I actually can't believe I havent done a review for them yet. This place is THE ONLY PLACE I go to now. If it means driving 2+ hours to get there I dont care. Previous to finding COS I went to a few other shops for piercings only to have them very badly done. The first time I showed up I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the shop, the friendliness of the staff and owner as well as their knowledge. I went in wanting a bridge piercing and after talking to Art we decided it wouldn't work with my structure and instead I got two lip piercings. I was nervous because of past experiences and I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted at first but with some guidance I got 14G rings. We talked for some time before the procedure about the after care and about different piercings. Once we got ready Art took a lot of time positioning them making sure I was very happy with the placement as well as making sure they were far enough down that the rings wouldn't stick out oddly. After that Ive been back for a VCH and needless to say I was a little nervous but there wasn't much pain to it, it was quick and again done very skillfully. I also got vertical nipple piercings done by Art, I had them done horizontally 3 other times by other piercers who placed them badly and they had rejected, were crooked, or never seemed to heal. Again Art did a great job and I haven't had a problem with them. I also went here for my first tattoo [(thanks Culleton!) The experience was a good one, Culleton was very skilled and I nearly slept through getting the side of my head tattooed! Whenever anyone asks me about a good place to go for tattoos or piercings I always tell the about Church of steel and sometimes even give them a card (I always grab some when Im there for this reason). Ive never had work done by Evan or the other tattoo artists but I have seen their work and I have no doubt that they are fantastic!

I went to the Church of Steel with my daughter for her first piercing. The staff was professional and answer all our questions about everything. Yes they are on the high side of prices but you can't put a price tag on something that is going to stay with you forever. I will go back to get my next tattoo there. They were great.

If you are looking for a professional experience with the best artists around then look no further. You won't have to worry about catching anything in this place, its cleaner than my doctor's office and you can tell everyone there is very careful to keep it that way. The staff is so nice and helpful in explaining everything to you. It's not overdone with a bunch of tattoo flash on the walls and loud music. You can actually get a tattoo there and be able to relax at the same time which isn't easy to do. I'm thrilled with my tattoo and I always recommend my friends there because i know they'll be taken care of and have a great tattoo they'll be happy with forever.

This place is well-known downtown. I was recommended by several of my friends to get my piercings done here. Their piercer's name is Evan, and he is as nice as they come. He made me feel comfortable and was very polite. Also, they are arguably cleaner than a doctor's office and now that I have gone there I will never go anywhere else. Go to Church of Steel to get the best experience!

My friends and i decided to get our first tattos when we went to San Diego. We came across this place and one guy that worked there talked the shop up so much that we decided to get one. As we continued to explain what we wanted to the guy he was very hard to talk to but we figured hey he's the pro. My friend decided to go first and had a hard time with the tattoo and the artist was very impatient and said really rude things. Once it was my turn the guy was so irritated that he wouldnt even have a conversation with me. I actaully made him stop a third of the way through and i walked out because he was so rude. It has been two weeks and my tattoo looks horrible. My lines arent even straight and didnt even connect at the points. My shading is really bad to where there are spots all over and many places where he went outside the line. Overall, the owner is really nice but the artist that did my tattoo sucked. Now i have to pay to get mine fixed and finished. It wasnt worth the higher prices. I would never reccommed this place unless the owner is doing your tattoo. The said part is all the tattoo was only three little stars, i mean how hard is that??

If you have been considering getting a body piercing or a tattoo and you have been turned away or turned off by the unclean shops, the un-professionalism, and the ?shady? employees at other places, look no further, Church of Steel is the place to go for all of your body piercing and tattoo needs. Whether you are 21 or 70, the staff at Church Of Steel will help make suggestions that will be the best piercing or tattoo options for you. I give this place a lot of credit for what they have accomplished despite their location (on Broadway, Downtown, San Diego). They keep their shop clean, they keep the graffiti off the walls, and the employees really know their stuff. If you are a big chicken when it comes to needles, that?s okay too, they will work with you to make sure that you know exactly what you are getting yourself into and that it is exactly what you really want. Art Aguirre is not only the owner of Church Of Steel, but also very active in its everyday happenings. He runs a ship shape shop that is sure to satisfy all of your tattoo and body piercing needs. Art?s personality just screams ?this guy knows what he?s doing?, and he is very active in the community. Art has also sponsored The Body Art Expo at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in the past, which is the ?crme de la crme? of body art shops coming together. You know this shop means business. Their prices are competitive. Their records are outstanding, their clientele is loyal, what more could you ask for from a body art shop? Jewelry of course! And their selection of body jewelry is absolutely outstanding, from studs to hoops, they have just about everything you can imagine, including the ?strange?, ?bizarre?, and ?abstract?, and they have it all at extremely affordable prices that you would find at body piercing shops at the malls, only a whole lot more professional than some little hole in the wall shop.

PROS: Staff is professional, well kept and clean store environment
CONS: Prices are costly, but you expect that with this kind of service

These guys have got it. The place is clean, even though it's right in the heart of Downtown and subject to a lot of vandalism over time, and the staff is way cool. They really know what they're doing. And, they're right next to Sushi Deli. Extra points for awesome location.

PROS: Knowledgeable staff
CONS: Grungy outside

Message from Church Of Steel

Hello, my name is Arturo Aguirre, and I have 20+ years experience in piercing and body modification. I consider my role in this industry to be one of great responsibility. My greatest goal in this work is to educate the public, on the whole, of theimportance of doing research before being tattooed or pierced. It is up to you, the consumer, to ask questions and observe any establishment before you consider trusting your health and welfare with a complete stranger. I invite you to come in and see how a relaxed and tranquil environment, along with a warm and knowledgeable staff can make your tattoo or body piercing experience a memorable one.

Tattoos, Body Piercing, Body Jewelry, Custom Artwork, Portrait Tattoos
.

Tattoos

Body Piercing

Body Jewelry

Custom Artwork

Portrait Tattoos
