Family friendly

by Stacie H. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 7,053

Ebisu has good food with reasonable prices. The food is consistent too. I do have to agree that the service has a lot to be desired, however management is good about "fixing" the problem. When I go there with my young son, they are quick to bring out a small dish with character utensils to make him a little happy camper. It definitely takes a bit of time, but for the food and the prices, it's well worth the time!

Best Ramen!

by Miney J. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,088

Ebisu has such good ramen. I like the miso ramen with chicken. They have a large variety of desserts and such, but I usually go with the mochi ice cream.

The service is not so great. I've sat there more than once with no service for 10 to 15 minutes, but the ramen is so good I can deal with it.

Great Lunch Special

by M. J. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,051

Their food is really good. I especially like the lunch special because 2 people can eat for $15 plus tip. In fact, I could not finish it and got the pork fried rice to go. The drink with the special was a little small though (about 8 ounces). This restaurant is moderately priced (about $6.50 to $8.50 for a dish/soup). The place is clean and inviting. It's a nice place for a casual lunch.

PROS: Clean..............Lunch special.............Good food
CONS: Wish the lunch special was all the time.....It could be just the "Special"

Best Ramen Shop in OC

by sandra w. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,297

Absolutely the best place around for ramen... Their Mahbo Ramen is delicious. Gyoza are great as well. In fact I haven't had a bad thing here and I have eaten here at least 100 times! Service is great and they finally started accepting credit cards. Kid's menu is okay and parking is ample. Highly recommend!

A wonderful Ramen house

by Marie K. | insider Insider | Rank: 17,163

I wish there were a few more ramen houses around the OC area. I love the ramen places in the Gardena, Torrance area. This ramen place is just okay. I would have to admit that the miso ramen is the best. The flavoring is very good. Their other good product is their potstickers and shumai. They are very good. I would assume that they are homemade like everything else is there, that's probably why it is so good. Their rice dishes are not that good and their dessert is very good as well. Regardless of the dessert that you try, it's good.

Great food, terrible service...

by pik0

Okay, hands down, the Katsudonburi is over the top. It's a favorite of my wife and I. The only place we've found in OC that serves it is Ebisu. So, for that, we endure the long waits for a table and even longer waits to order and be served.

It's a ying-yang thing, I guess. In spite of the great food, the terrible service always leaves as with a bad feeling. So, we only go about once a year. On our most recent visit, the server was so scattered brained running around the restaurant that she forgot half our order, but still put it on our bill. Kinda bizarre as the place only has about 15 tables. It's not like some resort restaurant in Downtown Disney, so I don't get it.

The manager came over to apologize for the missed delivery, to which I suggested that service always seems to suffer at Ebisu. All he was could say was "sorry". I think they need a professional efficiency expert to help them get organized... :)

One other footnote, the strip mall in which the restaurant is located, while it is going through some urban renewal, it always has that Ghost Town feeling. Trash strewn everywhere, parking lot full of potholes and sidewalks covered with chewing gum. There's some serious deferred maintenance here.

Pros: Awesome food. Killer Katsudonburi.

Cons: Terrible service and lackluster ambiance and locale. Definitely NOT a romantic date spot, though it could be some day.
