yeah i love altadena hardware but to be truthful i didn't go back in because when don sold the store to the bike store guy alot changed yeah some for the good but steve was never there to help and he didn't enforce any dress code especially one employee african american had his pants down to his knees now to me that's very disrepectful. not a proper way to be at work. but i went in today and i was greeted with a "hello how are you today sir" now it wasn't the original lady who has always beeen there eleanor but her niece now runs the register while eleanor does the "behind the scene work" but as i was soon to find out eleanor's son richard has been working there for 5 years brang is cousins in to help so its still a family run buisness. overall i find the experience the same when don was there running the store.

this is the second part of my posting... but as i was saying not only was i met with a nice friendly greeting by vanessa but i was helped by skilled workers now yes i do admit i doubted he might not know what he was talking about but richard and tony were extreamly helpful with the screws and brackets i was looking for. the little boy who was at the register also very surprised me at what ne knew the guy before me had a store account and he greeted him by name and even said "would you like this on your account sir"... over all i can't describe how helpful and knowledgable and happy these workers were... and to tell you the truth i was a little surprised they are all mexican but they speak perfect english and know what they are talking about and if they don't they admit it and try there hardest to find someone who can help you

Don, presumably the owner is truly an ethical, and helpful man. He likes what he does and is extremely generous with his time and knowledge. This is a first class shop - it makes Altadena that much more special.

From the red wagons in the window to the little drawers with nuts and bolts in the back, this is the place to get basic hardware supplies, the kind of unusual items you only find in Mom & Pop stores, and knowledgeable advice from owner and clerks alike.

This place opened in the mid-1920s and has been owned by the same family for three generations. This results in a real pride in helping customers find exactly what they need.

I went in with an old jar of putty once, thinking it was too old to use, and the owner told me it was fine. He could have sold me a new jar, but his ethic was to help me rather than sell me something I didn't need. I ended up buying a skillet I had been needing which I hadn't been able to find anyplace else.

You won't find fancy fixtures or tons of useless stuff the big boxes want to sell, but you will find great help, the basic supplies, nuts and bolts and nails and flanges by the piece, and yes, skillets and red wagons.

Altadena Hardware is a neat throw back in time, but with modern conveniences. It is not Home Depot, nor does it try to be. If you are working on something at home and need a few odds and ends, this is much more convenient than trekking all the way down to a larger store. The folks here are very friendly and knowledgeable and will take the time to work with you and get exactly what you need.

This quaint little hardware store has been around for years. It is located near North Lake Avenue, and Webster's Stationary store. It is a small store, but it has all the essentials. The sales people are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They have often helped my family with projects and now know us by name.
