Trisha Flynn and staff run a great restaurant. Constant new selections on the Happy Hour menu mean we always get to try something new. The service has been great and there is definitely a Capitol feel inside the restaurant. Only downside is that it can get crowded so make sure to get there early if you want a seat.

My husband and I decided to celebrate our 1 year anniversary at Chops. We called and made reservations and the hostess assured us we would have a romantic table. When we arrived at the restaurant we were greeted with a warm welcome and a "congratulations" on our anniversary! We sat in a cozy booth and received excellent service. I loved my pork chops and my husband enjoyed his salmon oscar (topped w/ crab, bearnaise, yum yum yum). Great night out!!

My husband and I were surprised by this treasure in the heart of downtown. A half a block from the State Capitol, the Chops restaurant serves great meals in a sophisticated yet comfortable atmosphere. Mixed reviews on these pages had us on guard. Our experience, however, was terrific. Friendly staff, great food, warm atmosphere and a great bar. Highly recommended.

Food is mediocre at best. Chef Shawna Menard seems to have studied at the Sizzler Culinary Academy. In fact, should have continued with a career tract with Sizzler. The owners Geoff and Trisha Flynn, frequently have public spats in front of customers. Mrs. Flynn throws tyrannical temper tantrums at the staff in front of customers. Just an all around bad experience. For a real culinary experience, Ella around the corner, is exquisite. Even Applebee's would be a fancy dining experience compared to this third rate chop house!

Pros: I did not die because of the bland and tasteless menu.

Cons: I freely gave them money to continue their horrible behavior.

Despite reading mixed reviews, I decided to try it out one night. I understand where there might be a little misunderstanding about the service provided because I did experience it as well. But what made the experience better was that the manager recognized the slow service we got and took it upon himself to actually serve us. He was very professional and accomodating. The food was done the way we wanted it--and you have to be careful with that because the meat cooks a little more raw than usual because of the way it is prepared and handled...aged 28 days at 32degrees. The manager also offered us a complimentary dessert for the rough beginning we had but the service and the meal helped us to forget about it. We shared the 32oz porterhouse with crab cakes and a side of baked macaroni and cheese. It was delicious! Even the day after, cus we obviously could not finish everything, it was still very good reheated. I recommend this place but you definitely have to have one hell of an appetite for it.

I came into to Chops last Feb. 2007- and was really disappointed of how rude the watiresses were and the manager. We were sat in a section that no one was willing to serve us and when we asked for help or direction to another section, the younger waitresses ingnored and sighed. I called the manager the next day and he assured us that he would send me an apology letter and a gift. After, four calls to this manager, I never heard from him and he basically lied to me over and over again, saying it was in the mail....

Never again!!

i have eaten at Chops about 2 years ago and thought it was great. Tonight I was disappointed beyond belief. We ordered Porterhouse for 2 Medium Rare with a salad. The salad was good but when the main course came, it was overdone (more like well done instead of medium rare and cold). The steak was served cut in slices.. I have never seen Porterhouse served this way. I think the cut was actually Tri-TIP and it was served in a sauce (YUCK). We ate the meal and then both had stomach problems later that night because of the over use of meat tenderizers. I will never go back to Chops until I see a packed house. It was very strange to go there at 8 PM Friday without a reservation and be seated quickly with some empty tables around us. AVOID

This steak house belongs to the owners of Sacramento's 4th Street Grille. When you walk in, the dry-aged beef is on display, and the menu is comparable to Mortons, which is about 10 blocks away. Look for great steaks, fresh vegetables, and a fine, gourmet meal. Good wine list and the same service quality you'd expect at the 4th Street.

My husband & I decided on Chops due to one of the reviews. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. We went early at 6 p.m. & were quickly seated. The ambience is nice, the server was friendly, although too pushy with the desert tray (felt like I was buying a used car). The Steaks were awful (overcooked, so they had to re-do my husbands & mine tasted gamey and old (3 bites & I had them toss it) I didn't ask them to deduct from the bill; it's my fault I went there in the first place. We each ordered a cocktail that were still 1/2 full when we left. (not good) They brought us water that tasted as if it came from the bathroom tap (you know, that dusty smell & taste, like the ice sat in the freezer for months on end) The best part of the meal was the Salad (this is extra $$). The total cost of our meal was $114.00 (1 cocktail each, 2 salads, 2 dinner plates) I have been to less expensive steak houses & received a much better meal. This was a waste of money & time.

Go to this restaurant. My husband and I go here all the time and we enjoy fabulous food and great service every time. The prices are reasonable and the waitstaff are friendly and knowledgeable. A must-eat!

I've eaten here several times, as well as gone for happy hour and I must say, this place leaves a lot to be desired. The only positive is how close it is to my office and that the happy hour deals are great.

The lunch hour isn't too bad - they seem to have enough servers but the food can be hit or miss. I have never had a good happy hour experience - the appetizers have always been bland and the service slower than molasses. They've got to hire more servers and perk up the taste of their food.

I also order the clam chowder soup, a bowel which was very good. ($5.95)

The steaks came, along with a potato and carrots. The steaks were just average. Maybe I was just expecting a better steak due to the reviews here and the price.

During dinner we were approached by our waiter if we need anything else, I asked for more water. The water never came to our table.

Yes, we have been to Mortons, and I have to honestly say, there is a huge difference between the two restaurants. Morton wins hands down in every area. It was not even close, the food, the service was much better at Morton. There was a party at the table next to us; they gave the gust of honor a gift certificate. Funny thing is, it was a gift certificate to Mortons.

Total cost of dinner for two, 80.00 (no drinks).

This upscale downtown restaurant is our favorite steak house in town! The service staff from the management to the bar tenders to the waiters and bus boys are the best! We have been taken care of to the max every time we go in! The food is also great, the filet is soooo good. Try the Australian lobster tail if it is on the specials menu! The Bar is also a great place to hang out in!

This is a power lunch place by the Capitol. You will see people who are "big shots" around town here at lunch. It is not amazing but good honnest food in an elegant atmosphere. Like most things in sacramento it thinks it is more impressive than it really is but it is a good eat.

Loved the food here! Their bread comes with a very unique orange tomato(?)/herb butter, and my prime rib was juicy. My date's pork loin chop was DELICIOUS - favorfully seasoned, juicy, and oh-so tender. The mashed potates were a bit bland, but the meat made up for it. Portions are big so we didn't try any desserts, but I would definitely recommend Chops for their steaks and meats!

Well it was a Sunday evening, a friend of mine suggested Chops Resturant. It was a great overall experience. I would suggest maybe add more salad dressing selections.

I ended up here after wandering around downtown Sacramento. As it was very busy (some huge corporate party) I sat at the bar. I found the ambience to be great - busy, dark but efficient with very friendly staff.

After establishing that steak was the thing, ordered the prime rib along with a salad and the peach cobbler for dessert. The salad was excellent, the prime rib was superb and the dessert was great. I was treated well despite sitting at the bar and had a great time. I would tell my friends and colleagues to go here if looking for a good steak.
