Obviously Vicci has never brought an animal to Dr. Winston. He is by far the best and most caring vet I've had for my pets over the past 40+ years, and I've had quite a few. He is honest with the owner, caring with the pet and makes himself available after hours and on the weekends to answer your questions. I hope that Joshua does not retie, because all three of my dogs love him. The BEST vet ib the NW Valley! If you require proof, contact me.

This vet is awful, rude and condescending! He trashed a story which aired on AZ3 on 5/9/14 about the death of our Yorkie from dog treats. He's taking a "personal interest" in a story he knows noting about! On the website http://www.azfamily.com/news/consumer/3OYS-Sun-City-couple-believes-treats-killed-their-dog-258703601.html
he makes over 13 derogatory comments about the coverage which makes me wonder, when does this chump work? Too much personal interest makes me suspicious that he's a pawn of the pet food industry. DO NOT TRUST THIS PERSON.

Dr. Winston is the best there is. I have been with him since he bought this practice from Dr. Don Tebbe so many years ago I can't even remember. Doc Tebbe was awesome, and he picked Doc Winston after having other choices. I have Brittanys and hunt them hard all over the US. I have had my dogs in to see Winston with everything from rattlesnake strikes to e. coli infectiions. He saved a dog that other vets wanted to put down. Dr. Winston is my first choice on this planet. Experience, experience, experience. He's got it. Great staff, too.

Yesterday we took our fifteen year old cat to be put to sleep. Dr. Winston and his staff did all they could, and more, to be compassionate to us. They recognized that it was hard to loose a pet who had been in our lives for so many years. They were so kind to us and to Chablis.

This afternoon a florist delivered a bud vase with a white carnation from the SCW Animal Hospital with a card signed by the hospital staff.

Thank you for helping us during this difficult time.

I chose to go to Sun City West Animal Hospital when I had a problem with my dog Buster. More than a few people recommended Dr. Winston. My last vet was avery nice woman but I had spent alot of money on x-rays and other tests. She felt that he had stomach problems but couldn't seem to get an exact answer. I was getting a little worried so I decided to get a second opinion. I found Dr. Winston to be a warm and caring professional and I was surprised that it seemed within a few minutes he felt that she had hurt a disc in her back. He explained that back pain could mimic stomach pain in some cases. He referred me to a specialty hospital who then did a MRI and sure enough Buster had a ruptured disc. Buster had surgery and is doing fine now. I was also impressed that I could reach Dr. Winston at night on his helpline and though I felt a little guilty calling him after hours he spent a long time on the phone with me a few nights in a row answering all my questions. I told a number of other people about my experience and I was again surprised how many other pet owners had used his helpline. I cannot say enough nice things about this vet.

First, rescues normally S/N the dog prior to adoption. Then, I drive an hour to Dr Winston's - the office is warm and caring; everyone is professional and yet knows your name.......and he cares........he walks back and forth chatting to everyone, and their owners too.......I am President of a rescue, and trust all of the rescues, and my own dogs, to his care. I have three more arriving tomorrow from TX and will be calling Monday for their first appointment with him - so they wil be on the road to health, safety and love.

