Quaint little creole spot on Broadway in Seaside. Had some great gumbo and BBQ sandwich.(love the spice) Could come down on the price for a can of soda.
3We had lunch here last week, The food was Great! They have great sandwiches and they are reasonably priced. But when we got the bill they charged us $3. each for a can of soda. I'm sorry $6 is way too much for 2 cans of soda.... Next time we will order from the take-out side

I'm hooked on their gumbo. And the daily specials are great, like real meat loaf. And the "Big Easy" burger on Fridays. Wonderful shakes and deli sandwiches. A locals favorite. Friendly informal dining or carry out. You can't do better for lunch.

Pros: Great food and shakes
Cons: only open lunch

an extremely popular restaurant in New Orleans. They are for all intents and purposes the bench mark for real Cajun food. I was attracted to Ferdi's because of the previous user's statement - "Best Gumbo". I beg to differ. I've had better Gumbo at Popeye's Chicken (a Franchise). The Gumbo that was served to both my wife and I was ruined. The cook obviously burned the Rue (flour and oil) and didn't bother to start over. The whole thing tasted burned. I think someone tried to blame the "blackened chicken" in it, but it was a burned rue. My red beans and rice was made with Ham and Bacon. (?) I've heard of Ham hocks or Hot links, but ham and bacon? And lastly the Jambalaya was OK. But just OK. What was missing were real Cajun seasoning. The gentle and subtle hints of Terragon. The boiled shrimp heads and shells in the Gumbo broth.
If you've never had Cajun food; I suggest United flight #1404 to New Orleans. Don't start in Seaside. And if you have had great Cajun food; you'll be disappointed at Ferdi's.
I'm really sorry. I had higher expectations. The service was friendly. The neighborhood was not the best (which doesn't bother me) and the cafe was small. But my only complaint was the food was not that good.

Pros: The help was very friendly and courteous.
Cons: The Cajun cooking was not that good.
I can't call myself an expert on Cajun food, but I've sampled Cajun eateries in a number of cities including N'Awlins itself, and Ferdi's has the BEST gumbo I've tried anywhere. It's thick, rich, and savory. Great milkshakes, too! And all at prices that can't be beat. Ferdi's is off the beaten path but well worth finding.

Pros: Outstanding food, friendly staff, great prices
Cons: Location, small dining room, only open for lunch
