I miss Nello's that use to be on Mesa Dr. and Brown!!! They are awesome pizza's!! I have never tasted anything like it.
They are thick, the sauce is delicious and toppings are great. If you have a Nello's by you have got to stop in and taste their pizza. I recommend Nello's.
If you want delicious pizza, go to Nellos Pizza. They have some unique blends of ingredients on their signature pizzas and the taste is just incredible. You can choose between white or wheat crust and also thick or thin crust. They also offer appetizers (pizza crusts are my favorite), salads, sandwiches, and pasta.
Now here is a place that has their act together! Best food I have ever tasted. Top that off with friendly staff and a very clean restaurant, you could not ask for anything more!
Pros: Very Clean Great Food!
Cons: They give you so much food you could become fat
Although Nello's isn't in the glory days that it had several years ago, it still provides great, Chicago style deep dish pizza. As far as the service goes, they provide reasonably good service the only downside is the majority of them are men. But the most important thing about Nello's is the pizza, nothing else.
The pizza isn??t incredibly deep, but it definitely gets the job done. With deep dish sizes of 7?, 10?, 12?, and 14? everyone can get their needs met. Nello??s also does a great job offering a variety of 30 toppings including my personal favorite, the homemade sausage. That first bite into the homemade sausage tastes so sweet, it??s like natural candy. If you??re feeling a tad bit more daring they also offer artichoke, some peppers, and even anchovies.
Personlly I go with the 7? personal deep dish homemade sausage pizza. The homemade sausage is to die for and truly tastes like a gift from the heavens. It??s both succulent and sweet, while still appealing to the traditional hardy sausage lovers. And although the pizza's size doesn??t sound like much it quickly fills you up. You don??t have to get the traditional deep dish, they also offer a thin crust and whole wheat deep dish for the health nuts, but Nello's is all about the traditional deep dish so I'd stick with it.
When you take your first bite into the traditional deep dish pizza at Nello??s you taste the nice buttery crust, stringy, hot cheese, and the delicious sweet sauce. This sauce is what sets Nello??s apart from everywhere else, it??s uniquely sweet compared to other pizzerias, but it??s not overly sweet or strong. Unlike other pizza places, like Oregano??s, the pizza doesn??t take 30-45 minutes to make and the dough doesn??t taste undercooked.
Not only is the pizza fantastic, but the prices are great at Nello??s too. A 7? cheese pizza is only $4.60 and works perfectly for someone dining alone, while a two topping 14? pizza will run you $15.05 which is average for a large pizza without a special anyway. Considering the authenticity and quality of the pizzas at Nello??s it??s definitely well worth the money you??d spend on it over any other pizza joint in town.
Watched service and quality degrade over years. Nebraska fan hang out? Not a bad place but the location further west on Warner offers better food, new items, faster service, and a real parking lot.
Years ago this was THE pizza to beat...I think they changed from their origanal dough.
in the past few years it has been a dissapointment. Maybe new owners? It's still good, just not even close to what it once was.
My family went to Nellos on Sunday night, and recieved the worst service and it was compounded by undercooked pizza. After being seated, a 10 minute delay for greetings from our server.
I then ordered all of our drinks and food.
The drinks arrived 13 minutes later, and salad and garlic bread 10 minutes after that.
The undercooked pizza arrived 19 minutes after that, 52 minutes for a large thin crust pizza was too long.
The bottom of the crust was not crunchy, it was soft and watery.
We asked the waitress to fix it, and 13 more minutes later, it was almost burnt on top, and the bottom was not much better than before.
If there was a manager on duty to complain to, she was too busy eating behind the bar to worry about customers.
Pros: Usually good
Cons: service and crust
We got take-home from Nello's and had not been there before, so we ordered based on our experience with other Pizza restaurants. We were pleasantly surprised at the large portions. The crust was as good as any we've had, and the ingredients were exceptional as well.
The pan pizzas are DEEP.
I started going to Nello's when it was at their origingal location on the SW corner of Southern & McClintock, catty-corner from their present Tempe location. Nello's USED to be my favorite pizza for many years. When my friends visit from Cal, Nello's was a mandatory stop. Unfortunately that is no longer the case. The pizza just isn't as good as it used to be. I think there are others that feel the same because it is not nearly as crowded as it used to be. We are looking for a new favorite pizza place. We won't be going back to Nello's.
