YCOA is great!

by G. E.

Young Champions is a wonderful organization for young people. Their programs have helped so many youngsters develop skills in cheer, karate, soccer, hip hop, etc. These activities have also helped them with their self esteem and confidence.

All of the coaches do a wonderful job with their classes and are committed to their students.

To the Unhappy P. Coach Laura was a cheerleader for 8 years, in grade school and high school. She was on the varsity team all 4 years in high school and was the captain for 2 years. I worked at the high school she attended and watched her.

We love YCOA

by Rhyan W.

I cannot say enough good stuff about Young Champions, they have really built up my daughter in so many ways - as a cheerleader, but more importantly a role model and a good person!

I have had experience with many YCOA coaches, all have been, for the most part, very pleasant, hard working, motivating and great coaches! I have attended the YCOA events and showcases, and think the "winner" attitude for all students is so awesome, where else does everyone get the same size trophy? I think it is great, and my daughter has placed 1st to 4th but never focused on that as much as being so excited about her new "trophy".

The cost, is there as with anything you put your kids in, but it is very affordable. I have been to other cheer competitions and there is a $50.00 registration fee or more! With YCOA it is only $25 - that is half the price! The uniforms are important because that is what makes a cheerleader look like a cheerleader, of course you need to have that to participate in events, but then again, that is your option. Girls can take classes but not do the special events, to me that defeats the purpose, but I think that it is great they present that option to families.

The unfiforms are under $50 - and thats a great deal.I feel like all the YCOA staff is awesome, helpful and do their best to make the experience for mine and other girls the best possible - which is why we continue in the program.

As for the coaching, mentioned in other comments, I have seen that coach, Laura's, cheer and hip hop teams perform at different YCOA events, and they are ALL awesome. Her cheer teams always do well with a great and entertaining performance, and the hip hop team is wonderful to watch too.I actually remember saying last year, at I think the State Competition, that her ELITE team that performed was far better and more entertaining to watch than the CHEER PERFORMING TEAM!

So to whatever person left that comment, you have no idea what you are talking about, I would drive to her class for my daughter if I didn't live in Queen Creek, all the coaches are great! And we have had a great experience in this program - I recommend it to everyone!-YCOA Supporter

Young Champions Of America Inc is the top place for youth programs

by K H.

My daughter has been with YCOA for 7 years & has loved every minute of it. Her coach, Laura, is an AWESOME cheer & hip hop coach. Lauras teams usually place 1st or 2nd at the showcases & are National champs. The routines, even for the young cheerleaders, are up to date (by cheer routine standards) & challenge the girls to be the best they can be. You can definately tell the difference between Laura's teams & the other coaches teams - not to say the other coaches are bad, because they are not! But if you want your cheerleader to learn cheers & dance routines that she can take into Jr. High & High School, then Laura is the coach you want.

Uniforms & YCOA poms are mandatory (as they are with ANY cheer organization) but ONLY if you WANT to be in the parades or the showcases. Participation in parades & showcases is not mandatory. But if you choose to participate, then yes, you have to pay for the showcases & for some items for the parades. But the fees go to pay for the use of the showcase facility as well as other expenses, such as merchandise aside from the uniforms. YCOA is still the most affordable youth program around & I would recommend it to anyone.

YCOA Performing Team - Continues to go downhill with new Coach Laura

by Unhappy P.

My daughter was in YCOA Cheer program for 5 years. She has been on the performing team for 3 years. Last year they got a new Coach "Laura", all down hill from since then. She is a hip hop coach not a cheer coach. Originally the performing team had 36 girls on it, since Coach Laura took over, there are 8 girls left (3 of the 8 are from the same family) Coach Laura needs to stick with hip hop and leave cheer to a cheer coach.

I love it

by Chelsie B.

I started in Jan of 09 and yeah i mean its more expensive then first let on, at least for the cheer, if you want your child to participate in parades you have to buy the poms and the uniform but they have a raffle that your kid can collect money from friends and family to cut your cost. My daughter is only 5 has been in two parades and placed 3rd in regional competition. The coach, Ashley Emberlin is AMAZING! She is in the right place, the parents all love her and so do the kids! Its all based on your location and that program you participate in.

Cheerleading Program

by Bethany M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,529

My 8 year old daughter participated in a cheer class Spring semester 2008. She enjoyed it but I wasn't completely impressed. I thought it sounded like a good deal at about $6 per class, one class a week for a few months. I prepaid about $90 for the whole semester. But then there were always new costs - her uniform, I had to pay for her to participate in a parade clinic that was mandatory if she wanted to march in a parade. Then she had to buy a $5 required cowboy hat to march in the parade. I also had to pay to have her at the final competition and I had to pay to get her name on the trophy as well as a team picture. She missed the last 2 classes and she never received her picture. I called to have it mailed and never received it. My check I wrote to prepay for the classes didn't clear for over 2 months because the coach didn't turn it into the office. I had to make over 4 calls before it was finally cashed.

Overall, not impressed. It is a very large company and the coach we have didn't impress me by being great with the kids OR with the parents.

Young Champions of America Vista Ca

by Anonymous

My daughter started this last semester. The teacher was a no show on the first day and it went down hill from then on. The teacher related well with the girls not so well with the parents...we were not informed very well. The competitions were over 2 hrs away. I'm sure there could have been something closer for all of us. Anyway, in the 7th week of a 9 week course we all the sudden had a new teacher.. she could not tell us anything, then on week 8 it was to be award night and low and behold a NEW TEACHER who also new NOTHING.. and NO AWARDS for the girls who had attended the 9 week course, The Corp office said that the girls weren't going to get the awards since it was starting a new session... SO BIG DISAPPOINTMENT ALL THE WAY AROUND... CORP OFFICE KNOWS NOTHING....AND WILL TELL YOU NOTHING....BUT WILL GLADLY TAKE YOUR MONEY!!!!

great programs for kids

by Kristi B. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,878

My son went thru a season of their karate program and enjoyed it. We found a location not too far from home and he had a weekly Saturday class. A few years ago it only cost $5 a lesson and now I believe it's gone up a dollar, still a great deal. It's not high pressure, you don't have to buy the uniform. The lessons were very professionally done, I just wish parents could sit in the back and watch more than once. After a season of classes the kids are tested to see if they're ready to move up to the next belt. You do have to make up any classes you miss. I believe they have other types of classes like soccer, pom pom, and cheer.

PROS: good prices and various locations
CONS: you have to make up classes to move on in rank
