Greetings, I have been attempting to reach a supervisor to no avail. When trying to call your foundation I was met with extreme rudeness, and the responder on the phone a woman, hung up in my face, and would not let me speak to a supervisor, and she would not give me the company email.

I have been an attorney for a while, and have interacted with numerous people of different personalities. The receptionist is by far the rudest most racist person I have ever encountered in my life, and I have never ever had such poor customer service.

I am baffled that it was a non profit foundation I had called. I have run my own law firm before I became disabled, as well as a non profit organization for economically disadvantaged children, and I have never seen this sort of treatment to another human being.

I will look to see if there are any disability discrimination claims that I may pursue do to my treatment by your receptionist, and how she spoke to me about my disability. This treatment is horrendous, and unacceptable.

Your receptionist makes your entire organization seem fraudulent. If you don't possibly like working with poor people, which I could tell immediately when I spoke to receptionist that she had an issue with me, then your foundation should not offer services if you cannot treat your customers with a modicum of respect.

Have not been there; however I have heard from neighbors and associates who have said that the dogs are in need of help from volunteers to walk them SO PLEASE GO THERE AND HELP THE SWEET DOGS THAT NEED HUMANS TO HELP TAKE CARE OF THEM BY WALKING THEM!!! Yes friends have told me: THE DOGS ARE APPARENTLY SUFFERING FROM BEING LOCKED IN CAGES FOR MANY HOURS ... And also, from what I have been told the women who have power there have been rude and mean to others who would like to walk dogs there! Really! In fact 3 individuals have expressed THEIR SADNESS BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE AMANDA FOUNDATION that THEY CANNOT HELP THE DOGS AND WALK THEM! I asked them WHY? They both have walked and taken care of many dogs for many years... so it seems as if something very mysterious is going on . PLEASE GO THERE BECAUSE THEIR DOGS NEED TO BE TAKEN ON QUALITY WALKS !

I was a volunteer dog walker for a couple months and was consistently treated rudely by the girls who work there. I tried to ignore how rude they were because I was there to walk dogs not make friends. But finally I was sick of being treated like dirt and when i was being reprimanded in a nasty tone for walking a dog without the required chain because he had a plastic cone on his head, I finally told her off. I am not into being abused. When I went to complain to Teri about what rude nasty workers she has, I was shown the door. I will miss those dogs, but not the people there. They don't deserve to run a shelter and Teri obviously sets the tone. They never once said thank you or showed any appreciation for my volunteering. Go somewhere else!

Having perused the few less than stellar reviews of the Amanda Foundation, I feel compelled to put forth a rebuttal. First the facts, I have been a volunteer weekend (and weekdays when I??m off from work) dog walker for going on nine years. Generally speaking, most every weekend a couple hours each time, once or twice a week. I do not work for the Amanda Foundation ?? never have - nor have I any financial stake in them aside from occasional donations that I myself make. That should tell you a lot. I should note as well that just over two years ago, I obtained my two cats from Amanda. Mama having raised no fools, I went to the ??cat room? and didn??t adopt the cats; I let the cats adopt ME. The two that came to check me out were the two I took home. And, yes, we??re doing just fine, thank you.

Never, not once, EVER have I seen a dog treated in any manner other than with kindness, concern and compassion. Never, not once, EVER have I seen any person who has come in treated in any manner other than calm, competent professionalism. Using your reasoning mind, ask yourself this: would I continue to make financial donations to the Amanda Foundation and come in ?? volunteering, mind you ?? nearly every weekend if I thought poorly of this organization?

In reading some of the negative ??reviews,? I must attest that they bear the stench of petty individuals who see a sun rising and setting around them personally, never having been weaned off the milk of their own ego. Whatever ??issues? they have had with Ms. Austin ?? and this is nine years of knowing her - I would bet arose from a simple difference of opinion wherein Teri aligned herself with what was best for the animal in question. No, I was not present at these conversations, but I base my opinion on knowing her and having witnessed her concern for the animals at all cost. I saw her once carefully and lovingly removing dozens upon dozens of ticks (or something of that sort) from the ears of a terribly neglected dog and quipped ?? not to make light of the situation mind you - ??That might just get you into God??s poker game.

Even the kennel cages are impressive. Quite spacious, frequently cleaned, and the blankets laundered with impressive frequency.

