Great Tan offers a variety of tanning beds and services ranging from low pressure to high pressure beds. A few of the tanning beds offered by Great Tan include Ultrabronz 950 high pressure, Soltron WAVE medium beds, Sun Capsule medium standups, Tan America low standups, Sun Sector low beds, and Mystic Innovation UV-free spray tan booths. This salon was named in the Top 250 Salons in Looking Fit Magazine in 2008.
Great Tan is your typical tanning salon - clean facility offering the Mystic Tan, which is my preference. I'm really picky with my tanning faciilties and this one didn't disappoint.

Im from SOCAL, I know the sun and I know tanning. Great Tan is the best salon that i have found in the city. They have the best range of tanning beds and stand-up booths. Their staff is very knowledgable about their equipment and products, and really has the customers best intrest in mind. Most tanning places just want your money and dont care how often you tan. Great Tan acually encourages you not to tan everyday because its better for your skin and better for building your tan. Another perk is the size of the salon and quantity of beds, theres almost never a wait, they can always fit me in. If you like to tan and you know what you like...Great Tan is the place, you will be pleased!
Pros: Free Parking, multiple locations, great service

I went there couple of years ago and never again. Did not even use all of my paid time because staff was so unbelievably rude especialy a girl that refused to explain anything I asked. I couldn't believe it. I thought she must have been underpaid and very unhappy with her job but honestly I don't think I should worry about that when going tanning and paying for it. I am glad I found this site to let possible clients know: Stay away from the place, since employees don't want to see you there anyway.

Great Tan is absolutely great! Besides the fact that the prices are the best in the city, Great Tan gives free tans if you refer other clients - which makes it perfect for my sorority sisters and I to tan on a college student budget. They also always have sales and daily specials going on on products and sessions. It's right in the center of the city (a couple of blocks away from the University of San Francisco) AND has a huge, free parking lot (even better for SF State or commuter students)!
They open at 7 am and close at 9:30 pm on weekdays so I can definitely fit tanning time into my schedule. It's super clean and the staff is knowledgeable and honest; they never seem to just want to make a sale.
Classes are starting soon so come in, open an account, tan in a bed or Mystic, and start referring all of your friends, sorority sisters, or just the freshmen!
Pros: Everything is great! Service, prices, parking
Cons: Absolutely no cons!

Great Tan has a lot of tanning beds and they take care of them, so I always get color there.
The single tan price is pretty high, but the packages and specials and sales make them very good on costs-theres first time deals, morning specials, and a big sale on the fifth Sunday of any month with 5. Face it, anywhere you go tanning is expensive in San Francisco.
Their new salon on Union Street is all new equipment, and the equipment at Geary/Masonic is a mix of brand new and older stuff. They have the talking Mystic Tan booth and some cool purple lay down beds. The older beds at Geary dont look as nice but still give excellent color.
The staff is friendly and know what they're talking about. And theres a huge parking lot right in front of the Geary store--an amazing find for those of us who drive.
Anyway, these guys have been in business a long time and know what they're doing. I recommend them!!

Nice tanning salon, bulbs are new and I rarely have to wait. Staff is always changing and sometimes off in another world.
Pros: New beds, No wait
Cons: $$$$$$$$, Staff

I got great results from both the Mystic Tan and the beds/booth. Unfortunately I had to cut way back on my visits because it was just too expensive :( I was surprised to read the negative review by sffran, because the staff was always great to me. Also, this place is super clean, and they always leave a piece of candy for you when you use the beds or the booth. The bathroom is clean, and they have a cold water cooler in the back, perfect for when you're all hot after using the beds. They even have an ATM on site!
Pros: friendly staff, good tans, parking & cleanliness
Cons: cost, cost, cost

You can't beat an 8$ dollar tan in this city, I used to tan at Golds, but the bulbs never seemed to be changed. I tried Great Tan because of a friend and I stayed. The parking is great, I can roll out of bed and tan before the gym and not have to pay for parking or drive around for hours trying to find some.

After reading the review by sffran, I was leery about using the Mystic here. I like to be treated well. When I went to Great Tan, I had a wonderful experience. The staff was not only friendly and outgoing, but they showed me tips and tricks the demo video didn't go over. I think my hands would have been a mess if they hadn't done that.
I highly recommend Great Tan. They have 2 Mystic booths, one with clear, and one with bronzer. It is to my understanding that both are premium solution that last from 5-7 days.
Great product and free front door parking (awesome when it rains...you dont have to worry about your tan running if you are parked 20 feet away)
Pros: Great product, friendly staff/clean , free parking

I have never myst tanned before so I thought that I would try it. The staff was so rude that I will never go back. They offered no instructions, laughed when I asked questions, and wouldn't explain the color level differences to me. I have never been treated so badly before. Great product and I liked the tan but beware....do not go there for your first time.
Pros: Parking, No wait
Cons: , Expenisve

A safe alternative to indoor tanning, Mystic Tan finally makes its debut at this San Francisco salon! Self-tanner/bronzer/aloe vera mist, is sprayed on evenly, with no orangy color or streaks! Check it out
Pros: plenty of parking, safer than UV lights, professional staff
