steve p.

Dr. Sig saved my dogs life. My Female Sheppard had an infected Uterus that could have ruptured at any moment. Dr. Sig stayed after hours on a Friday night to do the surgery. Our dog is alive and doing great, thanks to Dr Sig

Ratings_icons A caring vet

Dr. Sig is very caring and goes the extra mile. If there is a problem, he will try to fix it. He will call and discuss the pet.

Ratings_icons Trust me I would know :)

Maybe I.

First off you can disregaurd the crazy cat lady that somehow saw curtains that don't really exist. Yes people, thats right, this place actually has rooms with walls. It is a house that was converted to a hospital many many moons ago with some add ons. Now, for the seriousness of it all. This hospital was at one time #1 in the IE.. that is no longer the case. Be it because it is so busy, be it because the doctor is "losing his mojo with age", or be it because of out-dated procedures and policies. I feel that the majority of the staff you see up front is very young and inexperienced and the attitude/maturity they show reflects that. However there are many staff members that have been there a long time and are very knowledgabel. It is really a hit or miss as far as the staff is concerned. I think the cleanliness of the place goes down with every visit. I'm sure the main reason is that they are too busy and might want to concider hiring someone whose only job is to clean all day. With the amount of clients they see they really could use a bigger (more trained) staff. I would NEVER recommend getting a surgery done on any pet in any hospital that is this busy regaurdless of cleanliness. The positives are that I have never seen Dr. Sig turn someone away. He comes in early, he stays late, he works 7 days a week, and he even comes in sometimes in the wee hours of the morning when someone calls him with an emergency... yes he used to (don't know if he still does) puts his private cell phone # on the hospital answering machine. He is a good guy and I've seen him not euthanize a pet and tresat it so he could surprise a family that couldn't afford treatment. I've seen him come in in the middle of the night to check on patients he was worried about. This man is not without feeling. But there is a time to work and a time to retire, and he's nearing the ladder of the two every day. I don't recommend this place unless you are really short on money. If you need a cheap vet then go to LLAH but go in the early morning, when they firt open trying to avoid he chaos. And DONT get any serious procedures done here. And DONT board your pets at a hospital. I know it seems like a good idea to board your pet where there is a doctor on site, but I'm telling you they will be better watched over at place that is specifically for boarding. This goes for all hospitals. I hope this is helpfull.

PS: the scabies person said Iverson? It is ivermectin and although the lable says it is for large animal use Sig is not the only doctor who uses it on dogs. Most places do.

Ratings_icons The ONLY place I will take my fur friends!!!

Sheila D. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,028

I've been taking my Boxers to Dr. Sig for years now, even when I lived 50 miles away! He is really good and VERY fair in pricing! Just a few months ago, one of my dogs required a cesarean, which turned into hysterectomy and all the pups were dead long before the surgery. My dog almost died during surgery but he saved her! The TOTAL price for the surgery and meds and EVERYTHING was about 5X cheaper than ANY other animal hospital quoted me! It wasnt much more than a spay! You cant go wrong with him, he is GREAT!

Ratings_icons intra-abdominal hemorrhage

J J.

I had a cat spayed. She never fully came around after surgery. She hemorrhaged to death (intra-abdominal hemorrhage) I realize now that she was in hemorrhagic shock when I picked her up. The nursing staff was oblivious to this. Improper ligatures on the cervical/uterine/ovarian stumps most likely. Something a bag of KD can't fix.

Ratings_icons Loma Linda Animal Hospital is great!

We have had two dogs that were ravaged by some large animal on our property and then we found them basically bleeding to death on our doorstep. We rushed them to Dr. Sig who was awesome. He had to reconstruct one dog (who is doing great by the way!) and the other there was no hope and he euthanized (for a minimal fee since he was rescued). The Dr. is honest and fair in price.

Ratings_icons Loved my experience

Patricia T.

I have a much loved thirteen year old full size potbelly pig. When he stopped eating I knew I had to get him in to a vet fast. Finding one that could take him turned out to be another matter. I had never heard of Loma Linda Veterinary, and when I called them they were very knowledgeable and accomodating. They took care of my pig, and he's been on the road to recovery ever since. They even mail meds as needed since they're a bit of a distance from me. My experience was stellar in everyway, and I highly recommend this animal hospital.

Ratings_icons I've been to a LOT of vets...

Trish L.

Having been active duty military all over the US and Europe, and Dr. Sig is hands down THE best vet we've been to. It does smell but that's a small price to pay when you're financially strapped but need excellent care, with no additional fleecing. He's also the ONLY vet I have EVER been to that won't call you up asking for additional charges. My husband had been feeding our Siamese real meat for years, and when she started puking (signs of renal failure) Dr. Jensen in Apple Valley told us to "keep feeding her hotdogs and tuna, because there is nothing to do for her kidney problems," but Dr. Sig got her on KD food THAT day (which not only stopped her puking immediately but costs $10/bag less than at other vets) and put her on meds to slow her disease process, all for LESS than Dr. Jensen's BAD diagnosis, with NOTHING else done, essentially sending her home to die an early death, even knowing how much she meant to us. I'll be a loyal customer of Dr. Sig as long as he's around...