To call into question Teri??s professionalism, manners and competence ?? or anyone on the staff for that matter - and post it on a review for all to see, smacks of the ill-founded revenge of a spiteful individual chafing at their wish not being granted ?? perhaps for excellent reason ?? then pulling out the well-used poison pen to compose another dose of written bile, duly shielded of course behind their coward??s mask of anonymity. In short, someone not worthy of the love, fidelity and affection of a fine dog.

And so to recap: Going on nine years, most every weekend, and every donation I make to them is done with pride. Whenever I leave, without fail, they always thank me for coming in. On several occasions I respond that it is an honor to come in. Not just for the dogs, appreciative furry beasts that they are, but to assist in some small measure such a fine group of animal lovers.

So be assured, roll your eyes and shake your head at the petty, bitter diatribes of the ego-infested, take them with a boulder sized grain of salt, and know that the animals taken in at The Amanda Foundation are well loved and well cared for.

This is an absolutely INCREDIBLE organization! Teri is a true force of nature who swung into action when a friend connected me with them on behalf of a very scared and neglected rescue dog that found me on a cold, rainy night in December.

The Amanda Foundation has done more Good for the world and California than any critic will ever realize. Only a true nutcase would say anything negative about them or her. I have several Amanda dogs and know the Org. for 20 years now. Teri Austin has amazing knowledge, courage and devotion to deal with all aspects of pound rescue, city rules, and nutcase individuals. She knows her animals well, and is very careful to match the right home to the right dog and the right dog to the right home. She also realizes how important our pets are to us and that they are family members that deserve our lifetime devotion. Truly, if you hear anything negative about Teri or the Amanda Foundation, you are being misled by someone who should be on medication but isn't. People get mad if they don't qualify to adopt a pet from Amanda. Too bad, their screening process has high standards. Teri stays on point and true to the universal goal of saving pets from being killed at the pounds. That is a task that no one else can claim. Her efforts are tireless. Her volunteers are caring. Each animal is special. LA has many unhappy combative people who lash out. The Amanda Foundation and Teri Austin do not deserve one negative word, and only someone with great ignorance would dispute that. Best from me and my 3 Amanda Alumni. -- Annie

I've visited, volunteered, etc the Amanda Foundation many many times and as a lover of animals i have been shocked and appalled at the behavior of the person who proclaims to be their president, Teri Austin.

Her treatment of the employees - berating them in public, telling them they are stupid, as well as not giving the dogs their meds on time (don't ever leave your dog there!!!! It might as well stay in a closet since the place has no humans at night there), as well as her treatment of volunteers and clients of their clinic - "you're ugly, stupid, an idiot" - the list of things she has done that is so inappropriate boggles the mind. I"m holding back all of the vulgar insults she has said to their clinics customers, employees and volunteers. She has made adults cry with her cruel, mean, vindictive insults.

If you bring you ill pet to their clinic and try to console him by quietly singing or talking to him, be prepared to be told to be quiet - and that's a nice way of putting what she has been known to say.

She is an employee of the city of Los Angeles - she is paid by them for doing spay/neutering yet has denied people access to that service when they qualify along with hurling insults to them regarding certain parts of their body - her rudeness and vulgarity is inappropriate here so I will spare you, But let's just say she needs to be fired. Yesterday. Please.

I will say that she does do a few things very well and that is lying and spinning stories. It's quite amazing! So be prepared to have any problem not be her responsibility since she's "the only one who can get things done." Indeed.

And regarding the post by Kathleen about her experience - I can confirm it. What 'kittygirl 7' saw was NOT what happened and I will place bets was written by Austin. Yes, she is good.

If you want to declaw a cat, she will not adopt to you, yet she ok'd cats to be declawed at their clinic and poo pooed West Hollywood for being the "ONLY city that has it against the law". I would have thought declawing to be against any moral code of an animal rescue, yet a friend of mine was able to get her cat done there. Hypocrisy is another of her skills.

This is a town filled with animal rescues, wonderful ones where you won't be abused or made to feel stupid or insulted AND where the animals get their meds on time and are not used as pawns against people (oh yes, yet another skill of this president). Please donate and volunteer to those until this woman is removed. She claims to love animals, then i wonder why i witnessed her hitting one?

