4 Stars: Bluestocking Books (by Hillcrest R.)

I love books and I loved this bookstore. It was so clean and fresh feeling. There was no clutter and no musty smell. It was well organized and it was easy for customers to ask for information. The owner of the store for the last ten years, Kris, was friendly, polite and full of information for the customers. She owns the store because she loves books and it shows. Among her favorites are Tolkein, Harry Potter and biography. If you want a good used and new bookstore, this is where to go. Bluestocking Bookstore also has a Book of the Month paperback at 25% off.

5 Stars: A San Diego book institution (by Greg N.)

This place (along with Adams Ave Books, and Wahrenbrock's) is a real book institution of the city. Good selection, and a very friendly and helpful staff. They've done a lot for the community by supporting local authors and book groups and by planning valuable local events.
A caveat for those looking to sell books: they only offer trade. For trade, though, I recommend them. The amount they offer has always been fair.

5 Stars: Great independent (by Matthew B.)

I've been to Blue Stocking a couple of times, and it was always a pleasant experience. It specializes in independently published books and zines and has a great selection of postcards and stickers as well. Expect funky looking staff and a Hillcrest clientel.

PROS: Great independent selection, particularly art books.
CONS: Parking can be a bit rough in this neighborhood.
