At Don & Charlie's you'll find delicious food, generous portions, friendly, efficient service, and a sports memorabilia collection second to none. We offer fine American dining that has never gone out of style. Popular menu items remain prime steaks, hickory-smoked barbecue baby back ribs, chicken and fresh fish. Don & Charlie's features a club atmosphere with warm wood paneling, comfortably padded chairs and banquettes, and crisp white-clothed tables. The star attraction is the veritable sports museum housed throughout the restaurant. It's thought to be the largest collection of sports memorabilia west of the Mississippi. Hosting a private party? Scottsdale Bar-B-Q?
by Mark B.
Is this an infommercial for this restaurant? I thought we were gauging on Barbeque! Michelle D said, "If your from the Midwest and looking for some good beef, look no farther. Don and Charlies has won many awards for their excellent food." I was born and raised in K.C. Whether it's beef or Bar-B-Q, this place is just O.K. Best part is the atmosphere. That's it. In terms of true Bar-B-Q, Don & Charlies is mediocre at best. If they were to get a unique sauce that sets them apart, amen. Until then, 3 stars.

Don & Charlie's just OK
by Mark C.
Went to dine on a Friday night and was sat very quickly. The servers look to be on their death bed, nobody was under 50. Ordered a pork chop and half rack of ribs, which was very pricey and not worth the money. Felt like we were stuck in the 70's all night, the music was cheesy and annoying. My wife and I (age 30) were by FAR the youngest people in the restaurant. Our server smelled like smoke and had nasty teeth. This place has the atmosphere, but needs some youth.

Excellent Food, Excellent Service
by Gerald H.
We were taken to Don and Charlies by a friend who always goes there when he is in town. The food was excellent. I had the pork chop and it was grilled to perfection. Our friend had the ribs and they were just great. The service was attentive without being intrusive. And we could carry on a conversation without shouting, even though the restaurant was packed, because the acoustics were great.

This is where a lot of up scale people like to dine. They have some of the best steaks and seafood around. It has a sort of refined sports theme but its very nice.

Love D&Cs
by azsuede
This place is amazing! The best time to visit is during spring training when there's TONS of celebrities there. This place is pretty easy going...it's not like City Hall or Flemmings or places like that. Don Carson is the man. He knows EVERYONE there is to know in the sports world and the memorbilia in that place is off the charts. There's a babe ruth signed basball and tons of other awesome meorbilia. I can't say enough good things about this place. You have to be a sports fan to really appreciate D&C's. I'm guessing the other reviews were written by people who don't fully understand and appreciate sports. YOu MUST go there if you're in town. The service is great! Our waiter was the son of a famous athlete and he gave us some pretty good insight on the sports world.
Pros: great atmosphere
Cons: none

Best Steakhouse in Phoenix
by oncodude
Mastros, City Hall, Captal Grill, Donnovan's, Mortons, Ruth's Chris - they are all so simliar that you can barely tell which one you are eating at. Stuffy, overpriced and predictable. Then there is Don and Charlies. The steaks are amazing, the atmosphere is totally unique, the service is impeccable and the price is actually BETTER than all of the rest. I eat here all the time and finally decided to write a review.
Every inch of this place is covered with original sports memorabilia. From authentic Joe Dimaggio signed baseballs, to autographed football jerseys to original FBR golf scorecards, I always spend at least a half an hour just walking around checking out the walls. It seems like every time I am here there is some sports celebrity eating just a few tables away - Mike D'Antoni, Kotsuku Fukedome, even Willie Mays was in the house on one occasion. If you come during spring training, it is a whos-who of baseball celebs, and the restaurant is mobbed.
The best steak in the house is the bone-in ribeye - and you have to get it with a Char-Crust, topped with roqueforte butter. The place still gives you a salad, baked potato and onion rings standard with your meal, and the beef is top-quality prime. The char-crust and roqueforte butter really make the steaks different from any other steak at any other restaurtant. We always get the creamed spinach which is gooey with cheese, and the shrimp de jonghe as an appetizer. The shrimp is kind of like a scampi, but better - baked with garlic and breadcrumbs. My wife always gets the filet and swears by it.
On top of the great food, the servers here are fantastic. They know the menu inside and out, and are friendly and attentive without being stuffy or snooty like other "prime" steakhouses. The deserts are huge and delicious - tonight I had the banana cream pie and my wife had something called the "skoog pie", a chocolate, caramel concoction that was just amazing.

Heard so much about Don & Charlies over the years, finally had a chance to visit. Ordered the ribs....which were very tuff and chewy. Had to ask several times to have the water refilled. Prices tended to be on the high side. I contacted the company's web site and left a message about my experience. I never heard anything from the management. There are better restaurants in the area.

Horrible Service
by suee9999
It took an hour and half just to get our salads, need I say more? The hostess was rude, and the waitress complety dissapeard. The food was mediocre at best. I don't know why anyone would want to eat here.
Cons: service, ambience, food

Best of the Best
by ringo8592
Though Don and Charlie's for some odd reason is not on the top of the list here, it should be. You're not going to find a better Rib and Chop house in all of Arizona if not the US. This is the place to be, especially in the spring time because it is frequented by almost all the MLB spring training players that are in town. This restaurant aside from having great food and a great staff has one of the largest sports memorabilia collections. This is an exquisite that will be loved by everyone.
Pros: Amazing Food, Superior Service, Terrific Atmosphere

Where's the beef?
by uri1
I am told that this restaurant has been here forever, and it looks like it needs a good dusting, with dust bunnies growing on the memorabilia, and everything old a crickety. This restaurant is was over-priced, especially for the ribs which were nearly meatless on the end-cut I was served. For a few snowbirds, this place is obviously a regular, and they are happy about the food, compared to wherever they come from, but it wasn't for me.
Pros: Memorabilia

After 15 years, I returned...
by imdan
I visited Scottsdale in 1989. My friends took me to Don & Charlie's for happy hour one evening and for dinner another evening. I enjoyed the pleasant people working at D & C.
In 2004, I returned to Scottsdale. I still love D & C's. Great people! Great Food! Great Happy Hour!

This place is way overpriced and reminds me of 1970's style food, service, and atmosphere. Just look at the clientele which probably averages over 70. This is not necessarily bad, but is not for me.
Pros: Food okay
Cons: , Service slow, distant

No Go
by thebinzerus
It is neat to see all of the sports memorabilia but that is as far as it goes. I can't believe anyone would rate this eatery anything more than a "bust". Maybe just an "off night" but the food was terrible, the service was terrible and if you look past the autographs the place is dirty. If you are thinking of going to Don and Charlies, stay home and eat turkey franks. March 7, 2004.
Pros: Good Parking
Cons: , Service