Ratings_icons ITS AN ANIMAL HOSPITAL NOT A SPA

george l.

I have also been going to this hospital for many years. For care with my rabbits, ducks, dogs, cats, hampters and guinea pigs.

They have never been anything but professionsal, courtious and helpfull.

They care about the animals and if you cant see that maybe you arent looking.

Yes, it does smell sometime they are animal and have problems. thats why they are there. This hospital services more animal and more varieties of animal than anyplace I have ever seen and i have been to several.

I put my money, and i do, on Loma Linda any day.

I dont remember any curtains by the way. each exame room is a seperate.

Over the years I took my two cats and a dog to Dr Sig and his clinic. I didn't realize that other animal clinics don't stink and when the previous pet pees on the scale, it gets cleaned before your animal steps on it. My daughter was interested in becoming a vet and was able to shadow Dr Sig for a day. When she arrived home she informed me that when the Dr did claw removal surgery, the cats were all lined up and anesthetized and then he went down the line and did the surgeries with the same scalpel. He did not wash up or change scalpels between surgeries! I know that they are "only" animals, but as a health care worker I also know that you don't do surgery on more than one patient with the same scalpel! After that incident I resolved that I would never go there again. I wonder what the rate of infection is for the animals treated at this clinic vs. other animal clinics in the area?

Ratings_icons Do not board your dog here!

Jacquelyn J.

I boarded my dog with the Loma Linda Animal Hospital when i went on vacation last week. Yesterday i went to pick her up and was shocked to see that my already small dog had lost weight and was quite dirty. When i got her in my car i noticed that her collar was very oddly placed around her neck and underneath her front leg. It was so tight that i had difficulty removing it. The collar had obviously been that way for a while because she had rub marks and a big scab underneath her leg from the rubbing. After getting her home that night i noticed something on her neck. I took a closer look and found a tick the size of a small beetle on her neck. I payed a good amount of money to have my dog boarded expecting she would be properly taken care of. I am disgusted imagining the way my dog was neglected while staying at the Loma Linda Animal Hospital.

I had heard about LLAH through my local reptile store. We have few reptile veterinarians in the Inland Empire, so I was forced to take my veiled chameleon there. Upon meeting Dr. Sig, I was impressed with his professional manner and knowledge of reptiles. He could have told me to bring my chameleon in daily to receive his antibiotic shots... and made more money from daily office visits. Instead, he showed me how to administer the medication and provided me the necessary tools to do it. I felt that I was teated like an intelligent, caring pet owner.

If you want a vet that talks baby talk to your pets, this is definitely not the place for you. If you want competent, thorough pet care, by all means, visit LMAH.

The exam table in my room wasn't cleaned before I entered, but they would have gladly cleaned it if I asked them. As for the building being outdated, I don't visit a vet for the architecture or dcor, I go there to have my pets cared for.

Ratings_icons THE BEST

linda b.

Dr. Sig is the best there is. I moved from the area and had to take my dog to a different vet. Forget that! Now I travel the extra miles to LLAH. He is a very busy man, but let me tell you that he has taken good care of my doggies for over 20 years. My 15yr. old little Dolly just passed away a couple of days ago of kidney failure. While she was sick he did everything he could for her. I will never, ever try another vet. He is so knowledgeable and caring.

the staff at LLAH are so courtious and caring. I would never believe that a staff member would say such things. they are always full of smiles, and knowledge. DR SIG trains his staff well. yes it is a busy hospital and if the staff is not notified of a mess it may go unoticed, but once notified it will get cleaned up, I am appauled, and offended that someone can outright lie about such wonderful people that will go to any means to help us clients. I have been to other vets and they dont hold a candle to the staff a LLAH.

I took Hero to Loma Linda. He had been sick with stomach problems for awhile. I was very pleased with Dr. Sig. He was truthful and l felt he did a good job. He did not rip me off like some vets do. He gave me sound advice. I did what he said and my horse is doing so much better now.

Ratings_icons Dr. needs to review his old textbooks

After a "loyal" customer of Dr. Sig over many years (he is more affordable than other Vets) I will never go back to his office again. I brought my 10 week old puppy in recently for a respiratory tract-infection...He gave me Cipro 250mg twice a day for 7 days...I repeat a 10 week old PUPPY. This dose is equivalent to one you would give a teenager. I'm no dummy, I happen to be a pharmacist (though, my expertise is not canines), and this is 7X the dose we should have received (dosing based on his weight). Also, Cipro should not be given to young adults/children--so this probably includes pup's too. Furthermore, Cipro is not indicated for respiratory tract infections! I didn't want to correct him in front of his face, so I bought the drugs anyways. Please look up doses (as you read previous reviews) for medications BEFORE you give them to your pets.

