El Sol Mexican Restaurant

After months of being told how great El Sol's burgers are, I finally caved and decided to try it out. A lot of my friends and fellow Yelpers have been singing the accolades of the best burgers...at a Mexican restaurant.

I show up, order with eagerness, and my mouth begins to salivate as I await this tasty morsel. They serve it up with fries and a stack of add-ons on the side. Pickles, onions, lettuce, tomato and a pepper. I pile it all on sans pepper (I'm allergic) top it with some steak sauce and give it the once over before biting in.

I hope for divinity or, at a bare minimum, an epiphany. I chow down and begin to savor it but quickly realize that I'm not going to experience my epiphany today. It's not that the burger is bad, it's a good burger but it was spectacularly unspectacular. It could be that I have built up the expectation too much to be attained. I'll have to try it again to see if I'm being unfair. As is often the case, it just didn't live up to the hype.

There are a few burger joints that I like better (Danny's in Coronado, Lucky Buck's in Hillcrest) but the burger at El Sol was good. You'll have to judge for yourself but don't expect too much. I know I did.

This place was a good find. Went here for lunch one weekend when I was passing by and was impressed with the selections. I got the mushroom enchiladas and my boyfriend got a fish burrito which was gigantic!

It is small inside and has lots of random unmatched furniture- but I think that it all adds to the charm. We will be back for sure.... I want to try one of the burgers!
