Antiquated bookstore

This bookstore has NOTHING new. In fact under its "New Releases" section were sitting books that were at least 2 years old. This bookstore has a vast array of arcane, and outdated books that no one in their right mind will probably buy.
There is not anything that warrants a visit to this place: especially considering that there is a MAJOR BOOK CHAIN located directly across the street. As far as prices go, there is nothing spectacular about this place.
Absolutely terrible selection.

Pegasus & Pendragon Books is a great little bookstore that has a pretty collection of used books. It is not as big as Moes bookstore though. Pegasus also sells used music CDs as well as new ones. Their books are well organized and the used ones are in great condition. The staff there are also very friendly and helpful.

Pegasus & Pendragon Books & Music is a good bookstore to go to if youre just browsing for books and not searching for some obscure novel that came out says 15 years ago. Bottom line is, if you cant find the book youre looking for at Barnes & Noble, youre not likely to find it at this bookstore either. But, outside of Costco, this bookstore has great prices for recent bestselling books.

sweet

There's something rather satisfying about supporting independent bookstores, especially when they're located directly across the street from a giant corporation vying to outsell them. Pegasus is smart and clean, friendly atmosphere with a huge selection of alternative magazines, used books, and even a bit of music.

I love this place, they have a good variety of books from all over the world, they also have books in different languages. The best thing about this place is that you can save money by buying used books which look just like new. It is a few steps from UC Berkeley.

Many people discover the unassuming Pegasus & Pedragon during their yearly calendar clearance. If you can stand to be calendarless through the first few weeks of a new year, you can buy that same Crazy Cats or Salvador Dali calendar here for just a couple bucks. Oh, yeah, also they have books at good prices and a large selection of magazines.

Pegasus is part of the Pegasus/Pendragon line of independent bookstores around Oakland and Berkeley. Pegasus on Shattuck Avenue is a large airy space that carries both new and used books, CDs, stationery, magazines, etc. Its staffed by folks who seem to be English majors at UC, Berkeley and they are usually very helpful. Its a nice store to get lost in. A great alternative to spending your hard-earned money in a corporate superstore.

Great Little Book Shop, Low Prices

This is the anti-Barnes and Nobels (across the street). They have a good selection of new and used books. The books they seem to carry are more for the serious reader, and they tend to have some really good recommendations.
Its not as overwhelming as B&N, across the street. It's a smaller shop, but I always stop in there. They let me bring my older, well-behaved dog on leash and give her treats...
Also this is THE PLACE to buy calendars on sale on Jan 1. (3 for $8) ...
PROS: Small, Great Rec's., Friendly, very Berkeley
CONS: Does not carry every title in the world. In that case use Amazon or B&N.
