Miraku is a beautiful Japanese restaurant in Walnut Creek. A rock-lined pond in the middle of the Japanese restaurant gives this savory sushi haven a natural elegance. The light wood tables and booths add to the clean, airy feel of Miraku's dining room. Waitresses glide about dressed in kimonos. The Japanese cuisine is delicious and the sushi is fresh. Udon soup arrives in a miniature iron cauldron with a spiny shrimp emerging from the broth. Enjoy crisp and airy Tempura vegetables, ocean-fresh slices of sashimi salmon, yellowtail tuna and ahi which glisten like gems. Miraku offers an extensive list of warm and cold sakes served in attractive traditional wooden boxes. An adjacent noodle bar serving deeply flavorful soups and noodles only adds to Miraku's appeal. Lunch and dinner served daily. Miraku also delivers to Walnut Creek and Lafayette, so call or visit today!

Miraku has very good authentic Japanese food !!!

by Nat C. | insider Insider | Rank: 17,186

Food and atmosphere are very good, clean and great sushi and sashimi and bento boxes. There's a coy pond inside. The ladies wear typical Japanese kimono, shawamushi is good ! Udon very good, pretty much everything is good, a little pricey but conveniently located and very clean.

Miraku is ok

by Matt T. | insider Insider | Rank: 16,605

Nice decor and location. The sushi was ok and I've had better at other locations like House of Sake. That being said I could go back if pressed I suppose.

a nice place

by Vonia P.

I've been here several times. It has a really nice atmosphere -- the decorations are very interesting, fusion of Asian and American cultures. seem to change depending on all the season. The food is very good, and relatively low price. I would never go to again. Nice atmosphere, the wait staff are very friendly. Good place for a business lunch.

Alright

by Chelsea E. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,205

This is an elegant, simple Japanese restaurant with consistently good, traditional Japanese food. As with most places, the quality is dependent on the freshness, and I've never eaten sashimi here that's anything less than perfect.

Nice place

by Sandra W. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 8,118

I have been to Miraku often because my boss likes to give gift certificates to the staff for Miraku. It is conveniently located in Walnut Creek across from Toyota, so you can have your car serviced until midnight and eat dinner. The atmosphere is authentic Japanese. If you are adventerous, order the Kaiseki dinner, which is many courses of small items. If you don't like fish, there is Chicken Teriyaki, and the tempura is delicious.

The only unpleasant experience I have consistently had there is that the owner does not understand that the law in CA for gift certificates is that they cannot expire if they are for a specific dollar amount. My boss usually gives me a $100 gift certificate, we use $80 for the meal, and she gives me back my "change" in another gift certificate with a 30 day expiration date. That is illegal, but I don't argue anymore, because it makes it awkward for my guests. I just throw it away and come back next year with the new certificate. She also won't let me use the "change" as part of the tip, which I don't understand. My boss gave her cash for the gift certificate. Just take the money out of the till and hand it to the waitress, we're even, and the till will balance because I got no change on the gift certificate. This business with the gift certificate always sours the experience at the end of the meal. I guess they like to take the money for the gift certificate, but they don't like to redeem them. Other than that, it is a nice place to eat, seriously.

Lovely food and atmosphere.

by JacklynD

Our family has been coming here for years. The food and service is consistent and the atmosphere is quite pleasant. We particularly like the Chawan Mushi.

Pros: Nice atmosphere, kimonoed Japanese waitresses, high quality food

Cons: Menu has not changed for years

Best Deal for Authentic Japanese Food

by ExTubaMan

"I just had my first meal at Miraku. It was outstanding! I had Yaki Gyoza, Seaweed Salad and Tempura. The food was fresh, tasty, elegantly presented and served, and very reasonably priced. I lived in the Far East for 10 years, including 3 years in Japan and Miraku's food and decor is, in my opinion, quite authentic. I have spent a LOT more money for food substantially inferior to Miraku. I didn't sample the Sushi or Sake, but will do so on my next visit, which will be soon!"

Pros: Ambience, food, authenticity

Not too Shabby

by tbunny

It was a quaint little spot. Service was ok - food pretty good. I am partial to House of Sake in that the staff is much more friendly and the menu is much more clear and elaborate. The ambience at Miraku is a bit different than House of Sake - more booth space I believe.

Parking is a hassle here - like most WC locations. However most of their parking is street parking which always poses more of a problem than a lot that fills up (like House of Sake)

Pros: Location

Cons: Parking and slow service.

New Sushi Favorite

by portageeboy

Looking for great sushi is hard but I was able to find what I was looking for in Miraku. Gracious service, delicious food, & a relaxing atmosphere is commonplace. If you want great sushi at a reasonable price, Miraku is the place.

Pros: Service, Taste

Found my new Japanese Spot

by michelle.castillo

Our quest is over...fresh fish and very reasonable priced. Was packed on a Sat PM. The front of the house staff seemed crazy busy but we had good service once we were seated. The decor was nice Japanese without being over the top. Very mixed crowd. My sushi was delish and my husbands beef teryaki was super tender (make sure you get a side of the tasty teriyaki sauce). Just be prepared to wait on a Saturday night if you get there at prime dining hours (7/8).

Pros: fresh fish, reasonable prices

Cons: waiting in line

Good Sushi, Bad Lip Readers

by rrabinowitz

i've been to miraku twice and both times i've been pleased with the sushi. it's not the best sushi in the east bay, but manages to be the best in walnut creek. the 911 roll isn't as fearsome as it's name, but still offers a mild kick. the fish is fresh and the prices were on par with most other sushi places. you'll want to bring an ear horn to give to the waittress though. apparently, the customer is not right and i managed to order "some hamachi, some hamachi, some hamachi and some hamachi". if you're looking for good sushi in the WC, miraku is a good bet. just make sure you bring a megaphone while ordering.

Pros: decent

Cons: bad service