Ratings_icons I will never go back to this vet again

Anonymous

Dr. S. was treating my moms dog for allergies and he over medicated him with prednisone. Soon after her dog developed pancreatitis. After much research and going to other vets we had found out that prednisone can cause pancreatitis in dogs especially in Schnauzer's, which was the breed of dog he was. His pancreatitis is what eventually cause his death at 7 years of age, which is very young especially considering the fact he is a small breed of god. I also had a bad experience when I brought my lab in to see him. He had torn of small part of his ear at the very tip. He evaluated it and said he needed stitches. My dog had a similar injury prior to his and it had healed without stiches. When I asked him if it might heal on its own Dr. S treated him like I was an inhumane person if I did not get this sutured immediately. So I agreed. My dog had to stay overnight and when I went to pick him up the next morning. They still hadn't stitched it and it was already healing on its own. This is the worst vet I have ever been to and I will never step foot in his clinic again.

Ratings_icons Dr. S. Is a Saint.

Anonymous

He really is...
...sure the place could be mopped a little more frequently.
...sure it could be painted.
...sure it is busy.

But Dr. S. is considered to be the best vet in the IE, at least by dog breeders who know who to trust. True, sometimes you need to ask Dr. S. to slow down and take a second look. But he is genial, knowledgeable, and he cared greatly about his animals.

His staff are excellent. Yes, they get busy and if there is a mess, in the lobby they may not see it right away. But they are always helpful, never rude, frequently rushed.

This is a very busy vet office. If you want boutique type care for your animal--this is not the place. If you want one of the best vets in the area--this IS the place.

Ratings_icons Kudos to Carolyn B.

Suzanne C.

Carolyn,

I just wanted to let you know that I had just recently moved here from Las Vegas and in Las Vegas, my cat gets "Prime" Care I went to Loma Linda Hospital out of necessity and convenience because it is literally "around the corner" from where I live... First of all I want to say for those of you who wants less than mediocre care for your pets, then by all means, keep going to this lousy hospital! but I will pay more if I have to, just to give my pet the best care possible!!!

First I took my cat there for his yearly shots because my former Vet in Las Vegas sent me a postcard that it was indeed due so I did not meet the Vet here in Loma Linda at that time, he had one of his staff poke and prod my cat, which I don't mind its just a yearly shot... I too noticed the filth in this hospital, they do not sanitize the pateint's table before each use, I hear a lot of pets wailing and crying around the place thus, making my cat exteremely nervous and scared, they have a curtain separating the examination room from the next...

The second time I went which will be my last, was to get a prescription for my cat's sneezing, Dr.S diagnosed respiratory infection and gave me a prescription in the form of shots, I have to administer this shots every day for ten days, he also told me that if the sneezing do not go away then bring him back...after ten days, I believed my cat has gotten worse, now his eyes are tearing up and he weezes a lot, also has a whistle in his breathing... I wanted to bring him back to this same hospital and tell the Vet that my cat is still sick but my girlfriend suggests to take my cat somewhere else! I do not know what to do, risk being misdiagnosed again or get a second opinion...

All in all, after $200.00 in this filthy and incomptent hospital, now I have to find a different clinic for my pet because I believe that he is getting worse...

Ratings_icons There's No Pleasing Some People

Steve S.

I have been going to Loma Linda Animal Hospital for years. The staff is courteous, professional and genuinely care about animals. The doctor is knowledgeable and extremely competent. Granted, he is not all sunshine and flowers. His bedside manner with the pets' owners is matter of fact and terse, which some might interpret as gruff, but he is always polite, and his terseness is due to the fact that he is always very busy. The fact that he is so busy after having been in business for a very long time alone speaks volumes about his competence. More importantly, in my opinion, than how he treats the pet owners is how the pets respond to him. My poor dog is terrified of going to the vet. She shakes and quivers on the way there and tries to escape out the waiting room door, tugging on her leash. Yet, when the doctor enters the room, she is suddenly very calm and sits patiently while she is probed and pricked with needles.
I will avoid ad hominem attacks on the person who submitted the previous post, but I suggest you read the post and draw your own conclusions as to her character. She seems to think she knows more about veterinary medicine than the doctor. She suggests that Dr. Sigdestad is responsible for her dog developing diabetes based upon general data available on the Internet, but notice she doesn't mention that another vetrinarian backs up her unqualified diagnosis. I am sorry to hear about her pet's ailments, but she should not besmirch Dr. Sigdestad's reputation due to her and her pets' unfortunate circumstances. One more clue to the character of the author of the previous post is in that she makes so much mention of the cost she incurred due to the alleged incompentence of Dr. Sigdestad, but no mention of the suffering of her pets.
Dr. Sigdestad, on the other hand, truly seems to care about animals. He is by no means getting wealthy from his practice, since his prices are very affordable, and he works tirelessly each day.