Having been an employee with Nello's in the past, I have to highly recommend that everyone eat there . Almost everything on the menu is homemade and not to mention you get a lot of food for your money. The owners are wonderful and make you feel right at home. The great thing is , is how clean the place is which is very important in choosing a restaurant to dine at frequently.
I do have to say that the service has really gone downhill the past 2 years, but hopefully they will get enough constructive criticism and theywill get back to what it once was. We have always said its the Best Pizza in the Valley
Pros: tasty, clean!!!, great menu
Cons: service needs help
Wow that was the worst pizza I have ever had! I think the cardboard pizza box would have tasted better. There was NO flavor in any of the pizza's we tried, Mt. Veggie and Pepperoni. I serriosly have never bought something and just throw it away, but lastnight we did. I am amazed at how many people say this is the best pizza in Phoenix, what a sad thing to say. We might have to move away from Phoenix if this is really the best it has to offer. Poor service too, I sat on the phone for 15 minutes to order and then the staff was just down right rude! Not a keeper at all! Go buy Pizza Hut if you want pizza in Phoenix you will be more satisfied with you meal.
Pros: none, none, none
Cons: bad food, bad service, bad parking
This pizza is by far one of the best pies around... this is a professional opinion that has has tasted pizza from all over the country and has personally worked in a mom n' pop resturant for about 6 years (far, far away) and more importantly is not based on a single dinning expericence. The service, atmosphere and over all quality is great- TRY IT! YOU WON'T BE LET DOWN
I do NOT recommend this pizza at all. It was by far the worst, most bland pizza I have ever had in my life! Everybody else I was with agreed with me. I have heard that the other items on the menu were ok, however I will never return after such a bad experience.
We love Nellos I have never been disappointed the service is always great... The best salads in town too.. try the house dressing it is worth the trip alone!!! Thank you nellos for all the years of great pizza plus the staff always remembers us that is unheard of at any other pizzeria!!!!!!
Pros: fast service, large portions, homemade
I have been going to Nello's for 17 years. I have watched it change from one Mei brother to the next as Danny went to Ahwatukee and Brian took over. The staff are always friendly and remember your name as well as the owner. The Pizza has been excellent, and consistant and love their Italian beef (French Dip) sandwiches. Every time I have taken someone there over the years, they have been impressed. They don't advertise, as word of mouth keeps them extremely busy.
Pros: good food, friendly staff, consistant
I had Nello's (Ahwatukee) for the first time five years ago on a first date with my husband. He introduced me to it and no we go several times a week. The entire staff knows what we eat, what we drink and all our friends by first name. It's hard to find places like that anymore. I recommend getting a pizza with bacon, spinach, feta cheese and red onions...mmmmmmm! Have George make you a George's pizza for a real treat, he'll choose the toppings and you will love it!
Pros: Great service, great food, reasonable wait times
Cons: Closed on Mondays, little ambiance
This restaurant is so friendly and the food is outstanding!! Great Pizza, salads and sandwiches. The place is also very clean.
Nello's is the type of neighborhood place you love to bring you friends and out of state family. Say no to the cookie cutter pizza joints. All of their locations have their own personality. I frequent the Alma School location. The pizza is just the beginning, the salads ,sandwiches are first class.
The staff has never dissappointed. They must be happy because many of them have been there for a long time.
If you have'nt been to one of these establishments, what are you waiting for?
The thin crust pizza is to die for.
Nello's serves great pizza with a ton of topping options and their house salad dressing is excellent! But they are a littl expensive.
Pros: great pizza, good location
Cons: price, no delivery, limited hours
Although Nellos pizza is fairly tasty, it is probably the most over-rated pizza in Arizona. The dough is much to thick and tasteless compaired to some of the best pies in the valley and elsewhere. I am originally from Chicago (been in AZ for over a decade) so I am a bit of a pizza snob. It is an enjoyable experience, but not the best pizza.
If you like thick crust with a rich sauce, brother, have you found the right place!! The pizzas are a masterpiece!! You want bacon?? No, ain't no bacon bits, how about whole strips of thick crispy bacon?? Not to mention the wonderful truly homemade sausage. My only knock is when you ask for veggies, they sometimes overdo it. But hey, no big, so I pick some pieces off of my slice!! Mesa location is the best, never had a bad experience there; Tempe location has disappointed me the most often.