I would like first say that I am a Certified Veterinary Technician at Sun City West Animal Hospital. I very clearly remember the day that you brought your puppy into us to be spayed. That morning it was stated that your puppy had separational anxiety and we understood the situation. However, after the puppy was in its kennel, she began to vomit. She vomited over 5 times in the course of her stay here with us, which was between 8am and approximatly 1:30pm. When the inital vomiting started, we waited and did not feel comfortable performing the spay on a potentially sick pet. When you picked up your pet, you state that you told us about her seperation anxiety and you also state that we asked why? This is in fact not true. We work with animals on an everyday basis here and we understand why a pet would have seperation anxiety. We did not talk about stomach flu or any other layman diagnosis. In fact I have never heard any staff member ever use the term stomach flu as it has no meaning. What was discussed was seeing how the pup did overnight and if she continued to be unwell we would address that and if she seemed ok we would spay her on another day. First, you CAN NOT treat an animal if you do not know the source of the illness. You were also told that we would be more than happy to reschedule the spay when the puppy was feeling better. Puppies DO NOT routinely vomit over 5 times in the course of a 5 hour time window due to seperation anxiety. Also I would like to inform you that operating on a pet that has vomited several times is not in the best circumstances for anesthesia. Due to the pet could continue to vomit during the procedure and while recovering which could have some disaterous consequences. Maybe the puppy was having an 'off day' of unwellness, and you were also explained this when you picked your pet up and also agreed that rescheduling was in the best interest of your pet and was actually appreciative that we were looking out for the best interest of the pet. Now, onto the tick issue. It is a well know fact that when you adopt a pet from a rescue situation that the pet may have an infestation of ticks. As with the rescue that you adopted your pet from, it is a common occurence to find ticks on those pets. I can GUARANTEE that your pet DID NOT get infested with ticks from this animal hospital as we routinely check. We have NEVER had any problems with pets going home with a tick problem. So when the puppy went home as far as we knew there was no issues or complaints. In fact just the opposite impression. So I am not sure what the complaint really is..is it that we did not spay a vomiting pet which is dangerous if not downright insane....is it that you found ticks on the puppy that was from a rescue group? It was obviously not the cost as you were charged nothing. I would like to say that if you had an issue with us, why did you not phone us yourself and ask to speak with someone? Or, maybe even talk to the rescue organization where you obtained your puppy and discuss your concerns. We work very closely with that particular organization and they could have talked to us to relay the information to us. It is this hospitals first and formost policy to look out for the safety of our clients and pets. Lastly, I would like to point out that against Dr. Winston's wishes I have responded to this. I could not sit by and have such a gross misrepresentation of what really happen left unanswered. That is the trouble with the internet..anyone can write anything no matter what the true facts are.

The worst place ever! We had to go here to have our puppy that we rescued spayed, and thankfully it did not happen. I dropped our dog off at 8 am and at 130 I recieved a phone call saying that the surgery was not done because she threw up 6 times while at the office. I immediately went to the office to get my puppy, when I did I was telling the techs that she has seperation anxiety issues and they asked why and I explained that she does not like being alone and how nervous it makes her etc. and they kept on pushing the issues that she had food posioning or the stomach flu. When I asked if they had any medications or suggestions that I could have for the time we were resecheduled to go they ignored my request and kept on insisting that it wouldn't happen again. So I took her home and then watched her for the rest of the day and she did not throw up, ate her kibble fine and had normal bowel movements. Then 4 days later we found ticks through out her coat, and we know that they were not from our house because we have never seen ticks on her before. I was horrified by this whole experice and am so thankful that we are able to take her to someplace different to have this proceedure done. I would stay away from them if I were you!

I have to say Dr. Winston and his staff are the nicest and most helpful people. I had a really bad experience with Banfield and took my business to Dr. Winston, who is 20-30 minutes away but worth every minute of the drive. I had a sick dog and was headed out of town, Dr. Winston was more than reasonable in his diagnosing and treatment of my dog. At Banfield, I would have been "nickeled and dimed" to death, with un-necessary tests and charges. Dr. Winston has a 7 day a week including holidays "emergency hotline" and you speak to him not an answering service. He doesn't even charge for follow up visits that are for a previously seen problem. Dr. Winston truly cares for animals and is in the veterinary business for the right reasons- the well-being of animals. I have nothing but the utmost respect for this man, he is gentile, caring, understanding, fair in his pricing, and approachable. I have never seen a vet walking through the waiting room, most are hidden in their office and your lucky to get to speak with them for 2 minutes. I cannot tell you how lucky I was to have found Dr. Winston and his staff, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND them.

Dr. Winston is a Godsend. I moved from Chicago and did not know where to take my 14 year old cat when he got sick and ended up taking him to All-Star Animal Hospital. The doctor there did not even touch my cat. Started telling me that we had to run all these tests on him. I declined the tests and allow him to give him a shot that knocked him out. He was on death's door, when my realtor suggested Sun City West Animal Hospital. Dr. Winston gave my cat undivided attention, very thorough in his exam and brought my baby back from the brink of death within a day. He was very loving and caring towards my cat. He also understood my financial situation and did not charge me for the visit, just the meds and did not charge me for the follow up visit either. He is always available, whether its at his office or on his after hours phone line, in which he tells you that he will return your call within the half hour. Unbelieveable! I have never known any other vet to give so much care. There is a special place in heaven for this man!