When I go to an animal rescue, I expect to find the person in charge to be compassionate and loving towards animals AND the same towards people. HA! Not the case with Teri Austin of the Amanda Foundation! Not at all! If you love your dog, do NOT take it to the Amanda Foundation! Do NOT board it there - there is no one there at night and the place is about ready to fall down if it weren't for the termites holding each other's hands. Take a look at the kennels! But the WORST is the abusive, vulgar, vindictive, mentally unstable and insane Teri Austin. Your dog will not get it's meds if it is boarded there and you will be verbally abused if you dare to question her. She truly needs to be removed for the way she treats people and the way she treats the animals. She knows how to pile on the charm with her many lies (luvkitty below is her since the only people there besides Kathleen worked there) and spins stories in a way that leaves one speechless. Most of us care about how we treat people - this is one person who clearly does not. Clearly!!!!!!!!!!!! She does spay/neuter for the city which puts her on the city's payroll - i wonder how the mayor would feel if he knew how rude and insulting she is to people wanting to help their animals. I had to select a star rating and there is no 'piece of crap' rating so that's why there is one star selected.

Kathleen M, in her commentary above, comes off as accurate and credible. I am both a customer of Dr.Geoff Stein, (an outstanding vet who I trust with my own rescues) at Shipp's Animal Hospital (under the same roof as the Amanda Foundation) and a volunteer dog walker for the Amanda Foundation. Today one of the toy dogs that boards there (described to me as a "lifer" because he is unadoptable due to his vicious nature) was being walked back to his kennel on a loose (poor discretion) leash as he ran around a corner and from behind and bit me, puncturing and tearing the back of my leg as I was selecting a leash to walk another dog. The walker was apologetic and I assured her there was no problem. When I walked past the front desk and jokingly commented that today wasn't my lucky day, I was appalled as Teri Austin condescendingly replied "you obviously don't know what you are doing". Unfortunately this conduct is consistent with Ms. Austin's attitude as experienced in the past by the undersigned. Note to Ms. Austin: Yes, your hard work goes to a good cause, but if you could learn to be a bit more polite and offer a kind word once in a while, it would be a lot easier for everyone. Further Note: I have rescued dogs and other animals for over forty years in the toughest of situations. I am not disputing what you may know but if you would know what I forgot, you would know a lot!

I volunteer at the Amanda Foundation and I was in their parking lot on my way home when I witnessed the incident Kathleen M describes....only I saw something very different. The foundation was closing for the day, that's why I was leaving and so were several of the staff
including Ms. Austin, when this crazed woman screeched into the parking lot, jumped out of her car
screaming "where do you think you're going?" She then
started to berate the staff because "she left her
church group early to pick up her pet and they better
give him to her". She was extremely rude, the staff looked shocked and the only profanity I heard was
this woman calling the staff "f***$ B*&#tches".
I volunteer at Amadna regularly and I see all types come in for service, some nice, some not so nice.
This woman had some kind of anger problem and
was very unpleasant. I hope she's nicer to the dog she was picking up! I love the Amanda Foundation, I have seen so many people adopt from them that become
total fans. You can tell how caring and kind the staff
is to all the pets they take care of. I would urge anyone to come and volunteer! They are open 7 days a week, 365 days a year! I don't know any other rescue that
has that kind of access.

Just have to comment that I was at Dr. Shipps when Kathleen M drove up, close to 7:30, I volunteer and was getting into my
car. I saw a very different scenario that what she says. I saw her jump out of her car very angry that the staff were all walking towards their cars and starting screaming that
"they weren't going anywhere until I get my dog" she was incredibly rude and it was her that I heard call the staff
"f***ing B***tches, the staff looked really shocked and I didn't hear any of them swear at all. The funny thing was that she was yelling that she had to leave her church choir early in order to pick up her dog! I wonder what kind of church experience she has?
I sure didn't see any "love thy neighbor on her part" I don't know what her problem was but the staff including Ms.Austin seemed to try to get her the dog and get rid of her pretty quickly. Big anger management problem on her part, pretty loony. I volunteer at The Amanda Foundation often and am always impressed by how caring the Amanda people are to both people and their pets. I've seen so many dogs and cats that they've taken in that I don't think anyone else would and then find them great homes. I urge everybody to come and see for yourself. Come adopt a dog or cat, that's what its all about!

