We like to think of the club as a great place to have a cocktail with your friends then dance the night away. In addition to the two bars, the dance floor is large and there is a smoking patio that has frontage along the Broadway Strip. Opened in March of 2003, the DragonBar has become one of the steadiest clubs in San Francisco. The DragonBar is open Wednesday through Saturday. Chosen as one of the 3 locations in the US by GQ Magazine as a site of the now infamous GQ Lounge Parties, DragonBar has placed itself on the national map and is a great place to throw a party. See for yourself, you won't be disappointed.

In Short
A vision in crimson, champagne and black, the interior transcends trendy minimalist design with a seductive drenching of Asian elements--pictures of geishas, oversized bamboo sticks and a slew of giant paper lanterns. It also boasts one of the most flattering lighting scheme on the block. Using red lights in an otherwise dark spot, the confines will have revelers looking better than the hot-bodied Broadway Street dancers.

Key Points

  • Perfect for Private Events
  • Heart of North Beach
  • 1/2 Price Thursdays

The Inside Scoop

  1. When to Go - Arrive early, as the club fills up quick and the door staff strictly minds the club's capacity.
  2. Know Before You Go - Cover charges usually hover around $10.
  3. Look Good - Avoid the lines and use the easy-to-miss underground restrooms near the dance floor.

SO MUCH FUN!

by Barbara B. | top100 Top100 | Rank: 8

Went here for a birthday party and it was so fun. Reserve a VIP Table because it gets crowded. I really liked the crowd... not too young and not too old!

Fun Fun Fun!

by Shan W. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 113

I planned a birthday party here and Troy the manager made it so easy and effortless. Once we got there the waitress was friendly and helpful and the drinks were delicious! The DJ played the latest songs and it got really packed by midnight. The crowd was friendly and our whole group had a great time. Troy even let us bring our own cupcakes

real fun

by Jerome B. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 693

The atmosphere is really fun. I bring my friends who come into town and we party the whole night away. The drinks are inexpensive, and there are no rowdy people here. It's a nice place!

Dragon Bar

by c c. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,128

Fun North Beach bar for drinks and dancing on the weekends. There's usually a line and a $5-$10 cover on fridays and Saturdays, but the bar and dance floor get very crowded anyway. The music varies depending on the dj, .and bar service is average. Good place to go if you've got a small group and are just looking for a good time

AWESOME PLACE FROM THE MUSIC TO THE STAFF

by SteveMarcAntonio

WOW this place is off the hook!!!
First off you walk in and see a long bar with hot girls bartending behind it, the design is really cool VERY RED?but the lighting is great!! Then you walk into the main room where the DJ is elevated and whatever song he is playing including mash ups the video is projected on a big screen!!! NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE!! The music was the best thing but everything else was also great!! The crowd was great, the employees were nice and the drinks were not the cheapest but definitely got the most for your money!! Big glasses and strong drinks, the door guys were nice but definitely had a presence outside. From what I could tell there were no security guards inside, don?t think you would need anyone from the clientele that was in there. The GM of the place told us that he just recently took it over and bought us a round of shots!! He was really cool and nice.
DEFINITELY WILL GO BACK!!!
ONE OF MY BEST EXPERIENCE FROM THE MOMENT I WALKED IN TO THE END

Pros: GREAT DJ, GREAT DRINKS, AWESOME DECOR!!

Great DJ and Drink Sizes

by sethb

I went to this bar with some friends after we found out Impala (down the street) was closed for a private event. Despite the $10 cover (Saturday night) it was a very fun night! We were lucky to find a booth to park ourselves at, drink, and dance. The drinks were very reasonably priced ($6-8), especially since there were easily the biggest drinks I've gotten at a club/bar before - basically pint size glasses for drinks even as simple as a Vodka Redbull. There was also a cocktail waitress that came by in case we didn't want to order at the bar. My friend even asked the bartender to be creative and make us some drinks we wouldn't have thought of - and they were really good. The DJ was also very good - kept it going with a great mix of new stuff and old stuff (Montel Jordan). Great night!

