This is a review of the Magic Castle, NOT THE HOTEL.
The Magic Castle is a wonderful place for magic. Hidden in the hills not far from the hollywood bowl. Take your friends for a special ocassion. This is not some sort of Clown magic, this is quality magic done by quality magicians. The drinks are pricey, but other than that the M.C. rocks.
World class magic. Thumbs way way way way UP.
My husbands company had their Christmas party at the Magic Castle. The food was good, the magic was amazing. Often you sit in the back of a magic show and you think, if you were closer, you could see how they do it. At the Magic Castle you are close, really close, I was even at the table with the magician (as his assistant), and I still couldn't figure it out. Don't miss an opportunity to visit.
This is an awesome hotel in a prime location on Highland Ave, right next to Hollywood Blvd. It's only a 2 minute walk to Grauman's Chinese Theatre and the Kodak Centre. The staff are very friendly and accomodating and the rates are very reasonable for it's location. The only downfall I can think of is that the rooms could do with a slight refurbishment, but apart form that, it's still a great place to stay
You definitely want to save up for this one. But for a fun dress up night on the town this is the place. The open sesame to get into the castle. The magical piano. The magicians that roam. The place is amazing. Beatuiful. Classy. Very very fun place to visit. Pricey but well worth every penny
If you can manage to get a member to invite you, you should definitely go. The food is good, and the magic is top-notch. The up close magic in the small drawing rooms is particularly amazing. I have been twice, and it has been a different and mind boggling experience each time.
We had a fabulous time here. The scene is set immediately when you have to say the magic word to gain entrance into the castle through a moving bookcase. Plan to spend some time with the ghost at the piano. She will answer any question with a song played on her piano. The food is is good, but the experience is awesome. You can only gain entrance through an invitation by a member.
I have always wanted to check out the Magic Castle & finally got a last minute invite. I definitely was not disappointed!!! There was a secret bookcase that moved to let you enter... a ghost who plays the piano & takes your requests (someone made a joke that it wouldn't know any Bob Marley... and it actually started playing "Three Little Birds"!!!)... portraits on the wall with moving eyes.... Everything I ever thought it would be! I can't comment on the food or anything as the other reviewers did since I went for drinks later in the night but I can say it was an excellent time!
PROS: IT'S A MAGIC CASTLE!!!, great atmosphere, great bartenders
Some friends took me here and I was prepared to cringe through the entire night. I mean a magic show? And any time someone says a place is "classic LA" you know you're in for a crappy experience. The joke was on me though because I had a great time. Some words of wisdom for future visitors: 1) Guys, make sure you have a jacket and tie on or they'll turn you away. 2) Ladies, if you're wearing a pantsuit you must also wear a suit jacket. If you don't they will provide you with the tackiest one they can find. 3) Eat before you go and order the most inexpensive stuff on the menu. The food sucks. 4) See as many shows as you can and order some fancy cocktails. The place is a riot. You'll have a great time. We even went on Sunday and there was a good crowd. The magicians are excellent and pretty funny. The setting is like the Munsters opened a bar/hotel. Don't forget to say "Open Sesame" to the owl to open up he secret door at the front.
PROS: Fun, Unique Evening Out
CONS: Expensive. Bad Food.
Located close to Hollywood boulevard this is an excellent place to stay in LA. The rooms are quite spacious and comfortable and you have a full kitchen to cook your own mean. The staff and the service is courteous and professional. The breakfast is good and you can park your car very near to the hotel at reasonable prices
The location of this hotel is pretty good. You won't find luxury here, but you might find comfort. The rooms are affordable. The service here isn't bad. It's close to the Walk of Fame, which is convenient. I liked that there was free Internet access. Nice place, might stay here again.
My wife and I were invited by a member (and good friend) to attend the Magic Castle for our anniversary. It was the most expensive meal we have ever eaten--and definitely not worth the money. It was a slow night at the Caslte, and one could feel the desperation in the air. We were hounded to purchase drinks all night long.. They would even hold up the magic shows so that the drink girl could ask every person there if they wanted to purchase a drink!! Also, when my wife asked for water with her meal they brought a $6.50 bottle of water! But when I looked around at other tables I noticed they had glasses of water not bottles.. Unbelievable! The magic shows were enjoyable, although I found the fellow magicians in the audience to be a bit 'bitter' and territorial. We had been wanting (& waiting) to visit for so long and the experience was truly a let down.
You need an invitation from one of the Magic Castle's members in order to pay a visit to this interesting place. Dinner is required and definitely overpriced for what you get (minimum $15 per person but the cheapest entree on the menu is a regular salad for $15!) Magic shows are scheduled in various rooms. The one act we saw was not very good and the guy spent more time making jokes and showing us magic. Good to go once for the experience but not twice.
A private clubhouse, entrance into the Magic Castle is by invitation only if not an Academy of Magical Arts member. Once inside, the castle is fantastic with decadent restaurant, (3) theaters where magicians perform for guests, full bar, and Invisible Irma (the piano-playing ghost) tickles the ivories. Strict evening dress code (coats and ties for men and evening wear for ladies (cocktail dresses or pantsuits). Open 7 day a week, the castle is available for events or sances (request for the Houdini room).
