the lady at the front was very rude to me when i asked why it was taking so long at 10:45. she rolled her eyes and said the doc was running behind. my daughter was finally seen at 11:30. i will never go back!! the ppl who work at the one off pecos are rude and seem to hate there jobs.

I just took a second to look at the reviews and couldnt believe there would be anyone that would have a bad experience at Gilbert Pediatrics. We have called in many times needing to get in right away and it has NEVER been a problem. Dr. Guthrie was our first doctor and feels like a family friend now. I do occasionally get to see Dr. Auxier and Dr. Leavitt and they are equally great. They are concerned, knowledgeable and have always given great care. I have forgotten my purse before and they just bill me. I refer everyone to them and am grateful to have such wonderful doctors to take care of my 6 children.

The most unaccommodating doctors office in AZ. You would think that a 6 month old baby with a temperature of 107 would rate one of their priorities. NOPE, their 2 hour lunch break is more important than a 5 minute check up. Here is the short story: My wife was called by day care to pick up my 6 month old due to a fever. She called the office and they refused to take her in until 6pm, the twilight hours. It was 10 am so to have an infant with a fever for 8 hours is not a good thing and could possibly lead to more serious conditions. They rated his fever as, Not serious enough to accept him at that time. She then drove down there to see if they could fit him in and they still turned her down. I called myself and attempted to see if someone could fit him in for a 5 minute check up or to at least have them write a prescription, but nope, they would not budge. It was their lunch break. I think they forgot that we are still the customer and they serve US. Needless to say they lost us as a customer and my sister is now switching with her 3 infants. I have many friends that will be soon switching and future referrals will NOT be going their way. We called Mesa Pediatrics and my 6 month old was accepted in for treatment, received his medication, and was sleeping within 3 hours of the first phone call. Mind you we were new patients and had never before attended their office. That is a real pediatric office and they actually care about their patients. MESA PEDIATRICS is the way to go!! Take my word for it.

We have 8 children and have moved quite a bit so we have LOTS of experience with Doctors. Over the past few weeks, it feels like we have been SLAMMED with several health issues. We have seen Dr. Carol, Dr. Leavit, Dr Jones, and Dr Auxier for varius reasons over that time period. ALL of these Dr's have been kind and informative. They understood our concern for our children but were respectful of the fact that we do not immunize.
When our youngest was very ill with a stomach virus, Dr. carol was very detailed and broke things down very simply for my us. He explained exactly how much fluid our baby needed in a 24 hr period. When I wasn't comfortable with his diagnosis of our son. He was not offended when he found out I was getting a second opinion. Dr Auxier treated another son for seizures and was wonderful. He even called me on several occasions just to check on his progress. Dr Jones has shown us nothing but the best care, as has Leavit! The receptionist are wonderful and so are the nurses. I highly recommend these Doctors!
There is a $30.00 charge for appointments missed with out notice, and a 7.00 after hours fee for phone calls. This may sound a little steep, but it is all worth it! You get what you pay for!

I found making the decision about who would be my daughter's pediatrician very stressful. I work in a hospital and just started asking everyone who they recommend. I got about 70% of my co-workers recommending Gilbert Peds! I have not regretted the decision to take her here. My favorite doctor is Dr. Carroll - he is the most kind and patient man ever! He always gives us useful suggestions and doesn't judge our style of parenting. I wait only about 10 minutes when I go to their Pecos office so check and see if you can get an appointment there.

I am a first time mom and I want to meet the doctors before I make a choice as to where I'm going.
I spoke with there receptionist and she was so nice. She answered every question I had, I never felt rushed. This was very refreshing. I also loved the fact they offer a class for first time moms to meet the doctors so a person doesn't feel rushed in making a decision with someone they won't like.

They are friendly and make you feel comfortable. They have a way about them that lets you know they are doing what is best for you. You can tell they love what they do. They go above and beyond their job as doctors!

Until recently, I would have recommended this practice to everyone I knew. We have never fell behind in our charges until this year when our insurance through my husband's employer changed drastically making us responsible for more of the bill. We didn't owe much, but could not make payment arrangements at the time their collector called us (I assured them they would get their $ as soon as I possibly could). I was pretty much told that our children were no longer patients until we made arrangements. My child was refused care. I was also told by this person that I was to come up with an explanation to give to her doctors!! What nerve. Obviously, this person & this office reperesents the greed & insensitivy in our healthcare system today. Oh, & they charge for after hours calls, too!!!