The Amanda Foundation came to Santa Ana do a free nueter/Spay I took my 10 month old Rottie. My dog did not make it, the Amanda foundation asked if they can do an autopsy on my dog i agreed because i wanted to know what exactly happened. Apparently he had a tumor, we thought we had a healthy 10 month old rottie. SO it just goes to show you never know. Since then they have been very helpful they offered to get him cremated for us even gave us his paw print that we are going to use to get a tattoo of our baby boy. We will always miss our Romo

Teri Austin, President of the Amanda Foundation - - Today
I rescued a wonderful cockapoo puppy from Animals Rule in Long Beach that required I have him neutered by Shipps Animal Hospital in BH which is one of the vets they have in their network. They appear to share a building with the Amanda Foundation. While not exactly convenient I followed all the rules and took him there as the neutering was included in the adoption fee. They told me several times that he would be ready at 5 but I could pick him up as late as 7:30. When I called at 4:30 I was told he would not be ready until 7 as they had some other emergencies at the hospital but I could still pick him up by 7:30. I arrived at 7:10 and was met by two vet techs and a woman who later told me she was Teri Austin, President of the Amanda Foundation, who informed me that they were closing and I could not get my dog. To repeat the conversation verbatim would astound you so I will just say that I have rarely encountered someone as rude, profane, and disrespectful as Teri Austin. Besides yelling insults at me and telling me to leave, she behaved like a midddle school girl who was hormonally out of control. One would think that a 53 year old woman who is an animal advocate would behave more humanely. I regret that my wonderful experience adopting my sweet rescue pup was marred by dealing with Ms. Austin. I cannot imagine ever recommending this hospital or the rescue organization to anyone in the future. I will thank one of the vet techs who retrieved my puppy and went over the post-op instructions with me. I am sorry I did not get her name. It must be difficult to work there.

My family has been involved with the Amanda Foundation for over 5 years now. When our older boy had his Bar Mitzvah, he chose to volunteer with them as part of his preparation. He loved them and the wonderful work they do for animals so much that he ended up arranging for his Bar Mitzvah guests to donate money to the Amanda Foundation instead of giving him gifts. Now our younger boy has chosen to do the same thing, and is very happy to have a chance to volunteer there too. The organization is obviously totally dedicated to its mission of rescuing, working with and then placing animals appropriately, and they put in whatever amount of time is needed for each creature they work with. They have been great to volunteer with too. THANKS GUYS for all that you are doing!

I was confirmed TWICE with this organization and when I got there I was told to go home. Because they weren't spaying/neutering cats.I didn't get a sorry just attitude from everyone when it wasn't even my mistake it was their own lack of communication. I had a nice check to donate both time ( I don't make much but I saved for a while to get that amount in my bank account). They vets or volunteer just said we aren't doing cats today I don't know what else to tell you.I would hate for someone to go through thats why I'm writting this.

The Amanda Foundation has a great reputation and I have only seen great things come from this place. I've volunteered here in the past and have only seen them find loving homes for these abanoned pets. The staff her is very gentle, caring, and considerate. You can go onto their website and see their current pets that are available for adoption. They're really doing a great thing at this establishment and I totally recommend you going here before visiting your local pet store to find your new forever family pet. They have a variety of dogs there and a very informed staff that can help you with any questions, concerns, or information that you may need.

I worked at a facility which decided to involve pet therapy as a patient program. A co-worker had a contact with The Amanda Foundation, and they began supplying our facility with dogs for this new program. The patients who participated thoroughly enjoyed this activity. The dogs were screened and determined by Amanda staff to be appropriate around older patients. Their volunteers brought the dogs to our facility, and the program took off. They did this for five years. Wonderful people, great program for abandoned animals, and finally, a great help to facilities that utilize a pet therapy activity.

This is a wonderful organization. The love and care they have for the animals is amazing. They work hard to match you with an animal always making sure that the animal is placed in the right home. The staff is so knowledgable and attentive to the animals and answers whatever questions you might have.

This is a first rate organization. They matched my wife and I with two great dogs. Amanda saves most of their adult dogs from the pound. They know each dog as if it were their own. Every potential owner and animal is scrutinized for the perfect match.

We got two dogs from these guys. What a great place! The rescue is housed in a vets office in Beverly Hills. They matched us with two of the best animals. I can't say enough for their compatibility with each other, with us and our cat. www.amandafoundation.org they can always use volunteer dog walkers too!
