Pet's of Bel Air

by Darcy S.

I personally am not certain if what is said is true about this store or not. However, I can say that even buying puppies from a breeder is not necessarily safe. Breeders too can over breed dogs causing health and behavioral problems. I am also amongst those that purchased a dog from Pet's of Bel Air. Now I can only speak about my own experience, and my pet is a nice dog with a pleasant personality and demeanor. She is healthy and full of energy. I guess my point here is that we don't really know for certain (short of seeing actual documentation and I am not referring to heresay from the Humane Society) as to whether or not this store actually buys pets from Puppy Mills. But if they do, I agree it to be very wrong and illegal. So I think we need to put this into perspective, I have read comments on here from people blaming others for buying a dog or cat from the store, which I think is a bit extreme. At the end of the day, I or anyone else purchasing a dog or cat is giving it a home and really the Humane Society animals are a combination of dogs/cats that were not wanted by their owners and runaways, etc. So, at one point in time for many of the Humane Society animals, they were purchased from a breeder or pet store. Now, I'm not saying not to give these pets homes, but I am saying that it is an individual choice as to what pet you as a person choose as your companion and from where. And at the end of the day, a person should not be held accountable for a pet that is put to sleep because perhaps the previous owner decided they no longer wanted it. No matter how much work my pets are; I love them and they are my family so I personally think this issue with so many pets facing death does have to do (to a degree) with the owners that purchase the pets in the first place and refuse to take responsibility for them after the purchase.

Liars and Puppy Mills supporters

by Anonymous

The United States Humane Society released a report and an insider video of Pet's Bel Air's deceitful business of buying puppies from puppy mills and supporting this abusive pet breeders. It is obvious that the employees of this pet store is only concerned for money that is why they knowingly lie to customers about the puppies' health so that they can get a sale.

I've read their website and they are making stupid excuses that were supposed to be innocent and were not aware that their puppies might have come from puppy mills which is a complete lie. According to the insider video, all of the places that this pet store purchased their pet are all puppy mills which is charted in their records.

DON'T BUY YOUR PETS FROM A PET STORE. ADOPT PETS AND SAVE LIVES

Puppy mill animals are sad

by The Pissed K.

I can't believe it doesn't occur to people where these animals might come from. No true animal lover would or should buy an animal from a pet store when there are thousands sweltering this summer in the pounds. Support your local store NOT selling live animals, or one which welcomes rescue groups to show their animals in-store.

Only the most vapid people still go here and don't care, mostly the ones who are buying an animal as a status symbol, not because they truly want a friend and companion. Remember, that cute puppy's parents are still stuck in hell, in cages, in the hot sun, and your purchase continues to make this inhumane treatment a reality.

THERE IS PROOF THAT THIS STORE BUYS FROM PUPPYMILLS

by Anonymous

There were investigations into where this store gets their puppies, out of state puppymills. Disgusting hellholes where dogs live in wire cages, drink out of rabbit feeders that rot their teeth and are bred over and over for greedy petstore owners. It's animal abuse people! There are photos of the mills they buy from, petstores should not be selling animals, they sell kittens like the ones being killed daily at the shelters and rabbits OMG who buys rabbits. Go to the shelters, adopt save a life! Be patient when you go on Petfinder they will get back to you. When you buy shelter dogs die! No more breeding and buying dogs & cats until the shelters are empty--5million companion animals are killed every year. Do something good in your life and adopt!

This is insane.

by Anonymous

I do not disagree with giving your favorite pooch a little pampering. However, I highly do not recommend this store. It does indeed use puppy mills regardless of what the store itself or other people *ahem Joe C.* may say. People mills are dangerous, disease-infested, and horrible for an innocent puppy to live in. I found this out through the humane society. And yes, they DO have the right to investigate, and honestly I wouldn't care if they did or didn't I'm just happy they found out this information to at least make an attempt to save puppies and put this cruel, disgusting store out of business. I find it very immature the way Joe C. worded his review. If Pets of Bel-Air does not use puppy mills, then why would the Humane Society find DOCUMENTS saying so and claiming that they do - is it because they are big bad bullies picking on the poor little innocent store? Before you even write a review, I highly suggest you read up on the facts and have a more mature outlook. A better vocabulary may help too. I mean, LOOK at the facts. The Humane Society has PROOF that these sick people buy puppies from puppy mills and then LIE about it to the public. I can't see why ANYBODY would support this if they knew the truth. Please tell everyone you know about this and spread the word to stop puppy mills and put Pets of Bel-Air out of business.

HSUS Tricks American Animal Lovers... Again

by Joe O.

By: Joe Overlease
Advocate for Fair and Truthful Reporting

In recent weeks the HSUS, (Not your local Humane Society) has conducted a campaign of terror on unsuspecting dog breeders and pet stores across the United States.

The misconception by the average American is the HSUS is a legal entity having some form of federal authority. They in actuality do not, although they carry official looking badges.. the badges carry no authority in any jurisdiction.

The HSUS have arrived on private property with hidden cameras and have intimated owners to surrender their dogs in fear. They represent themselves as inspectors, but they have no authority to inspect anything. To the unsuspecting and un informed breeder this can be a tragedy beyond belief.