We have been taking our son to Dr. Jones since he was born. I can honestly say he is a great doctor. He helps us so much and is so willing to spend the time with us and do everything possible to help us- including working with our insurance to get a medication covered that originally wasn't. He seems to answer every question we have had before we have even asked it. We will continue to go there as long as we live in arizona!

I saw Dr Auxier from the time I was very little (so young I don't remember) until I was 18. I only switched dr's offices b/c my friends were starting to have kids and I didn't want to stay at a pediatrician's office anymore (although Dr Auxier always told me that I could continue seeing him as long as I wanted). My sister now has a 1 year old son and takes him there and when I have a child I plan to take him/her there as well.
I also love that there is an after hours option available to those that need it.

My son has been a patient of Dr. Leavitts all of his, 17 years, 11 month, life. One more month and we say good bye to a great doctor. At one point my son had a life threatening infection. Dr. Leavitt identified the problem when a number of other doctors did not recognized the infection. There twilight hours have come in handy on several occasions over the years. I would highly recommend them to any family with young children.

We have been seeing Dr Jones for my daughter's well check-up and treatment of eczema for about six months. Generally he was a good doctor, able to spend time answering our questions and seemed to be really concerned about our daughter although he couldn't connect to our daughter (the last time we saw him about two weeks ago, my daughter cried when he was examining her).
The same can't be said about Dr Auxier who my daughter saw once before we switched to Dr Jones. Dr Auxier didn't spend much time with us and he was rather abrupt, giving us the pamphlet about eczema without giving any medication although my daughter had been suffering from eczema for one month.
The last doctor who saw us there was Dr Leavitt. Despite his years of experience, he doesn't know how to measure the result of Tuberculosis skin test. Even after consulting with Dr Auxier, they measured it wrongly. He measured the redness over the skin test site instead of the induration. This resulted in wrong diagnosis, which of course causing us a lot of trouble and not to mention worry!
So considering the majority of pediatricians in this clinic aren't competent, I won't go there anymore and will not recommend this to anyone. The only good thing about this clinic is their great nurses and front desk receptionists.

My daughter has ear infection. We went to see Dr. Auxier after her fluid came out. He prescribed Amoxicillin 400mg right away along with another topical antibiotic. We went through this before doing a lot research on Internet, but now a days it has been found out that Antibiotic has been over prescribed by Pediatricians and 80% of the time ear infection does not require antibiotic. Also, it could be viral, in which case antibiotic does not do anything. There are many bacteria which are already restraint to Amoxicillin. My wife was trying to ask if the antibiotic was absolutely needed and Dr. Auxier rudely prescribed her the Antibiotic. They get money from Drug company for prescribing medicine and they care less about your kid. Dr. Leavitt and Dr. Jones are nice and explain why or why not you need medicine but Auxier does not bother to explain anything. There is so much information on the Internet now a days that you can be a better doctor than so many out there (Ex. Dr. Auxier).

i love our doctors! my children started going to them about 21 years ago. they had been in practice for only a couple of years with dr. guthrie and dr. leavitt being the only doctors. i still take my adopted children to them and my grandchildren see them. we have seen all of the doctors and nurse practitioners at least once and they are all highly recommended. we have had some medically fragile children and we have still had the utmost of care. we really appreciate you guys and girls. the office staff have been very helpful too. i can't say enough about this practice. we have not been able to get into the daytime hours, and have had to utilize the twilight clinic, again, top notch.

My children have been going to Gilbert Pediatrics for over two years. The doc's are great, but we usually see one of their nurse practitioners --- who are EXCELLENT! In fact, I request them when making an appointment.
The only problem I have with this practice is that they charge you if you have to call their after hours phone triage service for medical advice. Fortunately, I have only had to do so once but that could get expensive for families who have several children and/or kids who get sick frequently.