Dr. Winston is a fabulous Veterinarian and has has provided excellent care and consultation to my five Cocker Spaniels over the past six years, as well as foster dogs that I have had. Unlike most Vets, Dr. Winston is available by phone after hours to provide consultation when I have been concerned about my dogs ingesting something or demonstrating worrisome symptoms. He is always considerate and takes the time to truly listen to my concerns and the symptoms of the dog, educates me on what might be happening, and tells me what I need to do to help the dog and what behaviors would indicate the dog needs to get to a Vet. He has saved me time and money by avoiding unnecessary visits to the pet emergency hospital. Whether my dogs have had eye problems, dental problems, seizures, skin issues, odd growths, or illnesses; Dr. Winston has addressed the issues with a practical and knowledgeable approach that focuses on the well-being of the dog and not putting them through unnecessary tests or extra expenses for me. I highly recommend Dr. Winston and only wish that he had an office on my side of town.

I had been through so many vets here in Arizona and was never really happy till I met Dr. Winston. He has an after hour helpline where you can reach him for advice 7 days a week. You cannot find that in human medicine. I have had a number of problems with both my dogs and cats and always on an evening or weekend ( of course) and Dr. Winston gave me good advice everytime I have called him and saved me alot of money as I have avoided the emergency clinics twice for problems that seemed serious but were not. He is a real nice man and he has been 100% correct so far on all his care of my pets. He seems to just care about the animal and not interested in doing expensive stuff unless really needed. And his fees were significantly fairer than other places. If there is one vet I would recommend it would be this man. My friends thank me when I have sent them to him with their pets

I took my dog to Dr. Winston for an ear infection that was treated by 4 other veterinarians for over a year and a half and was not getting better. I had already spent almost a thousand dollars. Dr. Winston cured it in 3 months and gave me free rechecks every 2 weeks to make it affordable. Then I moved to Scottsdale and my older dog got bladder stones and the local vets wanted almost 2 thousand dollars for surgery. At Sun City West it cost less that half that and she did just great. he has a helpline where you can reach him it seems all the time and it has saved me a lot of worry and money with a simple call. I sent my sister to him after her vet said her dog needed surgery and she was having financial problems and it turned out he did not and it was a completely different problem and because Dr. Winston knew she was having money issues he did not even charge her for the visit just the medications! I now travel across town to his clinic cause the trip is worth it knowing I will get an honest answer. I read about his accusations. He has mostly a new staff now and I can tell you that some of his old staff were just awful they seemed to dislike everyone and everything. I am happy things worked out for him.

I have been taking my two small dogs to Dr. Winston for almost 3 years and have found him to be very pleasant and competent. He does not try to nickel and dime you by adding on extra services like a lot of vet offices do. A couple of times I have taken one of my dogs in for a problem I was worried about. Instead of immediately starting tests and meds, he told me the problem didn't look serious and to wait a day or so - come back if it hadn't improved. In both cases the problem resolved itself and I wasn't out a bunch of $$.

At my last vet's office in California, every time I walked in the door, it was $150 for this and $250 for that. The vet even told me my dog had an enlarged heart and put her on blodd pressure meds for life. Dr. Winston told me you could not diagnose an enlarged heart based on an x-ray and my dog did not appear to have any heart problems. He said I could get an untrasound, if I wanted, but he said my dog's heart sounded normal and healthy. Ever since I stopped the blood pressure med., my dog has had a new lease on life. She went from being lethargic and listless (from the meds, no doubt) to running around every day with her younger brother.

I am as against any kind of dog abuse as any animal lover would be, but I found Dr. Winston to be even tempered and as good a vet as I've been to. I think before anyone writes and opinion of him, they should know him personally. Other than that, it is only hearsay, and not of much value.
