Laurens Closet

Went to visit a friend w/new baby in Alameda and thought I'd buy her something while I stepped out. Unfortunately I walked into this store and it sure put a damper on my day. The strollers and other equip that are used seem like good deals, the clothes aren't so hot but, hey, they're used. I was treated very rudely when I asked about items and I know it wasn't personal b/c the lady in front of me was treated worse. Haven't seen anyone like this except for one highly overpriced bridal store in Los Gatos, but there the gowns were thousands of dollars (not that that is an excuse). Stay away from here or risk ruining your day.

i went a couple of times to sell my baby's cloths and i had a person(white lady) in front of me and she had all of faded cloths and were stained and she bought all her cloths and i had name brand cloths like(gap,guess,roca wear,Hilfiger, etC ) and she only bought a shirt of mine so i felt it was racist and i asked for help and they ignored ME THIS STORE NEEDS TO BE CLOSED DOWN

Have visited the store many times,each time hoping that the experience would improve...it never has! The owner is terribly rude, snobby and unfortunately her staff has followed her example. If you want to buy toys & gifts, visit 3 Wishes or Toy Safari next door where the owners are friendly and helpful. If you want to buy clothes, go to TJ Maxx, Old Navy, Pippen Hill or Mervyns where you won't be ignored & will receive far better service!

I have to agree with the previous posters that the store owners are extremely unfriendly and unwilling to help. I have brought clothes a few times and have left with an impression of my clothes not being good enough. Also, you don't know how many clothes they are taking out of your bag and how much you are getting per item. It is almost uncomfortable to ask them any questions. I will not be going back to the store.

I am confused why the store is picky when it comes to buying kids clothing, since the racks are filled with faded, shrunken, and cheap looking clothes. Granted, there are occassional cute items, but I would think the majority would be better looking since so many of my (cute) clothes have been turned away.
Also, the owner (who also is the buyer) is very unfriendly which makes the experience unpleasant. Although I have shopped at this store to use up my "credit" I wouldn't spend money out of pocket here.
If you want nicer service and better looking clothes, go to Lora's Closet on College Avenue in Berkeley. It's owned by the other sister, who is a much more pleasant person!

I went to Lauren's Closet looking for mittens for my baby. First, I was ignored by the salesperson, then I got a total attitude for asking for help. Hmmm . . . something tells me she is in the wrong business.

We have. We live in Alameda & have had too many horrible experiences there. The staff (mother/owner and grandmother are the worst offenders) is rude & doesn't seem to care if you come back or not. Used clothes tend to be a little overpriced. Go to Mervyn's on the Island, items are new, cheaper & staff is friendly!

I agree that the people who work here are NOT nice. I come over from San Leandro to shop and I really feel like they only talk to "the regulars", whomever they are.... Everytime I have gone, I was ignored and treated like an annoyance when I asked a question. We usually end up next door at Safari Toys where we buy a lot. The prices there are great and the service is so friendly. Try there instead of Lauren's Closet; they sell used and new toys and books.

Well this is the place to shop. They have cute clothes,brand names, and major snobs. I think that the staff at Lauren's closet need reality checks. They are in resale of used clothes. You are not at Nordstroms selling Armani suits.

I was really disappointed with the staff. They act irritated when you ask a question and treat you like you're stupid for not knowing. They certainly won't ask you if you need help, you have to bother them to get it. They don't offer anything for a better price than I could get it for new or on Craigslist. Don't waste the trip.

I went into the store and was ignored for 5 minutes. When I finally spoke to the clerk, she told me that it was my responsibility to ask for help an that most of their customers did not need help. There customer service overall is shotty to say the least.

I went here and the prices are almost as high as if I went to a store and bought new.I also went to consign some of my daughter's things and had to wait for the "buyer" to come back in store after being told there is someone to look at your things between 10:00-4:00 everyday. when I bought in the things the lady looked at me and my BRAND NEW WITH TAGS on them things like I was trash. I did not like the employees attitudes.They do not acknowledge you when you come in.They are not polite.

The clothes are not as popular as the ones available in the huge department stores, but here you can find more unique clothes locally. I recommend this store because there are very nice people who work here, dedicated to giving you a comfortable shopping enviornment.

Overall, if you dont care for the brand names, give this store a try and see if you like anything.
