Not worth the hassle
by R S.
I recently tried to do an FFL transfer through these clowns, only to be blown off. I had avoided the store for over a year after poor service, but tried to give it a second chance. Their attitude was to do it the way they want, or go somewhere else. I understand gun laws, having worked in a gun store in college, and quite a bit about guns. I don't know it all, but these guys will tell you they do...just ask them. Clowns, I'm done wasting my time on this overpriced, unprofessional operation.

Worth a look
by james j.
I have been shopping at Trail Boss for a number of years now and am very happy with them. The owner Gary supports the military as best as a small buisiness can. I go to the right arm night every month and they are there giving guns and prizes away to soldiers. I don't see anyone else in town doing that. As far as the staff being rude...the old Mike can be every once in awhile but he's a old retired CW4 what do you expect. You can count on him for any firearm relic question you can think of though. The young guys on the weekend are awesome and always help me even when there's like fifty people in there. My wife even likes going in there to shop with me. Those of you that were unhappy with this store probably wouldn't be happy anywhere you shopped. Their prices are less than Cabelas in PHX on most stuff. (and if you don't believe me spend the $80 in gas to try and prove me wrong)

Trail Boss Outfitters is good in my book
by Kyle R.
I just moved here from NC and the selection here and there are comparable. I was always disappointed in NC so i would have to purchase guns in my home state. I immediately felt at home at trail boss. They offered me coffee before i even started to look at guns. I was helped by a older gentleman and if you are a light skinned pansy who should live in San Francisco don't talk to him. If you are a man continue talking because that's the way men are. So after looking and holding and fingering almost ever semi auto pistol they had, i told them i still haven't made up my mind. He told me to go to other shops and look. I wish i hadn't because they all suck. Anyway, i came back a few days later with my wife and 3 year old. They didn't even bat an eye when my 3 year old started to get a little board. So i made up my mind went with a Glock 21. The ONLY problem i had is i only planned to put some money down at first and then come back and pay it off ( i have the money but need it done that way). They ended up charging me for the whole gun, Oh well. They my be slightly higher prices than some say in Tuscon But who want to drive all the way up there and back to buy a gun? If you do then by all means go ahead, i wont.

Its all good
by Jon V.
I've been there twice now. The first time the owner went out of his way to help me when honestly I just wanted to look around. He was very nice and helpful. The second time I went, it was half an hour before closing time and one of the younger guys went out of his way to explain things to me up until closing time. I think some of you sensitive sally's need to chill out and quit crying that they didn't change your diaper for you. Some of the guns are more expensive, some of them are less. This is Sierra Vista! What kind of deals are you expecting? Bunch of Mary's!

Consistently pleased with Trail Boss.
by Erin T.
While Trail Boss is consistently busy, I've never had a time that I've come in that they haven't had the time and patience to share their expertise and answer all my questions thoroughly. As a woman, I feel comfortable in the shop--they had good suggestions for a concealed carry piece, and I wasn't treated as some fluffy, little thing who would be best off with a mouse-gun or a can of seasoning spray. They listened to what my reasons for carrying were, what my level of experience was, and made their suggestions accordingly. I've been really pleased with the gun they helped me to select. I never felt pressured by the sales-staff, and they were patient with my slow pace.
I was so pleased with the experience, that I've sent a lot of friends and relatives their way. And, I've heard nothing but positive feedback from them as well.
Between my husband and I, we've purchased three guns from Trail Boss, and I'm intending to return to purchase a fourth. Their prices are very good. We paid about 5% less for our most recent acquisition--after tax--than identical rifles we found while researching on-line.
I will continue to recommend Trail Boss. The staff there is exceptionally knowledgeable and patient, and I've been impressed with their prices and selection.

The Right Shop
by George H.
I've been shopping at trail boss for over 7 years... never have I felt ripped off, cheated, or up sold... things my trailboss experiences have helped me avoid at other gun shops in southeast AZ. Gray and the staff are straight shooters who tell you how it is, they don't sugar coat it. That might come off as stand-off'ish or aloof, but I'd readily take the advice of 100s of years of gun experience that resides behind the counter most days at lunch time. Unlike other shops who will try to increase their profit by selling a lower quality product, trailboss only carries high quality firearms. And when you come in with a list of what you are looking for your new gun to do, they will find the right gun for you, and not push to get more gun then you need.

Local Gun Store Worth Supporting
by Joseph H.
I agree with the other reviewer who said that these guys are good, but not perfect. I've bought a rifle and two pistols there. As some people have said, the younger guys are very approachable and so is the owner, Gary. Josh and young Mike have both helped me out a lot with making purchase decisions. I've dealt with some of the older guys, they didn't seem as standoffish as other people have said (Ben and old Mike). I've only been in on the weekends/evenings though. When I was buying my pistols, I was in the store for 2 hours. I handled a lot of different pistols, although I had an idea of what I wanted. Almost everyone working in the store helped me out a bit, and all where great to talk with.
Remember that they tend to get slammed on Saturdays. That's when the most help is there, and most of the younger guys are working (who most people consider the best to deal with). However, you won't be the only customer in the store so they'll likely hand you what you want to look at and talk to another customer or two while you examine the firearm.
Overall, a very good local gun store. You'll get more personalized service than at a place like Walmart and Sportsman's Warehouse. Plus, you don't waste the time/money driving to some of the stores in Tucson.

