Barry is a guy that tries to cheat us all the time. We agree with the other rewiews (except the good one) because the same happened to us last month. We decided to take our car there. In the first moment, he looks like a very helpful man. He said: "Ohh, don't worry, I will check the problem and before fixing something, I will call you to know what you think - I will take like 1 hour". After 2 hours we were worried and we decided to go there. He didn't like that because he had already done the service with our car. And how about the call? He didn't call. He charged $200.00. We negociated $150.00 and he agreed. After that he charged in our credit card $200.00. We don't recommend him for anybody. He is a bad professional and tries to take advantage from his customers.

Worst Mechanics Ever! I just purchased a truck a few weeks ago, it had a ticking noise coming from under the valve covers. I was busy with school and work so just decided to take it to a mechanic and get it fixed. I took it to Barry Franks because he was pretty close to where I live, big mistake and waste of time. So I took it to him to listen too, he said it could be a number of things, but couldn't take a look at it until 4 days later. I took it in on Friday and he said I needed a new starter, which was probably true. I left it there all day, he called me and said he put in a new starter and he said changing the oil might help the noise... I told him to fix it, he complained and said he only had time to change the oil today. I picked it up that afternoon and the noise was the same. I asked if he looked under the valve covers, he said he didn't have time for it, even though this is a 5 minute process. He then told me to drive it all weekend and this may help the knock in my engine, I knew then that Barry was either really slow or super lazy, probably a little of both. I then decided to do the smart thing and not to not take his horrible advice and drive on a knocking engine all weekend. All in all, it was pretty much a $200+ oil change as his attempt to appear to have done something. That weekend I had a friend come over and take a look, we took off a valve cover and found a really noticeable bent push rod that was knocking. Replaced it within 10 minutes and for around 2 dollars. Went to start it and my starter was not working after 3 days! I called Barry, he said the earliest he can get to me is Friday. I had to get it towed back to Barry Franks, at my expense, he then tried to argue that it was my fault, he said, "you probably ruined it because you started it up too many times working on it." Huh... a starter is suppose to last 5-10 years, minimum, but I somehow started it up too many times in a 3 day period? He then said he would replace it, but now couldn't do it until Monday. I left it there for the weekend and he then charged me around a 100 bucks for bogus labor charges he said were required. Overall, the guy is extremely lazy and argues about everything. Paid $300 plus towing, and I ended up fixing the problem myself. I just hope this saves other people who are looking for a mechanic to choose a more reputable shop.

Barry has been a mechanic for 3 generations of my family. He is a very straight up,honest, hard working man who understands people and really knows his profession. He has never taken advantage of anyone I know,as a matter of fact I recommend him all the time.He gets a lot of work repairing other work done by major chain outfits that not only rip u off but do unnecessary work poorly. His prices are hard to beat and he will work with u to tell u what u need, what else he recommends, and best of all he'll tell u what u don't need.

Barry Frank is a rip off. In addition, he is a whiner. It is damn near painful just to listen to him, because you'll never get a word in. He constantly is looking to nickel and dime you with extras. I bought a rebuilt engine from him and within two weeks there was ring or valve noise and the car would lose power. I took it back to him over and over and over. He makes notes on the work orders that are false and designed to keep him from liability. Then, he finally admitted he installed the wrong head gasket, but, did not admit that the engine was damaged. Instead, he put the car back out on the street over and over and waited until he claimed it was just out of warranty. This guy is a real POS - run like hell fire as fast as you can away from him.

Just like the previous review -- took advantage of a little 22 yr old. First quoted $500-$600, then said some ^$%( about needing to add some extra screws around the timing belt -- would add up to around $800 -- threatened that it would not be drivable without these screws. While trying to assess if the car was worth putting more than $500 into repairs -- they performed the work without approval. Then they said, we can "undo" the work if you don't want to pay the $800. This place REEKS as unethical. Beware! Is there a law against this? Should be!

I was very disappointed when Barry Franks started on car work without consent. I received a call citing that there were problems x,y,z and I should get a tune-up for $150. While I do not doubt that a tune-up was due, most cost between $40-70! But above all, NO ONE should "repair" your car without consent. I was constantly encouraged to be "up-sold" by "extras" that might improve my car's performance and felt like I was at a shady used car lot!