These people (HSUS Inspectors) conduct themselves like the Gestapo, they bully and intimidate, and they use any means of false reporting to discredit their target. By using selective photographs and often make comments about conditions and or events that are not even or have never occurred at the property they are targeting.

Recently the HSUS targeted a Pet Store in Southern California and made the public think they had been conducting business illegally. There report said the Pet Store was buying its inventory form "Puppy Mills". a puppy mill is a
unlicensed breeding facility. Pet stores are required to buy only from licensed and inspected USDA facilities. So they have not lied and they have not misrepresented themselves or their puppies

They the HSUS reported the store only bought puppies from individual breeders. In the business of raising dogs, the entire industry in made up of individual breeders, this is a cottage industry, where the majority of all breeders are small family operations. But to hear the HSUS report you would think Standard Oil is involved in some sinister plot. Again the Pet Store has done nothing wrong, They are buying animals from American breeders who are licensed and inspected and are legal in everyway..

This heavy handed smear tactic has caused a great deal of damage to this local business and the media, happily went along with the scam..

The HSUS report showed examples of kennels and called them "Puppy Mills", to the unsuspecting public they have no reason to challenge the report. But... The truth is most of the kennels shown are state of the art USDA design approved facilities and exceed all federal standards.

The HSUS is a organization that raises millions of dollars each year through a large secret layered organization of so called charities, they spend pennies
for the actual benefit of any animal any where in America. However, most people think when they give to the HSUS they are helping their local Humane Society...Sadly Not one dime goes to your local facilities as they are not even related to each other in anyway.

The next time you get asked to donate for the benefit of animals, you should make sure the money is in fact going to a shelter that really needs the support... Don't be tricked again by the HSUS .

Pets of Bel Air

by Elaine B.

According to the Humane Society, this shop buys it's puppies from puppy mills. Puppy mills churn out litter after litter and the breeding females are kept in deplorable conditions and sentenced to a life of nothing but bearing litters of puppies. Please find out where your pet shop buys their puppies and don't buy from shops that deal in this type of trade. Buy puppies from a reputable breeder.

Pets of Bel Air Supports Puppy Mills

by Anonymous

Not only does this store support the misery of Puppy Mills, so does its customers. In this day and age pleading ignorance to the fact that all pet store puppies come from Puppy Mills is not acceptable.

Responsible local breeders do NOT sell to pet stores.

I wonder what Pets of Bel Air's "celebrity" clients would think if they saw the parents of these puppies, and the filth and disease they live in. I wonder what they would think if they knew Midwest Puppy Mill Brokers were selling these sub-standard puppies to the store for $70 and less.

The only way to Stop Puppy mills is to adopt or buy from a responsible breeders, and to not buy anything (cute collars included) from stores who sell puppies.

Please don't buy pets from pet stores!

by Debbie G.

Just finished reading the NYTimes article about this store. Unfortunately, they are not the only ones. Please do not be duped into supporting these stores who purchase their animals from puppy mills - people who breed animals out of greed and have no vested interest in their health or living conditions. If you want to rescue an animal, please visit your local Humane Society or accredited adoption center. If you prefer a pure breed, the American Kennel Club has a website that will refer you to a reputable breeder in your area. These breeders are dedicated and caring individuals who spend their lives making sure they breed healthy animals. They are up on the latest medical research on any genetic health problems and how they can be eradicated in future breedings. These breeders will educate you, answer your questions, make sure the dog is right for you, be there for you throughout the pet's lifetime with any quesitons, and provide a home for the pet if, for any reason, you decide you cannot keep it. There are local dog shows around the country where you can meet these breeders, interact with their animals, and have your questions answered about which dog is right for your lifestyle. You will find out so much and have a lot of fun talking to these professionals who care so deeply about animal health and care. Thank you. Have a wonderful holiday!

NY Times Reports Pets of Bel Air Selling Sick Dogs From PUPPY MILLS!

by diane k.

Please get informed about this store. There is an article in the NY Times, (www.nytimes.com/2007/12/12/US/12puppies.html), (SEE THE ABUSE FOR YOURSELF - SEE THE LIES THAT THE EMPLOYEES WILL TELL YOU!) The Humane Society sent undercovers into the store to interview employees about where they get their puppies and they LIED.. They are also captured on video saying that they will NEVER EVER advise a potentail customer if a dog is sick....they will NOT tell you truth that these puppies are very sick and will only get sicker. They only want your money. These dogs are overbred in filthy, inhumane conditions and are abused by these puppy mill breeders who are only in it for the money and don't care about the animals.

PLEASE STOP BUYING PUPPIES FROM PETS OF BEL AIR NOW...HELP SHUT DOWN PUPPY MILLS - BUY ONLY FROM REPUTABLE BREEDERS!!

Great pet store!

by Dawn C. | insider Insider | Rank: 31,544

This place is great! They sell really unique collars, leashes, pet clothing and special pet treats. They also sell food and have grooming services. In addition, they have pets for sale and they are always really cute! I buy the special treats every time I am in the area. It is a pleasure to shop in this little store and it is highly recommended.
