Santa Monica Pier has alot of room for fishing and it is very nice and peaceful at night. The fishing is at the end of the pier and on a bit lower deck so you have privacy but bring a friend and some people bring music and end up just sitting and talking and meeting new people.

My family and I really enjoyed our experience at the pier. They have a very pleasant and knowledgeable staff and they helped out a couple of us rookies who were new to fishing. Their shop was well stocked and reasonably priced. The place was not very clean and yes it smelled like fish - ewww!

To me there is nothing more enjoyable then fishing, I don't have to catch anything to relax and enjoy it...... Something about the water, smell, waves just lowers my blood pressure it seems.... It is a place for me to think..... Then Santa Monica Pier has alot of room for fishing off of it..... They have fresh bait to buy and all the equipment you might need..... I have caught everything from a sand shark to a fish that stung me and I had to be rushed to the hospital, I forget the name of the fish, it has been decades since that happened..... There are alot of people fishing for food off the the pier, personally, I WOULD NEVER EAT anything that I caught, I would give it to people fishing around me.... The Santa Monica Bay is too dirty to eat the fish...... But when some peoples systems are use to a certain type of bacteria in their systems, then it does not make them sick.... There is also alot of stuff that can be done on the pier if you get tired, there are games, rides, restaurants, the boardwalk below that you can take to Venice Beach..... All kinds of things to keep you there and happy.....

PROS: Park on the Pier, it is $10, but you won't have to lug your stuff around.

This cozy little place in the santa monica pier has all the things you need for fishing in the pier.The very helpful& friendly man behind the counter is very knowlegeble about the bait and fishing practices. The shop also has some curios and trinkets tobuy as soveniers.