Rip Off
by gary c.
I bought a new Ruger SR9 and picked it up Thursday, I cleaned it and went to shoot it Friday, it would not eject the fired rounds. I got new ammo, same problem, so I took it back that day and they looked at it and said it was a burr that they fixed (that might or might not be the problem) and it was better, but what they did was cover it with oil, so I said I wanted my money back. They charged me a $25.00 restocking fee, and the only way I could get my money back was to redeposit it to my debit card, that was two pm Friday afternoon, it is now Monday afternoon and I still don't have my money back.

Gun activist

I purchase a weapon from Trail Boss before and was not really pleased with the service given to me but since they are one of few gun stores in the greater Sierra Vista area I thought I would give them the benefit of buying local in searching for a Beretta PX$ Storm 45 ACP. I have prices it all over the Internet and in Tucson and the average price is around $550 to $675. Trail Boss quoted me at $930. For a previous customer I find that price outrageous. I do not feel that I would ever spend my money in the establishment again. I hope you all will consider their over priced ideas or sticking it to the locals.

Do Not Support Their Business!
by Shawn T.
So I read all the reviews on this store and thought I'd go see for myself yesterday afternoon. I was pretty disappointed after being in there less than 2 minutes. The staff is very lazy and standoffish. If you want something you pretty much have to hold their hand and ask about every little thing you are interested in. I was looking at a handgun and the guy "Bill" didn't even want to give me the time of day. I'm pretty knowledgeable about firearms and so it's a good thing I wasn't relying on his comments but when I went to asked about the price ( which was $160 overpriced...asked $675!! for an XD .40) I asked if they are firm for if they are willing to go down and the guy shrugged and walked away on me.... talk about unprofessional...DO NOT SUPPORT THESE GUYS .... Being Military I see their main business is selling overpriced guns to naive Service members.

Trail Boss Outfitters- Ugh!
by Michael K.
Spent over $700.00 in their store. Bought two rifles. Called on a Saturday and asked if I could get a couple scopes mounted and bore sighted. I was told to show up first thing on Monday morning. I hauled my guns down there. Only customer in the store. I was told that sales came first and as they had 35 sales a day they had no time to work on my rifles. 10 minute job mind you. (It is a free service to mount scopes on rifles purchased at the store.)If my guns had to be kept over night they said the paperwork required would present to much of a hassle for them.. I was given the bums rush out of the store. They gave me a number of a gunsmith across town, (who I would have to pay to do the work) but when I called the number was out of service. The "fellas" will take your money but will not provide service if needed or required. That's a sign of a bad store. This was not my first visit to this store. I have to agree with other posters that the vast majority of the staff is preoccupied with upholding the macho image rather than trying to provide quality service. I'm not mad. I just won't be shopping there anymore. Walmart and Big Five are just down the road...

Trailboss Outfitters
by barry j.
I have to say that after shopping around at most of the gun shops in Sierra Vista, Trailboss is the the one to avoid. The service is slightly shoddy, okay I'll be honest, terrible. There is one exception the owner is pretty friendly and helpful, but the rest.... Look if you are dead set on going there ask for the owner to help you. Don't even bother talking to anyone else. I have made several trips there to ask if they have a BSA for my weapon and was almost completely blown off by the staff. I won't mention the fact that they did not even attempt to show me any service from that moment forward, when a lady came in to ask a few questions. There were just me and this one lady in the store. Yet there were 3 employees helping her. My friend and I went to redeem his $50.00 gift cert for a cleaning kit and case for his 12ga. We brought it to the counter herang it up and just walked away. No "excuse me", nothing just walked away. We then stood there for 10 mins while the help stood around and chatted about nothing. It was like we were ghost and not even there. Finally, he grabbed the manager and said he wanted to give them the difference off the gift cert (it was like 58 cents) and the fellow who originally was helping us came out from the back with "Oh! 58 cents don't worry about that just give it to me the next time you come in." Where in the he** was he 10 mins ago?I am limited on space so I'll have to save the rest for some other time. Bottom line crappy service and overpriced guns equals I am never returning there again. I would suggest the same to you, but I warned you!!!

Give Trail Boss a shot!!!
by Anonymous
Trail Boss is a decent local gun store that is worth supporting. It is not perfect, but it is better then most I have seen in a long time. After meeting the actual owner, (not the manager), he comes across as a real good guy who knows all types of guns very well and is always willing to make a deal. He has been quoted as saying "Don't pay too much attention to the prices, they are only a reference for us" The gun smith/manager, suffers from a lack of people skills, but the younger kids, (young adults), who work there part time, are really nice, helpful and knowledgeable of the firearms they sell. I'm sure they are military or former military with more knowledge then the average soldier/marine. I say give them a shot; deal with the owner "Gary" or the young guys. They always give military/Law Enforcement and the "Good Guy" Discounts if you let them know or are a repeat customer.

No good
by Sean L.
I've been to Trail Boss several times in the last few months for different reasons. Two members of the staff seem like they go out of their way to make you feel incompetent. Gun store staff, in my experience, have always been a little standoffish (retired beat cops or whatever) but these guys are bitter, mean folk. One guy even snatched a gun out of a lady's hand who was being helped by a different guy to show it to me. Go to any of the gun stores in Tucson instead. The drive is worth feeling like an adult when youre talking to someone versus feeling like the child that the Trial Boss staff thinks you are. TO TRAIL BOSS: I have excellent reasons for asking the questions I ask in a gun store (the gun was for my wife, not me). Answer them and help me find what I need instead of that nonsense you guys call service.