Pros: Bacon strips & Sausag, Friendly Staff, Good value: Filling P
Cons: Tempe? Service level, Tempe? Quality, Tempe? Consistency
The place is just good. Good pizza and a real nice ambience. Never much of a wait and a real friendly staff.
The pizza is fresh, and the combination has lots and lots of stuff in it. The best combination pizza there is!!
Love the PIzza, Spring Salad is awesome! Try the Fresh Mozzarella and Tomato Appetizer
Nellos cheescake is amesome i highly recomend the chocolate chocolat chip!!
Nello's is an excellent place for gourmet pizza. Highly Recommended.
Nello's is by far, the best pizza in Arizona, I've had pizza in many states, including NY, IL, MI, CA, KS, HI, etc (you get my point) and there is just something about the pizza here that keeps you coming back for more. It's very convenient, if you don't want to wait to be seated, pick up the phone and order it, pick it up, and enjoy it home, or work, or where ever you wish. The sauce is what makes a pizza and they have it down to a science. Clearly, obvious why they are #1.
If you're ever in the San Jose, CA area, the only other pizza that comes close is Bi the Bucket.
Pros: Taste, Price, Staff
Cons: Wait, always Crowded, No Reservations
I don't know if Nellos has the BEST pizza, but I like the variety of pizzas they offer. For instance, their crab meat pizza is especially good. All the TVs have sports on.
Pros: crabmeat pizza, loud - good with kids
Cons: busy on w/e nights
Not enough servers, lacks warmth and personal touch. If the service was better, I wouldn't hesitate for a minute to drive the 25 minutes it takes to get there more often.
Pros: best pizza!, great salads!, good location
Cons: poor service
I can't in the world figure out how people in this town consider Nello's the best pizza. I'm from NY State and we practally invented the pizza and Nello's by far is not the best. First of all the pies are very small and they are pricy as well! The taste of the pie is OK, but nothing to write home to Mama about. I think the bset pizza I've had was Barro's and Pizzaferro's.
Pros: ?
Cons: Expensive, Small
Good family place to eat and the prices are average
pizzaria bianco is the best in town. anyone that doesnt already know that is brain dead from the heat. go try- then vote. typical-- that you guys would not vote it #1- thats why i left phoenix 3 years ago- i miss pizzaria bianco but not all the brain dead people in phx. go see what real pizza is like.
nellos is good-- i liked it fine-- but iis not #1
Pros: wood fired some locat
Cons: ordinary
The toppings are big and chunky! I'm ALWAYS full after having a piece of the pie!!! Costs a little more than some pizza, but well worth the value and size of the pie.
Pros: Worth the wait, TASTES AWESOME!, Worth the xtra $$$
Cons: very very busy, Cramped bcause busy, cost more$than most
If you are looking for a great tasting meal at a great value you can't go wrong at Nello's!
wonderful caesar salad to go with the great pizza,
best for gourmet pizza, try something new on your
pizza. King crab, shrimp, artichoke hearts, all works for me!
This is by far the best pizza in Phoenix and is true to its NY roots.........
Pros: Tasty, reasonably priced, melts in your mouth
Cons: not enough space, not enough sites, no delivery
I lived in Chandler....but moved to Nevada, miss the king crab pizza! Best around!
I've always had good experiences with Nello's, good pie from good people!
The owners of Nello's are not Valley natives, but hail from Chicago. Some of the nicest people I ever met here in AZ have worked at Nello's. The Pizza and service are great. (this coming from an ex NY'er). A great place to hang out at the bar and talk to the owner Brian.
Pros: friendly, clean, organized
Cons: none, none, none
Best pie in the west. Loved to eat there in High School and when I visit phoenix, we make a point of going.
Closed on Mondays because nobody likes Monday, this place, has, bar-none, the freshest, best tasting pizza in the valley. The owners and staff are nice and knowledgable and the price is right as well; not to mention that this place is totally as clean as a pin 24/7. All this, coming from a valley native, definetly counts for something. I've turned on TONS of people to this place and they all agree, Nello's is where its at. Nobody in the Phoenix metro comes anywhere even close to touching these guys.
Pros: quality/flavor/size, made fresh daily, clean/comfortable
Cons: sometimes its packed
As someone who works a couple of doors down form a Nello's I've watched thier quality and customer service preform a free-fall over the past few years. They still manage to pull off a solid pie now and again, but it's so hit or miss that it's not worth the effort.
Nello's is much too inconsistent in quality and service. Considering those perceptions, Nello's is not a great value.