I have been seeing Dr. Carroll, Dr. Jones, and the nurse practitioner Debbie at Gilbert Pediatrics for a while now, and can honestly say that I adore them all. The front desk staff is helpful, polite, and efficient; the triage nurse is a wonderful woman who always takes the time (sometimes up to 20 minutes) to discuss illnesses or injuries, allay my fears, and assist with at-home treatment; the office nurses are gentle and humorous; and the doctors and NP are absolutely wonderful, caring, concerned individuals who genuinely care about the children they are treating. I have never once felt rushed during office visits. The doctors take the time to speak with you about any concerns you may have, check developmental milestones, and answer questions thoroughly. Best of all is the fact that my young children smile when they see their doctors walk into the room. Kids know when somebody truly likes and cares for them -- and that is the case at Gilbert Pediatrics!

It was illegal for Gilbert Pediatrics to have destroyed your childrens records after 6 months. AZ law requires that a childs health care provider keep the patients records either until the child reaches 21 years of age, or for at least 6 YEARS after the last date the child received medical care, whichever is LONGER.
IMO, you need to file a complaint with the Office for Civil Rights, US Dept of Health and Human Services, as well as with the AZ agency that regulates this provider.

We were fortunate enough to be patients of Dr. John Danforth for many years. When he passed away, we were referred to Gilbert Pediatrics. I hand delivered the copies of all 4 of my children's medical records to the new office. My baby was seen for a well child checkup at the same time. Over the course of the next year, I attempted on 5 occasions to make appointments for VERY SICK children. NOT ONCE was there an available appointment to be had. Nor would the office staff place the children on the next day
's schedule ( office policy) I was instructed to call the next morning and try again- naturally, no appointments then either. We were referred to twilight pediatrics which we have had to use almost exclusively over the past year and a half due to the inavailability of appointments during normal office hours.
Now, the best part. I recently asked for a referral to a specialist for 2 of my children. The specialist required the children's past medical records to be sent for review prior to their appointment. The office , after several requests, did take care of the referral but, did not send the medical records. They no longer had them. They had destroyed them after the children had not been seen in the office during normal daytime hours in more than 6 months.
With a policy like this, one would think that that particular information would be provided to parents when they first contact the office.
The whole incident has been extremely frustrating. Had the office fulfilled their responsibility as my children's primary care provider, and had appointments available for them to be seen, they would still have the children's medical records. Their incompetance has led to a delay of care from their specialist and will no doubt cost me many undue hours of research, phone calls oh, and Im sure a financial investment to obtain additional copies of the original records .
My advice: these doctors may be wonderful but, trying to access them through their office staff is a nightmare I would never recommend to anyone.

I feel so lucky to have been seeing Dr. Guthrie and Leavitt for over 15 years now! I have 3 kids and the Drs in their office have always been amazing...my kids have been seen at birth (with and without complications), for injuries, illnesses and just well checks. Dr Guthrie even visited us in the hospital on his day off when he heard our newest baby was born with minor complications. They are very Pro-Parent and really listen. Melanie is amazing with my older girls and really deals with all issues of growing up! Their office staff is also very knowledgeable and sincerely care about our kids..and they do have evening hours!!!

I was fortunate enouth to have Dr. Auxier care for my children. These doctors came very highly reccommended by the Neonatologists and Nurses at Banner Desert NICU. My kids required lots of extra medical care including visiting home nurses, medical equipment and specialists. I was so thankful that this office is one of the few pediatrician groups that still provide hospital care to their patients. I can't tell you how comforting it is to have your childs own doctor be the one providing care if your child ever has to be hospitalized. They will do whatever it takes to get sick kids in to see the doctor quickly and if there is ever a wait to be seen it is only because the doctors take the time to make sure each patient has the best care.

We have a little way to drive to see Dr. Leavitt at Gilbert Pediatrics but it's worth it. We've also seen Dr. Guthrie and he's great too. I believe there are at least 2 other doctors who we haven't met. Dr. Leavitt is knowledgeable, has a good sense of humor, and takes his time. You don't feel rushed in and out of the office. There's also separate waiting areas for sick kids and those who are there for well-child visits. I've had no problems with billing and you can usually get in to see a doctor quickly. I think the fees are pretty reasonable too.
PROS: several great doctors on staff
CONS: no evening hours