Pros: Drink sizes, atmosphere, DJ, not over-packed

Cons: $10 cover

DJ is of the chain

by mariaguz

I love going to the Dragon Bar. Each time I go the DJ never can go wrong with his music. I like the ethnicty to it. I went there for my b-day last May and had the time of my life and then again in October for a friends b-day. I plan to go again the year for my b-day.

Pros: The DJ can get your buzz going when he brings back old skool music.

Cons: Parking

Good atmosphere, good crowd, good place to dance

by justfornow

This place definitely picks up into the night. People look good and everyone seems to have a great time. I love the set up, it nevers gets too crowded but the place is certainly well-known. The crowd is diverse which I really like. Music is mostly mainstream, gets a little repetitive but any popular place will play popular music more than once during the course of the night. Waitresses friendly and very attentive.

Cons: $10 cover

Great music, good crowd

by msnicole

I have to say this place is one of my favorites. I love that they have an outdoor patio and lounge to get a breath of fresh air. It can crowded on weekends so get there early to avoid paying cover charge. The decor inside is really beautiful and the lighting makes everyone look hot!

Pros: Atmosphere, crowd, DJ

Cons: cover charge, smaller space

Bleh

by charmingkati

This place is alright once you are inside (and are not there for the watered-down cocktails) but the bouncers are JERKS. No matter what day I have been here they have rudely informed us that we will have to wait at least an half hour and that we may not even be let in.

Last time we went they told us that they were only letting people on that were on the gueslist, when I replied that we were on it, he said "This list? This is only if someone that works here put you on." Look out for the short little bouncer with a clipboard... he thinks he is king of the world.

I will not be going back.

Pros: Music is okay, customers are not annoying, boys are sometimes cute.

Cons: Evel staff, always mess up my drink order, DJ is rude

It is all about Troy and his entourage!

by staciaf

I went there for the first time for the women's wine tasting on Thursday evenings. My girlfriends and I experienced the best service we could have asked for from Troy and his friendly staff. The wine was great along with tasty apps and good music playing in the background as well. I liked the "no attitude" feel in a posh setting.

Pros: great service, spacious

Stop and go bar.....

by christhejunglist

pros:
older crowd, louge style feel, smoker freindly, food is all around, in the heart of North beach...

cons:
In the heart of North beach, no parking, dim lighting, small venue when crowded!

recomendation:
After a date in North beach a good place to throw back a few drinks after a meal and call it a night.

horrible

by miki156

I originally begged my friends to come with me because I had been dying to check it out, but unfortunately was met with a rather irritating experience. The patrons of this place were overly annoying and didn't care if they spilled their drinks all over you while they danced drunk, kicking you all the while. The drinks were unbelievably watered down - a baby could have drank that stuff and not get a buzz. All of this plus a $20 cover fee. I would have been better off using the $20 to purchase my own vodka and make cocktails at home while hanging out with a group of friends.

Cons: drinks, parking, patrons

This use to be a good place

by pbgemini

The service has definitely gone down hill at the Dragon Bar. If your looking for a good time without any attitude this is not the place you want to go. My girlfriends and I went this weekend to celebrate a birthday and from begining to end the service was terrible. The bouncers had major attitude problems and even the DJ had an attitude, to the point he would not wish our friend a Happy Birthday, nor take requests. What kind of DJ is that...it's not like it's an LA club. I will be taking my money elsewhere, where people are out to help you have a good time, not kill your fun. Thumbs way down for this place!!!

Pros: Nice Ambiance

Cons: Bad service, Employees w/attitude

For gullible suburbanites

by mangogirl

This place goes to great lengths to have an attitude that it does not earn. The bouncers are rude, the line outside is a hoax to attract followers, and the atmosphere is no different from the rest of the Broadway trash clubs. It smells bad, it's too hot, the music is average, and my drink glass was dirty. Not worth the wait or the cover.

Pros: none, none, none

Cons: bad attitude, contrived atmosphere, dirty glasses