PROS: Fantastic fun! Magicians performing in any number of venues
CONS: Strict dress code; entrance by invitation only and finding the hidden door
Nothing fancy about this hotel, but it's clean and the location is great with its proximity to Hollywood/Highland, Mann's Chinese, etc. They have a few rooms that are apartment-sized with kitchens and multiple bedrooms. I live in L.A., but had about 10 family members stay here in a few rooms over New Year's weekend.
PROS: Free Parking, Great Location, Big Rooms
CONS: Not for Those Seeking Luxury
This is a modest hotel that is on its way to being renovated, but it could not possibly improve its personal service: they will take care of your needs--even if they have to do it personally at some local place--and anything promised is always fulfilled, no matter the time of day or night. The rooms may be no frills, the service is 4 Seasons.
Went here once to see the magic. The food was VERY expensive and you have to eat it. But it's an experience everyone in LA has to do once. A true LA "must."
I'm sure the hotel is great for tourists, but I've never been.
Pros: Good location
Cons: Average food
From the front desk, to the room attendants, everyone was exceptionally welcoming, warm and friendly, surely something I didn't expect on my first visit to Hollywood. My teenaged daughter and I felt so at home at Magic Castle, and will stay again.
Pros: great staff, great suite
Be conversational: Write as if relaying your experience to a good friend.
Be thorough: Mention your favorite products or services offered by this business, such as menu items, home delivery or spa treatments.
Be local: Identify the neighborhood where the business is located and mention nearby attractions when relevant.
Pros: Great Breakfast
Cons: What are the drawbacks?
Truly unparalleled customer service. I can't think of a place I've stayed with more personalized service, anywhere in the world. And such a fun place to stay! Free mini-bar and free movie dvds, a pool that is open 24 hrs, great help from the front desk staff if you are staying with kids, access to the private Magic Castle club, rooms with views beyond compare and space space space - many rooms include full kitchens and bedroom/front room arrangements with 2 tv's. Did I mention the free treats and mini-bar snacks? Last but not least, again, the service: whatever you are doing in LA, the staff will give you detailed assistance if you are doing business in LA, just coming to enjoy the sun with the family, or are out to hit all the best restaurants or site-see. Be sure to ask for pool toys, too, if you're going to take a dip!
Pros: views of downtown LA, free mini bar, dvds
This is by far the best deal in Hollywood! Free snacks, Free internet & Free heated pool! It is close to everything in Hollywood, the Kodak, Graumans, The Walk Of Fame, Universal Studios, CBS, Beverly Hills & the Subway!! How can you go wrong?
Pros: Service!!! Service!!!! Service!!!
The staff at the Magic Castle Hotel are amazing. They make every effort to ensure you have a wonderful stay and are very knowledgable about the City and locations of places. We recently visited with a large group for the national championship game, and the staff decorated the lobby with our team colors for when we returned. It was fantastic! I had a wonderful experience and will return for another visit soon!
I've stayed here several times, though not with my family, since I was here for the purpose of going to The Magic Castle, but I've witnessed the fun families with children have been having. For me, with a welcoming greeting at the front desk followed by help up the stairs with bags, I instantly feel very comfortable every time I'm there. What a pleasure it is to be able go back to the desk and request milk, soda or wine plus an assortment of snacks...all with no charge and all so cheerfully given. Sometimes the folks at the desk seemed to know what I needed (such as directions or a taxi) almost before I did! It's a homey, comfortable place with a caring staff: a good spot for one and all!
Pros: "Service with a smile" examplifies The Magic Castle Hotel
Cons: None, really
Had my wedding @ Yamashiro and myself and my guests stayed at the magic castle hotel. They were fantastic. Coordinated everything, made that part of my wedding weekend worry free. Everyone loved it. If I could give them 10 stars I would.
This hotel is great if you are planning on doing the Hollywood Blvd. experience. It is literally a block away, which is great because you can walk around and don't have to travel far to get back. Its also great, because if you're planning on partying, you don't need a cab. The other service they offer is free DVD rental. This place is great for families. We stayed in a suite and had a full bathroom, kitchen and 2 beds. It reminded me of a nice apartment. Very comfy.
Pros: free snacks 24 hours, heated pool, close to Hollywood Blvd
Cons: Noisy at night
I stayed here for one night. It was my husband's birthday and there was a small cake waiting for us, which was a surprise to both of us. I'd asked for the nicest room they had - they gave us a free upgrade to a suite. They allowed us to check out an hour later for no fee. The room had free wi-fi and there were free snacks in reception all day. The staff bent over backwards to help in any way they could - I would highly recommend a stay here.
This was a terrible experience. Their website misleads you to think it is really nice and close to everything. I booked a room for a romantic getaway and wow, it was terribly embarassing to bring my wife there. The cable didn't work, the room stunk, they had no room service, the outside was digusting. People live there and are really loud along with the huge garbage truck that came in the middle of the night waking us up. Needless to say, we didn't spend anytime there and the romantic mood was gone. NOT worth the $200 they make you pay for the room. DON'T GO THERE.
I do have to give them credit for their customer service though, I complained and got half off the room.
